  1. I second that! SSV pattern designers are very generous with their talents and will keep the rest of us in sawdust for quite some time! So many patterns, so little time! Thank you designers! You certainly keep raising the bar!
  2. Steve Good has a number of really great Business Card Holders. Here are the ones I found on his site. He might have more, though. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2 ... stand.html http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2 ... stand.html http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2 ... older.html http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2 ... stand.html
  3. That turned out great! I'm glad you were able to find the pattern. Its a great design for a great cause. Nicely done.
  4. Great avatar! Those clowns are just creepy! I don't think I'll sleep well tonight!

That turned out great! You did a nice job on both of them. I especially like the delicate outlined version. Nicely done!
  6. That turned out great! I really like those designs. I'll have to buy his book and check it out. You did a fabulous job on it!
  7. That turned out really sharp. I've always liked those collapsable baskets. I've been meaning to try it for awile now. Yours turned out great. Nicely done. You should set up a User Gallery to put all your pix in (if you haven't already). You can find a [tut]tutorial on how to do that here.[/tut] Good job.
  8. Too funny...keep 'em comin'. I'm really enjoying this thread.
  9. I believe newstand price over here is either 6.99 or 7.99. Believe it or not, I still buy my mags off the newstand, which is completely stupid because it costs me a fortune. I usually find it easier to sneak in $8 into a monthly budget than to fork over $30 for a subscription. I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a subscription. Much easier and cheaper in the long run.
  10. Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Holiday 2005 issue #21. You can find a pic of the cover here. I think that is the issue you were thinking of.
  11. The Village Square monthly newsletter has been sent out this morning. I also posted it in the archives for those of you who missed it. There's a great article by Dale (Firedkm) on different styles of puzzle cutting. Plus website news, pattern of the month, project of the month, tips and more! Be sure to sign up for the newsletter if you haven't already and have it delivered to your email inbox at the beginning of each month!
  12. Oil based urethane will create that yellowing effect. You're best off using a polycrylic which is acrylic based. Its much more expensive, but it won't yellow your projects. I'm not sure how they stack up for outdoor use, though. But I do use it on some of my indoor projects and it works great. I hope this helps.
  13. Halloween is just around the corner. This is my favorite holiday of the year. So lets throw out a little challenge. So brush those cobwebs from your saw and start making some sawdust. Show off a spooky cutting, devilish scrolling decor, or a ghoulish scroll saw pattern and post a picture in this thread. Don't dig into the past for pictures. Dig deeper...6 feet deeper, and create something brand new and unique to add to your Halloween decor this year. Have fun, get creative, and get spoooooky! While we're at it, lets have a Halloween Avatar Costume Parade! You can get a little crazy with GIMP and give your avatar a Halloween Costume, or replace your avatar with a spooky image! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Lets have fun!
  14. Hi Roger. I checked out your website. You have a lot of wonderful cuttings in there. You do a great job. You should put a link to your website in your signature (click User Control Panel in the tan box at the top of the screen, then choose Profile Tab, then Edit Signature). That way others can find it easily. I even saw a few patterns that I recognized from SSV. Nicely done! Anyway, welcome aboard. We're glad you found us. Jump on in and have some fun!
  15. Hi Cynthia. Welcome to the Village. We're glad you found us. There's certainly lots of stuff to look at. Feel free to ask questions. Everybody very friendly and helpful. It's amazing how much stuff you can accomplish with such a simple tool. I can't wait to see your first project. Anyway, welcome aboard. Jump on in and have some fun!
  16. Welcome back Indi! I'm glad to hear you had a good time with your first craft show. Hopefully you turned enough profit to keep you in blades and patterns! I could only imagine the thrill of seeing others ooh and ahh over your work. Especially when they're willing to crack the wallet open and purchase one of your items. We'd love to see some pix. Anyway, welcome back. Jump on in and have some fun!
  17. See if this works for ya. Great cutting, BTW.
  18. I was reading in this thread that some of the scrolling magazines are hard to come by for our UK friends. So I thought I'd throw this out. If anybody wants me to mail the current issue of either Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts or Creative Woodworking & Crafts to you, let me know. I'll only do this for current issues on the newsstands and while my local bookstores have them in stock. It'll be regular newsstand price plus international shipping (It would be on the "slow boat" to keep costs down). But I'm guessing that you can get an issue for $10-12 delivered to you. Not super cheap, but probably cheaper than you can get them by international subscription. If you're interested, PM me and I'll figure out what it really costs and we can work out the details.
  19. If you use them only for yourself, you're fine. Its considered fair use if you make one copy for yourself. You only run into trouble if you distribute the pattern, or sell the product you made from that pattern. There's a really good copyright article in the Scroll Saw Wiki. It covers the basics regarding copyrights. Its a quick read, but very informative.
  20. If you have provable permission from the artist, you can certainly use it. If the lawyers come knocking, you should be able to prove that you have permission to use their work. I'd definitely get something in writing from an artist before using their work, though. Even if its just an email. We don't require proof to post here at SSV. But if its recognizable art, I would put some sort of disclaimer such as "Based on original photo by ________. Used by permission." That way folks won't call you out for copyright infringement. I think some of Christina's Pinup patterns are based on an artist she wrote and got permission from. Perhaps she can chime in on what she has done to protect herself.
  21. Ooo....that's really pretty. I really like that design. Where did you buy it? Your daughter's going to love it. Nicely done!
  22. You can try Creative Woodworks and Crafts magazine too. They're US based too, but they have a number of other magazines too. Maybe they're large enough where they may have decent international rates. Don't know though. Might be worth a look.
  23. Sounds like you've been busy! I can't wait to see the chandelier. That should be a neat project. Hopefully the Inkscape class will help you with your designing process too.
  24. Thanks for asking. Dale's right, though. Even though a name may not be on the pattern, they still are copyrighted by the designer and publishers of the books and magazines. We have a policy for only allowing the pattern designers themselves to post their own patterns. And the patterns posted may not come from other copyrighted or trademarked material. This way we can avoid any legal problems. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking first. That is much appreciated.
  25. LOL...if he can only put together a 3 piece puzzle, I don't think college would be the best place for him... He's not even 3, yet. But I'll tell you what, he knows more about cars than I do! He can look at a car and tell me who made it. I took him to a classic car show a couple weeks ago. He kept looking for Toyotas and Mitsubishis. I had to break it to him that he wouldn't find any of those cars here. But he was still excited to see Fords, Chevys, and Corvettes.
