  5. I have both the harbor freight and an older Dewalt 733 Type 1. While the Harbor Freight planer will generally do the job if you push it it will break. For light use it will do the job. The blades are so - so for replacing however for light use it will do for those on a budget. The Dewalt 733 is an older version of the current Dewalt 734 and is a workhorse. Be aware that it will cost to keep the blades sharp and up to spec. Both planers will be accurate and will take some getting used to. Both can cause snipe and it can be controlled. My main issue is the chip collection. I work with my planer in my garage so I need to keep it relatively chip free. DW

  12. I made this bowl from a glue up that I made using leftover pieces in my shop. Pine, Purple Heart and Baltic Birch Ply. The bowl is 10" x 8" x 3". It was sealed with Tung Oil and then top coated with semi gloss lacquer. The pattern was made from this website - http://www.scrollmania.com/polydraw.html DW
  13. Ike that is a nice haul. There is a lot you can make from wood that old and size. Glue a couple of sections together to make a board 9 inches wide plane it smooth and make a bowl or cut 5 sections and make a small chest of drawers. The possibilities are endless. DW

  23. I routinely seal my works with a hardening oil like Tung Oil. Once that has been applied the wood grain is sealed and the marker will not bleed, UNLESS you put your mark on and then apply shellac over top. The reason being is shellac uses denatured alcohol as a solvent which coincidentally so does a sharpie so whala... instant bleeding of the once crisp makers mark that you just put on.. By the way rubbing alcohol will also take off marker. So I do one of two things I seal my wood with tung oil put my makers mark on and then top coat it with lacquer OR seal with tung oil put the shellac on and THEN put my makers mark on it. DW
