  9. Oak has tannin in the dark striations of the grain, when you heat it such as cutting it with a slightly duller blade the tannin will come to the surface. This is especially true as the wood has higher moisture content. Notice that it only happened close to the cut and only at the dark striations of the grain. Sharp blades, use blue tape / packing tape for the lube properties and you should not have the problem. DW

  20. That would depend upon if the watch was going to be worn either on a chain like a pocket watch or on your wrist or from a necklace like a pendant or even be large enough to put on the wall. Steve Good has some patterns you might want to look at : http://www.stevedgood.com/pocketwatch.pdf Essentially one just needs a hole drilled partially through the piece to hold the watch mechanism and the rest is whatever you can design. Do a Google search and you will find great ideas. DW
