Blue painters tape on the top normally... only when the wood tends to splinter do I put it on both sides. DW

Dick that elk is great. I would not be surprised if it fetched a good price and I know that who ever gets this will really love it. I have cut that cross with a slight modification... I shrank it to 3 3/4 inches tall and put a loop on top .. I cut it for a Minister friend of mine.. he loves it. As usual Kevin great work. Thanks for sharing these with us. DW

Dick wood like that generally has one or two sources of the color. Either the tree hit with its roots a rich cobalt area or more likely is it got infested with insects that drilled holes in it and caused the discoloration. Spalted Maple, Blue Pine, and several other species can have this type of discoloration. Keep looking you will find another.. if you found one in the area there is bound to be more. DW
