  11. This is a Sheila Landry pattern at about 3/4 size due to the wood I used. Cut from 1/2 inch bamboo that was 3 1/4 inches wide ( the pattern calls out a 4 inch board... did not want to do a glue up ) Finished with Tung OIl. DW

  16. Sully have you looked at Ereplacementparts.com and actually checked what the price of the parts for the planer would be? If you have the aptitude and the tools you might wish to go that route before purchasing a new planer. Porter Cable is ok however the company was recently added to the Black and Decker family of companies so it is not what it once was, much like the type 1 and type 2 Dewalt 788 scroll saws where the type 1 was built by the US and the Type 2 was built overseas to the lowest bidder. If you do decide to get a new one the Porter Cable would definitely do the job. DW
  17. Travis Scroll Saw Woodworking and Craft magazine did a comparison piece on saws a little while back.... Issue 40 back in 2010 they did a pretty good review of the majors from the some of the least expensive to the more expensive. DW
  18. Mike those are really really cute. She is going to love those. Thanks for sharing them with us. DW
  19. Very nicely done Danny. If you think that one is challenging you need to try a Charlie Dearing pattern Great job on this btw. Thanks for sharing it with us. DW
  20. Great work on that Mike. Charles's patterns are seldom for the faint of heart or of poor motor control. I really like that. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW

  23. Danny sure you can. It really is about the sanding. I make the bowl and sit in my shop and watch a movie while I sand before I know it the bowl has been sanded and is ready for the finish. I seal my projects generally with a 60/40 tung oil to mineral spirits mix give it an hour then wipe it down good and let it sit overnight. Then wipe once more before starting to put on the finish. Generally I use shellac as it is easy and the solvent is denatured alcohol and not something extremely flammable like lacquer thinner. Multiple light coats do the trick. Either spray it on or brush it on both should be light coats. I have a piece of worn 440 I use between coats to knock the roughness you sometimes get between coats. Above all have fun! DW
  24. It happens. I know... you know how to spell but your hands and fingers sometimes get it wrong. Keep up the great work Kevin. DW
  25. Kevin you have been working hard to get to this, congratulations. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
