I use reverse tooth blades, a few teeth point up to reduce splintering on the bootm of the cut. I use flying dutchman blades almost for everything, and the most used sizes for me are # 5 & # 7. but still keep a few other sizes as well. get ahold of Mike here - www.mikesworkshop.com/blades. I also have some olsen blades but prefer the way the flying dutchman blades cut.

myself I prefer flat blades. I've used spirals but just don't like them, I fel I have more control with the flat blades.

Hi Tim. welcome to the village. There are lots of great people here to help you out. if you have questions just ask. congrats on your "new" saw. there are a few pen turners here as well. one way to learn the saw is just to make sawdust, lots of it.

Here is the second of my intarsias. A Beaver this was made for the guy (business) I buy my wood from. It was made from a picture I took of his sign. woods used are - walnut, elm, box elder, curly maple, aspen, wenge, and poplar. They always treat me very well when I go to buy wood. I usually walk out with more than what I paid for. besides selling wood(lumber) its a custom mill/trim shop. So I thought I would make them something in return.
