Wayne, unless you make significant changes to the pattern design itself, you can not lay claim to the pattern. Making it into a night light doesn't change the pattern, it's just a different way of displaying it. I am not a lawyer, but, this is what I got for an answer from a lawyer when I inquired about the same issue. Len

Dave, this piece looks great, the only thing I would do differently, is I'd center it on the piece of wood. You're going to be quite the pattern maker, seeing as how this one is your first. Personally, I don't think it could be improved upon. Len

If I can't tell by eyeing the blade, I drag the blade over my thumb nail to find the direction of the cut. Len

I'm fortunate that my drill press will hold all size of bits, even the miniture size. I do own a mini dremel chuck though, it was gift my wife gave me years ago. I've never used it, it's just sitting on the shelf. Len
