1. Great cut...The paint job is right on!
2. That's great. I have a piece of curly claro walnut I bought a while back to make a set of pistol grips with. This stuff is hard as granite. I might give the ring idea a shot.
3. Now that's Kool! Would make some great projects.
4. Those are great. I like the idea of using thicker woods for scrollen.
5. Great work. Love the contours on the antlers...Realistic.
6. Excellent work!!! Great composition and fretwork.
7. I started out trying my hand at some segmentation. After completing the bass, it layed on my desk for two weeks. I finally went into the scrap pile and ended up with this. I'm not quite sure what to call it...Pop out, a 3D I have no clue :lol It gave me a good laugh anyway.
8. Fantastic work!!! That is definitely a show piece.
9. That's Kool But you broke the cardinal rule of tool buying Never admit you bought it! "You won it in a raffle."
10. Hi Wombatie: Another area to check is the motor brushes. Depending on the age and use of the machine one or both could have worn. Check out this link about the Dewalt. As Grampa mentioned, there are a few Dewalt owners here that can point you in the right direction. http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/DewltTuneUp.htm
11. Hi Lady: Yep...I was happy with these pieces. Now I have to come up with some ideas. I have a few on the burner. The tall ship you did was excellent. The trick is finding a theme that fits the wood. I'll study the wood again and wait for a revelation
12. Great work. That lettering came out excellent.
13. Good job. You are on your way!
14. I'm in the same boat. What doesn't get sold ends up on my walls. I usually pack any extras in a cardboard box under the bed (not much room in our apt.). My wife is always remarking about diminishing wall space
15. Hi All: I figured that would get your attention After checking the recent post concerning "wood suppliers" I went to the "Handsome Woodman" to check out their selections. I chose three pieces that looked good for either scrollen or burning. A lot of times what you see advertised is not always what you get I received my order today and I was blown away The pieces were exactly as advertised. The grain and color was perfect The wood comes planed on both sides and will need only some light sanding for preperation for burning. The prices are great and the shipping costs were marginal considering it was shipped from Washington state to Connecticut. I would suggest checking them out. http://www.thehandsomewoodman.com/index.htm
16. Hi: I've been using Elmers Carpenters Glue. Sets quick and holds with no problems. You can find it in most Wal-Marts and craft stores.
17. Welcome Aboard! Nice to have another sailor here. I was assigned to the USS Barney-DDG6 out of Norfolk (DESRON II) a few years back (BT2). You'll enjoy it here. Lotta great folks and plenty of info. "Haze Gray and Underway"
18. I ran into that problem...I tried using the FD new 2/0 spirals and broke them both trying to set them up. I ended up straightening an Olson spiral to finish the cut. They (olson & fd) have straight end spirals. Live and learn.
19. Nice work...They all look great.
20. That's Kool! My daughter just got an akita. Named him bear.
21. Great cuts! I like the black and the blue backs. Just started painting my backs myself...I like it better that the felt backs.
22. Working on this pattern...From an 1800's ink drawing. Lotta drilling! I might start this one tommorow.
23. Hi Ugsduck: That came out great. The fit is tight, the colors are nice...No negatives I can see.
24. Had a shop for about a year selling my woodburnings...Made a whopping $15.00 dollars. I followed the suggested procedures for selling. Created a blog, constantly on the Etsy forums and renewed my listings weekly (to name a few). I found I had more sales from word of mouth than anything else. As mentioned...There are a lot of items for sale there. If you have something unique to offer you can make some money. Like Travis mentioned, it can't hurt to try. Like any other business it takes time and a lot of effort to get it going. If you are willing to spend 3-4 hours a day promoting your shop you can succeed. I've seen some of the top Etsy sellers on QVC as well as shows like Martha Stewart. I'm quite sure that Etsy has provided some financial backing for this type of exposure ;)There are also local area groups within Etsy you can join to promote your items. Some of them even set up local craft fairs where you can go to sell your items (for a fee). Although the site specifies "handcrafted items" there are a lot of resellers on that site. They buy the items overseas make a few modifications and resell them as "handmade." This presents a problem for those that are actually trying to get a fair price for their items that are actually handmade. Hard to compete with someone who buys in bulk and sells cheap.
25. Great piece. She will love it. I think I will try out some spirals on my next one.
