    hello

Welcome Tommy, You will find alot of great help and advice here in the village. I can't wait to see some of your work in the future. Barry
  3. I had seen a fretwork clock years ago and fell in love with it. I've always wanted to work with wood but space has been limited. I've made smaller useful pieces like cradles and such but always remembered that clock. Three years ago I bought my first scrollsaw, a cheapo from Harbor Freight but I seemed to be able to make it sing. I eventually upgraded to a 21" craftsman. This year I will be upgrading to a DeWalt. Purchased a Midi Lathe 1 1/2 years ago but have not have near enough chance to work with it as much as I would like. There is something very zen like happening once I begin working. Needless to say, I'm hooked. Barry
  4. Great ob on that Vector. I really love that coin. Gonna have to try that some day. Barry
  5. I made this for my stepdaughter and her new husband as a wedding gift. Yes, it's taken me a while to get this posted but here it is anyway. The heart is made form 1/4" Walnut Ply and the backer from 1/8" Maple Ply. I resized it to about 20 inches square. Next time I will do it a little smaller as it was rough in spots even with a 21" scrollsaw. Thanks to Sue Mey for an awesome pattern and adding the custom lettering. Barry
  6. Awesome job Ron. One of my stepdaughters just joined the marines. She survived the Crucible and is now off to MCT in Jacksonville, NC. I got to see her twice during the holidays. This is something I've got to make for her. She would love it. The work you did on that is terrific. What blades did you use to cut it, and where did you get the pattern? Barry
  7. Very cool idea. Love the cutting and the depth. Barry
  8. Those are really cute Deb. Your pattern or someone else's? Would love to get a copy of it if it's yours. Barry
  9. The album looks great JD. Some really nice pieces in there. Barry
  10. Very nice job on that. Really like the way the woodgrain works with the cutting design. Barry
  11. Congratulations Mike, I just finished checking out that site and you're right. There are some fantastic artists on that site. I'm glad to see that site owner has such good taste in artists. Your work is terrific and deserves the honor. Congrats again. Barry
  12. This was cut and given as a Christmas gift this year. Tori was all of about 8 minutes old in the photo. Barry
  13. Cut this one for my girlfriend a short while back. She always wanted a collie. Just don't think this is what she had in mind.. Barry
  14. I cut all four of these sets to give away as gifts this Christmas. My blades weren't up to the task of stack cutting these so each one had to be cut individually. Made from 1/4" Poplar and finished with spray shellac. Patterns by Sue Mey.
  15. I know how good a feeling it is to finally get back to the saw after a long hiatus. Great job on all the projects. Can't wait to see more work. Barry
  16. Welcome to the village Jerry. You're going to have a great time with your new hobby. You will find hundreds of ideas here as well as many tips and tricks to help you as you progress. I can't wait to see some of your work. Barry
  17. Great job on that Bruce. Definitely a challenge but a terrific end result. Thanks for showing us. Barry
  18. I would have to go with Poplar. It's readily available in 1/4 and 1/2 inch thickness, relatively inexpensive, and looks great when finished or painted. Of course any wood I can get my hands on is my favorite at that moment. Barry
  19. I enjoy mainly portrait cutting, the more detailed the better. I also enjoy any kind of fretwork and hope to build one of the museum quality clocks from Wildwood designs this year. Also want to try my hand at a wooden gear clock and some puzzles. Barry
  20. Hi Philip, Where in South Central PA are you? I'm in Adams County just 15 minutes from Gettysburg. If you're nearby, would love to get together and talk scrolling and stuff. It's always good to find other local area scrollers. Welcome to the site. This is by far one of the best scrolling sites on the web, ok, at least for me anyway. Barry
  21. Ok, love the Hello Kitty sander case Travis...LOL Santa brought me a nice shiny new 6" bench grinder. Actually it was Mrs. Clause and since she couldn't lift it at Home Depot, I had to carry it out to the sleigh. Barry
  22. Wow! Happy Birthday SSV! I can't believe how the place has grown in just one year. I'm looking forward to seeing even more growth and community in 2010 and of course hope to be contributing even more. I just want to congratulate Travis and the rest of the staff for making this place as good as it is. From the awesome classes on pattern making, to the quality of the interactions between members, we have a great staff to thank for that, so thanks all. Barry
  23. Sent my report in as soon as I saw the link on Facebook you posted. I hope that all of these reports going to E-bay will end with a positive result for you. Stealing the work of others really ticks me off. Wish there was more I could do. Barry
  24. Nice toy Travis. Congrats on the new purchase. Barry
  25. I've got a homebuilt stand for my scrollsaw made from 2x4's and 3/4" plywood. Nothing fancy but it works. Building another such stand for my lathe. Then I have an old teacher's desk from a school that I have a computer on for pattern making and such. I use saw horses and plywood for most other shop activities as I'm working in a very limited space. Barry
