  1. Well, I couldn't get a pattern made for the 1936 Chevy Truck so I made up the bottom part and the clock to the picture in inkscape and cut away.. so yeah I kind of had a pattern but not really, LOL .. Kinda just cutting and working along the design as I went, LOL This came out well enough I had another order request for a Dodge truck.. so I did that one the same way.. I think if I do this any more I'll at least make the photo black and white to save on printer ink, LOL Cut these both out of Cherry using a #3 Pegas MG blade and some of the veining cuts was gone over with a FD New Spiral 2/0 blade.. That Cherry on the old Chevy I've had this piece for at least 3 years.. It had some real dark streaks in the grain and was much darker in the center of the board.. I never used it because it just never really "looked" like cherry even though it is.. I suspect it had some metal in it around that area maybe that made it darker stained.. as it had a hint of blue hue to it.. I never found any metal with the planer.. Anyway I think it fits the old 36' truck well I will say... working with a pattern is much easier, LOL.. but this was a fun challenge to see if I could do it this way.. and just made the projects that much more interesting to make..
  2. Now that.. I see working quite well.. I actually have a few of those blowers.. Used to use them for venting my spray paint booth when I was doing autobody repair.. didn't work well for that.. paint never would land on the car.. too much air flow, LOL
  3. Great looking clock, like the wood choice as well as the clock choice.. they look good together.. I've done the wrong hole size a few times in the beginning of my clock making.. and actually still have to double check myself on certain sizes that I don't make on a regular basis... At least you was able to figure out a way to make it work.. I think I threw mine out, LOL
  4. Most parts from Seyco.com will work on the newer saws.. I'm not certain what parts you need so I cannot verify fitment.. I just completely rebuilt my entire saw and had two parts that wouldn't fit the newer style saws.. I don't know what kind of warrantee these come with but I would first contact General International.. All else fails get in touch with Ray at seyco..
  5. For me it says receive by Nov. 6th most times it's before the estimated date.. Have you read any of the reviews on this? I read several that says the rubber table nubs leave marks on your projects.. They claim it works well with the dust but leaves black marks on the bottom side.. Might be okay for some items I make but not everything has a backer etc.. so it wouldn't work with some of the things I make.. I don't have amazon prime.. so I wait either place I buy it.. I sell on Amazon.. but I'm not much of a shopper on there.. I don't like the way they cater to the shopper and give very little if any support to the seller.. They treat employees really crappy too.. I prefer not to do any more business with them than I have to.. As a seller that prime can cost you as they take a % of your income if the item is late.. even if you as the seller got it in the mail right away.. if the delivery driver is late.. it's you as a sellers fault and for every day late they take a%.. and not small % either.. after about 3 days late you just gave the item away.. and owe them money on top of that.. as a seller I have no control over the item once it leaves my hands it's shippers fault.. yet the punish the seller.. Go figure.. anyway this is getting off topic.. Let's just say I don't like Amazon for anything more than I have to,
  6. $112 and free shipping on ebay
  7. That's good to know.. I usually shop around by model number to see who has the best deal.. I typically find things cheaper yet on ebay.. but I haven't searched yet.. as i was just posting here to see if they are worth having.. Thanks for the heads up on being cheaper on amazon though..
  8. Grizzly website.. They have some of the other brands and sizes on sale too but not all of them are.. Also sign up for email list and get an extra 5% off.. https://www.grizzly.com/products/Shop-Fox-Downdraft-Table-15-x-25-/W1734A
  9. Yeah me too.. they are on sale.. and this is sort of what sparked my interest in posting about the downdraft systems.. I was kinda wondering how well they work as opposed to the homemade units.. Someone replied earlier about it being " okay ".. so.. are they worth the cost? One could be built relatively cheap.. but is it going to be as effective as a purchased unit.. guess that would depend on how much effort you put into the design... I may still buy one.. going to try to find some reviews etc on them...
  10. Are you talking about this topic?
  11. Thank you for your thoughts... probably just saved me a lot of hours in designing one myself only to be disappointed.. Why I had to post and ask you pros.. LOL
  12. This is my ideal set up... and maybe something I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy.. I know quality tools are worth every penny paid out for them... if you use them the way I do... just hard to spend that money.. You know I spent several years playing around with low to entry level scroll saws.. and other lower end tools.. until you really put out that money for some quality tooling you really don't know what you're missing.. This Bosch sander is the nicest one I've owned.. probably great for the weekend worrier.. but putting several hours a week on it and seeing the dust left behind after a 3-4 hour sanding session... your hands and arms vibrating a few hours after using it still shows that this sander probably isn't best suited for a commercial type of work I throw at it every week.. Probably just need to bite the bullet and buy a quality sander.. LOL
  13. This is the sander I have.. notice the slotted hole at the base of the sander.. on the other side there is another one like it.. the sander spews dust out that spot on the other side.. a little on this visible side too.. it still getting dust in the canister as well so if it is plugged it's not completely plugged. So what I gather from your statement is.. the downdraft table isn't going to suction that dust blowing out the side of the sander... only the dust that would drop down onto the downdraft tabletop? Like I said.. I never had much problem with dust like I have right now with these type sanders.. which was why I bought the same sander when the other one gave out.. I've tried a lot of different sanders over the last 15 years.. about 10 years ago I bought the first Bosch.. put two sets o motor brushes in it in those 10 years.. Like I said previously.. I'm going to try to clean out the sander tomorrow and see.. maybe it got clogged partly up with caked up dust.. In some cases.. ( sanding ornaments ) having a vacuum strong enough to hold those small light weight ornaments down while trying to sand them and be a dust collection would be kinda nice, LOL But sounds like suction from these is minimal..
  14. I am also thinking that too.. I think tomorrow I'll take and blow it out good with the air hose and see if it helps.. Maybe even take it apart and see if I can break it worst.. then maybe a better excuse for a festool sander and vac,
  15. Probably my problem is it may be plugged up... I've never had a issue with my old Bosch RO sander.. I almost when with the DeWalt when getting a new one.. but since they still made the exact same one I had and I used it a lot... held up well for what I throw at it from a commercial type use.. I ended up buying another just like it. Maybe I was lucky with the first one or this one is just a fluke.. Works good still.. just started spewing dust a couple weeks ago though.. I hate the fine sanding dust and the old one did real well with collecting the dust in the canister..
  16. Neat set up... I've thought on and off for a few years now about building one of these.. I like how it folds up out of the way..
  17. I have 3 different vacuums and dust deputies.. mostly just hooked to scroll saws for collection at them.. Then have a HF dust collection system for the CNC/ Bandsaw/ and Planner.. It all has helped a ton.. Never had much dust from my Bosch RO sanders until just recently so I took the vac off one of the scroll saws and hooked it to my RO sander.. was still blowing some dust through the side of the sander instead of sucking up into the vac.. Thinking maybe I have a plugged up area inside the sander so the air flow is backing up and out the one side vent.. Gong to try blowing it out with the air hose tomorrow and see what that does.
  18. I've found a lot of caked up dust as well in my old sander when I'd take it apart to replace the motor brushes.. Done that twice and the last time the motor arbor had some pretty good grooves in it.. I tried to clean it up good but the power was never the same after replacing them the last time so I bought a refurbished one just like it.. has worked well up until this bad dust leaking out the side of it that has gotten pretty bad the last couple weeks. Maybe I just need to blow it all out with the air hose..
  19. Welcome to the village, I'm glad you chimed in... I'll have to look at the Mirka sander.. never heard of that brand before.. As for masking up... I do not enter the shop without a mask.. wear one the entire time I'm in the shop even if I'm not really doing anything to create a dust cloud.. Just second nature to me...
  20. I kind of figured those downdraft tables probably loose suction outside of the area where the hose is attached.. It'd be pretty tricky to get a solid even suction throughout the entire area.. Thanks for the thoughts and the experiment idea.. I've kinda figured that'd be how it would work out..
  21. Interesting you say this... what kind of sander do you run? I ask because my sander ( Bosch ) came with a fitting to hook up a vac to it instead of using the dust canister.. However.. I hooked up the vac yesterday and while it did help some from what I was getting with the dust can.. my shop was still getting a fair amount of dust.. I suspect I have a blown seal or something in the sander.. My old Bosch was awesome for collecting the dust in the canister.. this new one seeped a little but no bad.. but it's getting bad.. The whole point of me buying the Bosch again was I was very happy with performance and dust collection.. Like I said.. I bought a cheap Harbor Freight sander and had to quit using it like the first day because not much of the dust was getting collected in the canister, so I ordered a new / refurbished Bosch just like the one I had.. Another annoyance for me was the dang Vac hose was always in my way.. which is why I wondered about the downdraft table.. Very tempted to take both my old and my new sander apart and maybe put the new sander motor in the old sanders body.. LOL Since I'm in production mode most of the time I do things in batches.. There are days that I might spend 4 hours pre-sanding boards and finish sanding projects.. The other half of the day is usually cleaning up the sawdust off everything, LOL didn't used to have to do that.. I'm looking at putting heat un my shop.. and I can't have all this fine dust floating about and causing issues.. not to mention fire hazards.. If a downdraft box works well I may go that route.. Not at a point where I can justify a Festool sander and vac just yet, LOL
  22. Anyone have / use one that can share how well it works etc.. The cause of most airborne dust in my shop and probably any shop is from sanding.. I have a Bosch R/O sander and it has a filtered dust canister... My first one did a great job of collecting that sanding dust.. But it wore out.. I bought a new / refurb. one last spring and it did seep a little more dust that my other one did but was tolerable.. recently ( maybe the colder weather ) this thing is spewing dust out.. Before I bought the refurb.. I bought a HF model and that was was really bad too.. my refurb isn't quite that bad but I'm noticing a lot of dust settling and my air filtration filter needing cleaned way more often.. I'm wondering if a downdraft table would be the ticket.. It seems the dust is escaping the sanders through the vent holes in the side of the sander near the bottom by the sanding pad.. I haven't taken the thing apart to see if there is a broken seal or something.. I just know that I need to get this taken care of in some way... I've often wondered about the downdraft tables.. I've never seen much talk of them so who has one or used one? Any thoughts on them.. Thank you
  23. I'd buy another new Hawk again.. Typically my go to blade is a Pegas MG #3.. Mostly cut 5/8" material whether it's stack cutting several thin pieces of ply or hardwood.. My go to used to be the #5 but I find the #3 actually cuts faster and leaves a smoother edge.. Those PGT blades are nice blades too.. What I dislike about them is the smallest size they make is a #5 and they are kind of a big #5 compared to other brands and styles.. They are also kind on the pricey side.. Great blades though and last a long time.. Just not ideal blades for my type of projects..
  24. I'd buy another Hawk.. This time I'd go with the BM-220 since I already just purchased a BM-226 a couple years ago.. That said, someday I would like to try a Hegner.. hear a lot about them.. seen a few and had a chance to get a nice barely used 14" for $40 at a estate sale.. I should have got it.. but I was being my stubborn self and said I didn't need it because at the time I had three Hawks a EX. Dewalt and a Delta, LOL.. still have them all except the DeWalt.. Now that I have the newest Hawk dialed in and did some upgrades to my oldest Hawk.. Ultra has always works great for me.. but I rebuilt that EX- have about 25 hours on since the rebuild.. really don't even use it.. Been thinking I need to send it to someone that would use it..
  25. From what I read online.. there is a lot of love hate on those old round clamps for the Hawks... Some folks hate them while others love them.. I personally have no issue with them.. to me they are no different than any of the other saws that have the removable clamps.. I have both the old round style clamp saw and the Ultra square style and a brand new Hawk with new style.. I didn't get any extra clamps with the new saw which for me was a bit disappointing.. I do a lot of work with cutting with a flat blade and follow up with a spiral for veining... Having those extra loaded clamps make for a quick change out to a different style / size blade when needed.. I tend to use the old round clamp saw that's 27 years old or the Ultra Hawk more than I do for the new saw or the EX-21.. just more convenient to me for the pre-loaded blades.. I need to order some extra holders for that new Hawk and use it, LOL..
