  1. I'm thinking about getting a new printer as well.. so this topic I will be following.. I'd like to get away from inkjet printers which is what I've had for always, LOL Are there laser printers with the wide format? My current printer can print 11 x 17 papers which is nice for those larger patterns.
  2. Just my opinion... But to me it seems like this would work better with the suction hose on the opposite side of the saws blower tube. Or are you moving the blower tube up and out of the way? It's amazing how much better the Seyco system with only a lower suction collection and having a fan with furnace filter at table height sucking up the dust blown from the saws dust blower.. Plus... no suction noise on top of the table.. Quite frankly, I've found that the dust port provided on the Ex-21 with a shop vac gets more of the dust than the Seyco system does.. But the shop vac is also about 2x louder, LOL..
  3. I should have posted a link to the body filler spreaders.. I use these to spread the glue out evenly on the wax paper or plastic trash bag.. one spread out you just set the piece to be glued to the backer into the glue and then put it on the backer.. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-in-putty-spreaders-20-pc-69564.html
  4. Not sure if you was asking what type of glue or how to apply.. I won't go into glue types as everyone will have their favorite glue, car, boat etc... I use a plastic garbage sack.. but you can use wax paper etc.. Lay the bag / paper out on the workbench.. pour a appropriate amount of your favorite glue and I use a plastic body filler spreader to spread the glue out as evenly as you can.. Dip the back side ( this is important.. make sure you dip the right side you want to glue, I've messed this up more than once and dipped the front side ) into the glue and press it down so it gets glue on it good.. lift it up and stick it onto the backer.. Clamp or put weight on it however works best for your situation. Put the bag out somewhere so it can dry and you can peel off the glue or shake the bag and most the glue will peel off, then you can still use he bag for its normal purpose, lol
  5. That may be the case with my Seyco dust system.. The canister is plastic and yes the fine dust sticks to the sides of the canister.. Maybe I need to look for a glass jar for my canister when I build my system for the Hawk..
  6. They usually run a sale during the holidays ( when I bought mine a couple years ago ).. They also send out coupon codes.. I'll look and keep an eye out for the codes.. I usually just ignore them as I have no intentions of buying anything..
  7. I used to scroll in the house.. I would say if you have a vacuum sucking the majority of dust away.. that is a great way to take care of most of it.. I have a hanging dust filtration system in my shop while it helps quite a lot but I also find it to be not as efficient as my cheap old box fan with a 20" x 20" allergen type furnace filter on the back of it.. I'm able to place it the the side where the blower hose on the scroll saw blows the dust and the fan seems to get a good portion of that dust.. I think maybe the shop is too large and also the placement of the hanging unit is partly to blame for it not being quite as effective.. Don't get me wrong it helps.. but I think being able to put the fan right near the saw or sander would catch it better than letting it go way up to the ceiling and sometimes getting blown around by the filtration system if it happens to get on the front side of that thing.. Can take that furnace filter off the back of the fan and take it outside and tap it on something to clean it out.. I use the same filter for a long time.. every now and then I take the air hose from my compressor and blow it out backwards of coarse and it cleans up almost like new..
  8. Welcome to the village! Denny doesn't have the saws on his site, You just have to contact him to work out the details.. I don't think he stocks the saws.. they are drop shipped.. which I believe is the case for most every seller of them in the USA.. I could be wrong but I think that is how the US sales work.
  9. Looks a lot like my system, and the Vacuum in question is the is a Metro Vac 5000 I believe.. same as my system I have.. also same unit that Seyco uses for their scroll saw dust collection system.. My vac is much quieter than a shop vac.. BUT.. I'm quite doubtful that it's the 62db that seyco advertises it as.. maybe from 10 foot away.. LOL.. I bought the Seyco system back when I ordered parts to rebuild my Ex-21 this summer.. I've put about 30 hours on the saw since the rebuild.. so the vac has that many hours on it too.. and the dust can is about half full.. Think it's about a gallon sized can that come with the Seyco set up.. anyway.. I have a fair amount of dust escape the can and go to the vac bag.. I bought the little blue plastic cyclone last summer and also found one of these( new open box ) metro 5000 vacs on eBay for $30 shipped.. so I snagged it up.. I see them for $50 -100 quite often and from time to time $30 -40 for new open box ones.. lots of used ones on there too.. I'm going to be interested in how much vac power you get with having both upper and lower dust collection ports.. I am only running the lower (Seyco's designed system) collection at the moment on my EX-21. I bought the other parts tp build my own system but have yet found the time or energy to actually do it.. I feel the small vac might be underpowered for both upper and lower ports.. but I could be wrong.. as the dust is fine stuff and probably doesn't take a lot of suction to pick it up.. Don't get me wrong.. it's fairly powerful with a single port.. just not sure it'd be up to the task for two ports.. maybe with the right hose size and port openings.. the port with the Seyco nozzle its a oval shape and maybe if it were restricted some it's work well with two ports.. I really wish I had gone with my original plan to hook up a system like Rolfs and buy a Festool.. the price of the Festool isn't cheap but neither is having a system for each saw.. since I use 4 different saws.. Believe the Festool on the low setting is much quieter than these little Metro Vacs.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/METRO-VAC-N-GO-VM4B500-Portable-Vacuum-Cleaner-500W-Motor-4-5A/201713240295?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Edit to add: I should also state that the Seyco system does get about 98-99% of any dust that falls below the table.. however it get's 0% from above the table.. and there is still a fair amount of dust still landing in my lap from spinning the wood and nocking it off the top onto my lap.. LOL.. I can see that a dust collection above the table is important.. You wouldn't think there would be that much but I bet 30% of cutting dust is on top and 70% goes below.. so that is still a lot of dust escaping into the air, lap and wherever, LOL
  10. I suck at math.. but I come up with $0.33 per pattern.. When I bought my CD I figured I paid $0.18 per pattern.. I tried to talk Scott into putting together a "set" at a discounted price of Harvey's patterns.. Adds up to a large amount of money when you want a complete set.. but you pay full price.. Not expecting to pay pocket change per design.. but... if you want 400 of the designs at $3 each.. that's more than a chunk of pocket change, especially when you can buy a whole CD set like this at $80.. I've invested over $300 for the 113 puzzle designs I've purchased from Scott.. so your math is definitely off.. not saying mine is right either but $300 for 113 puzzles vrs $145 for 438 is a big difference
  11. It's from the Woodimals set, I couldn't tell you what book it's in because I bought the complete CD set.. I'm not sure if the Scrollsawer website store still offers these individual or not.. I bought the complete set of 450+ puzzle pattern CD set on sale a few years back during their holiday sale for like $80.. You might find the pattern by searching Woodimal patterns. The number for the specific pattern is Mermaid_ MD222D Edit: This is where I got my pattern, I don't see individual patterns anymore.. only cd's now it looks like. If you're into puzzles.. the CD is well worth the money.. even at $145 for the complete set. https://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=woodimal
  12. Had a request to make a early style ford bronco.. cut from Cherry with a #3 Pegas MG blade and veining done with a 2/0 FD spiral blade.. Cut with the BM-226 Hawk
  13. I would think if your only issue with the Excelsior is the table size... making a table could be done a lot cheaper than buying one or even buying a new saw.. Also paying for a Pegas table is a cheaper option than the new saw too.. I like the table tilt mechanism on the Excelsior way better than the Seyco's system. Also don't care for the Seyco table top being than magnetic thing on it.. But that is just me.. But that said some people just want a new toy.. I understand that.. I didn't need a new Hawk a couple years ago when I ordered a new one.. as I had two very nice ones already.. Most thought I should cancel out my order on it as they was having issues with a machine to make the Hawk and it was back ordered for 4 months.. I didn't care I didn't need it and I was willing to wait it out for the saw I had my heart set on buying.. I love the saw and glad I bought it and waited to take delivery of it.
  14. Well the issue isn't bearwood prices.. Its Pegas prices, I believe Pegas sets the price and the dealers have to sell at that price per the contract rules.. Shipping cost may differ from one seller to another.. or dealers may put a cut on their portion of the profit to pass the savings onto the buyer.. But at the end of the day Pegas set the price.. They are a bit of an upgrade from the King and Excelsior saws.. Bigger bearing in the pivot arm, blade clamps, and other upgrades to areas that was weak points that was issues with the tried and true Excalibur type saws.. So yes.. I would think a better made saw would be a bit more money. Not saying a Excelsior isn't a good saw.. just saying that Pegas is a upgrade to an already good saw.. and the price would / should reflect that.. I would think..
  15. Didn't think about you being in Canada, that's too bad.. Isn't BearWoods in Canada? for some reason I thought they was in Canada.. Probably still not any cheaper, just a thought.. Honestly these saws have the table just bolted to the frame.. seems like it'd be quite easy to make a larger one.. Not sure how strong plexiglass or some acrylic would be.. I sometimes wish my table was clear so I could see to put the blade in the lower clamp a little better.. LOL.. Though I'm sure it'd be scratched so much after a few days you still wouldn't see it, LOL Anyway i do recall the table being around $130ish US and they aren't all that light to ship..
  16. Pegas sells a table upgrade that will bolt right up to your saw provided you have the 21" model.. The table is the same size as the Seyco but it has no vacuum fitting or holes.. and it is coated with a tough epoxy coating.. both slick surface and very durable..
  17. Glad to hear he is okay and just busy..
  18. Thanks Denny, I forget there is such a thing as denatured alcohol.. I may try this.. I think it would dry much faster and maybe less smell than the Danish oil that I currently use.. Harvey is probably busy with custom orders.. I know I'm waiting on 6 new custom designs.. and I've ordered several the last few months.. I have more to order now again as well but I'm trying to not overload the system, LOL
  19. I've thought about trying the alcohol and shellac.. what kind of alcohol do you use? It looks great even though you drank 50% alcohol when dipping it in the shellac.. You sure after drinking it that it actually got dipped in the shellac? No seriously what is used like rubbing alcohol? I'd like to try this sometime..
  20. Thank you Dave, I'm surprised they made it that fast as the mail has been on the slow side much of this year..
  21. Well, about that time to order some more inserts.. I contact my supplier this morning and was discussing a deal and options etc.. I'm kind of hyped because they brought back the Metal case in the 50mm ( 2" ) size.. I ordered a few of them in Gold with Arabic and Roman numbers.. They are also going to send me several samples.. looks like maybe several sizes from the 2" - 3-1/2 inch maybe... Anyway for the longest time you couldn't get 2" inserts in a metal case.. they only had plastic case ones.. The 2" that I ordered was also with the good PC21 movement ( motor ) which is what I use in all the other clocks.. so they should be good quality.. The samples they are sending I'm pretty sure are plastic clocks with China movements.. Anyway.. I ordered several plastic case clocks as I do use those in certain situations as the metal ones with the compression fit.. they can be a bear to get inserted into the hole.. especially on delicate pieces.. so I'll sometimes use the plastic insert for those.. I ordered enough of the plastic and metal on the 37mm ( 1-7/16 ) that I'll probably offer both on my website.. as well as the 50mm if anyone takes up clock making.. and has a interest in some quality clocks.. LOL To my knowledge nobody is selling the 50mm metal case clocks in the USA.. If I'm wrong on that correct me.. I haven't researched that to be 100% correct.. I know they aren't on any of the main suppliers sites that I've used in the past..
  22. I always just removed the broke fitting and move to the next good one.. and soaked in hot water for a few minutes to warm it up.. Then slip it on.. Didi that about 5 times on the old Dewalt I had.. It was getting a bit short.. I think had it broke again I'd have had to buy a new one.. The saw was 12 years old when I sold it... I think these hoses are a bit long on a new saw and I found it annoying to loop it up and around.. I think this might be the cause of them breaking.. These have enough power to no need to be placed right next to the blade.. I always found myself bumping it or moving it out of my way a lot when it was longer.. shorten up after taking so many links out of it the first few years.. the last several years it was short and always out of the way.. I never had to mess with it.. and it never broke again either for about the last 6-8 years.. broke it about once or twice a year at first though...
  23. These was made from 5/8" Cherry..
  24. I haven't been in touch with them for quite a long time now, but I haven't really tried. Reading on FB groups etc.. it seems as if they've improved customer service greatly... but I can't vouch on that for sure. as I'm just going off of reading other peoples postings.. I hope they really have. They make a great saw.. made in the USA is a bonus too. for me anyway.
  25. The Hawk saws have this too.. Believe it's just a bolt with a rubber cap on the end though.. and could just remove the bolt.. My older saw arm raises way way up.. broke a blade once and the arm come up and busted my magnifier light bulb, LOL The Ultra and the newest saw arms don't really go up all that high.. I've thought about removing the bolt and drilling a hole below it and putting the bolt back in the lower hole.. as they don't go up nearly as high as that old saw does.. makes the old saw more fun to use on some bigger projects.. funny thing is.. the old saw is the smaller one so I'm limited on those big projects anyway with only the 20" throat instead of the 26" on the others..
