I created this pattern last fall and was finally able to cut it. this is a half inch board of Blue Bass, my first time using it. It cuts easy but keeps it shape well without splintering or anything like that. I will definitely use it again. I think it turned out awesome, but that might just be me. I have included a copy of my original pattern

You did a great job cutting this, it turned out great.

I have a project that has two pieces that will be glued together. Do I need to glue before I oil it or could I tape the parts that are going to be glued and then rub the oil on? How do you do it?

DW, They do certainly take a bit of time compared to some other patterns I have done. I will generally redo aspects of the face 6 times or more before I am satisfied with them. The girls eye on the left side of the pattern was particularly difficult.

Although this is a pattern I am placing it in Bragging Rights because it was a requested pattern and not something I made to be used by just anyone. This was done for Maine Scroller and it worked out so well I just had to brag

This puzzle was traced off of a very cheap puzzle my mother in law has, I blew it up 120% and cut it out of 1/2 inch grey elm, I finished it with lemon oil and a couple of coats of poly. I just gave to my mother for Easter.

That's an awesome job, very clean cuts. just outstanding.

The tree is 1/4 in Baltic birch painted black with sumi ink then 3 coats of poly. the back drop is Quilting fabric from my wives stash, attached to 1/8 in MDF cut to fit the shadow box. The tree is elevated with four 1/4 in cubes. it took me a while to finish this one up but it looks pretty good.

The frame is actually my mothers, she gave it to me to use for my works, I thought it only appropriate that I give it back to her with something in it.

I finally finished this portrait. It was a Christmas present to my mother, but the cold weather cut in shortly before the 25th and has only recently abated enough to get back to work. It was quite a long and cold winter but I am back at it now. Expect to see more submissions in the near future.

I was at the hardware store today and there was a Wen belt disc sander on sale for $50. I wasn't sure about it because I was unfamiliar with the brand. The floor model seemed solidly made and had nice features so I went ahead and bought it. When I got home I did some online research and it seams to have a lot of negative reviews. Has anyone ever bought one of these, know anything about it. It's still in the box and am seriously thinking about taking it back just on the reviews alone. Any info would be appreciated.

I don't have a drill press or anything like that so all of my holes are done with either a hand drill or a small pin vise for the really small ones. I use both hands and go very slowly. I have had very few problems, thankfully. you just have to be patient and very observant.

If you are asking if there would be any monetary value, I would say not much. You could take them to a half-price bookstore and they would give you a little something for them, otherwise most schools appreciate magazine donations for collage work etc. I personally have subscribed in the past but mostly read it at the library now. They have some fascinating articles. -
I use a respirator mask. I have asthma and it is essential that I use one. I think I could get away without it for baltic birch but I did some bloodwood without it when I first started and my lungs complained quickly and thats when I got the mask. Now I use it religiously.

I do use olson blades so that might be the problem. I would get a better saw if I had the money. I got this one for $75 off craigs list not knowing much about scrolling or what I could do with it. I ended up loving it. but I am stuck with this for the foreseeable future. Larry the problem comes in when you try to put the blade in. You slide it ass far as possible into the bottom and then into the top as far as it will go. then you go to set the tension. you turn the knob and then flip over the top. I would do this and tighten as far as it would let me and it would still be looser that I liked. taking a little off the top of the blade I can still get it firmly into both top and bottom and when I go to tighten I now have room left over. since the bottom of the blade has not moved it does not affect the reverse cut at all.

The saw I use right now is a Dremel (see attached pict). I have had it since sept. and have never felt like I could get the blade tension tight enough. Today I was just sick of it so I took a wire cutter and took off about 3/8 inch from the top of the blade. It fit so much better and I could actually get it tight enough. I think part of the problem is that my dremel is set up take pin blades as well and so the it is set up shorter. My control increased exponentially. Has anyone else ever had a similar problem? PS... I meant 3/16 above not 3/8
