Everyone here will have their "go to" fonts. I personally was underwhelmed with the font you used for ROYALS. Please Sir, do not take this as criticism. Fonts I like are: Forte, Cooper, Super Plummer, Ostrich & Free Style Script. Also use MV Boli for most of the patterns I submit, but I don't think that's what you want for your project. 1. Start with a joke. i.e. "A little girl went to her mother and said, 'Mommy, what is the origin of the human race, where do people come from?' Take an example piece. Part of a scroll pattern showing how the pattern is attached. Cut a few of the frets out of it. Show a blade or 2. 3. Set out some of your best work. Three questions you will be asked: How long did this piece take you? Do you sell any? How much for this one? 4. Give a Door Prize. Take along drawing slips, pencils & a bowl. Let someone else do the drawing. RELAX AND BE HUMBLE!! I was told by a number of people there that I was the best, most interesting speaker they ever had. jerry

When doing signs or word art in the past, I sprayed the entire oversized backer. Glued on the cut piece as usual and cut the perimeter last. This would often show a thin black line between the 2 boards. Now I mask the backer before painting and only paint the area that will show, but don't paint near the perimeter. The finished piece looks more professional. jerry

Lucky2, Your point is well taken, however, I NEVER feel I want or have a need for multiple copies of the same piece. One of my many hang ups is that I don't ever want any 2 of my pieces to be the same. Never sold any of my work. Thanks for the comment Friend, jerry

There is a polka song that has in it's lyrics: "In Heaven there is no beer" "That's why we drink it here" I am 76 years old and it was already being sung when I was a teenager. Hi Tino, You have good answers for table tilt. Attached is my idea of which way around the pattern to go. Possibly different blade manufacturers do it differently. Flying Dutchman blades seem to be stamped out, putting a kerf only on the right side of the blade, as you face the saw. Left side is flat. EXPERIMENT!! With a FD blade, if you are cutting out a tiny circle, at works far better to turn the wood CLOCKWISE. This way, the kerf will help you cut inward. If you go counter-clockwise, you would be trying to get the flat side of the blade to turn inwards. jerry Sawing Direction.doc

For Inkscape pattern designers: Save some basic parts of a pattern that you will be using again some day. 1. An example of the perimeter for Word Art. Change dimensions as desired. 2. Any example of a starting place for a round trivet. jerry Perimeter.svg Round Trivet.svg

If it is something to be glued on a black backer, I like 3.175 mm (1/8") for the cut piece. That way, the black is only half the distance "back". In my opinion, cutting a 6.35 mm (1/4") doesn't look as nice. jerry

Hi Doug, For really intricate cutting (especially 1/8"), I usually put a sacrifice luan ply above and below the piece. Saw all 3 pieces the same size and wrap with blue tape. Often put a dab of glue in the 4 corners also. jerry

Hi Orangeman, Re: Your # 1; I cut into a scrap. Stop the saw, spin the wood around to the back of the blade. If the blade goes into the cut, you're good. Low tech, but accurate.

Hi Friend, I like the idea of sitting down and pulling the saw towards me. On the closest side of the leg I straddle, I glued, screwed & carpeted a 1X4X12 or 14"? Use one foot to keep the saw from creeping away & the other foot on the switch. Alternate with switching feet. Also, with wheels, if you are swinging a large piece while sawing, you push the saw away as needed. With the "new" 1X4, I pull it back.

Me again. Just looked at my own pattern. Won't mention names, but someone forgot to put bridges in some of the names. (Read Dunce) No big deal, before cutting I always examine the pattern, put pencil marks where needed and cover it with a yellow highlighter. Won't tell you how I learned to do that. jerry

Hi Chad, I buy all my plywood hare and have always been happy their prompt shipping & wood quality. For a lot of things I order "Good Booth Sides." For the amount of time spent sawing, I consider extra cost worth, as now you have 2 sides to choose from. http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/default.htm Also use blue tape and also have some tearing out when pulling the tape, but not enough that it annoys me. As soon as you put on your first row of tape, mark the "topside" (the side where you want to apply the pattern). Once you have covered the whole piece, you won't be able to distinquish the "better" side. Hope this helps Friend, jerry
