  1. I haven't said anything. I do have an opinion. I gotta say. I support designers that put so much work into their designs. I think you all should. I have always thought that. I have also considered having a site. I draw/make it once, its out there, forever. Once $7, twice $7, over and over. I got that. Good. Anything online never goes away. Jeff Zaffino? But, what makes me soooo upset, is when none of those ppl that you think are soooo awesome will come and make a pattern of your dead uncle and his dog. Do you know why? Because they can't sell that again, not one $7 from you, or the next woman,.. and on and on... It is a one time deal. Free. For only you. And the thanks they get? is what? I didn't post a pic? lol. What? The least you could do is thank that person and post a pic. Simple. Two scroll saw magazines have asked me to make them patterns, they would publish them and make me famous. lmao. Yeah. They have no budget to pay me anything, but will send me a free issue. No money in the budget to pay me. Not even a pack of smokes.. But will advertise my site, name etc... i passed. Charlie asked to sell my patterns. Use his name and fame. Give me 20%, he gets 80%, because "that is what they do in art galleries". I passed on that one as well. So I am a little sour when it comes to paying for one. But that is, understandably, just me. It upsets me when i don't see anyone helping in the request section. all these *awesome* pattern makers and not one helping make a pattern of your dead uncle and his dog? I look at my stats, I don't have a bunch of posts, but i'm sure that half of those are for helping people with a request. None get cut. I have a list of twenty ppl that have posted a pic from all the years i've been doing this. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Sue Meys work. Or all original work. But, as we've all seen, with all the tutorials that are available on this site, anyone, anyone, can make a picture into a pattern. So actually sitting here and staring at a blank, white, canvas and trying to think of something that nobody else has done, then make it happen, is hard. You should pay for that, much more than you do, but the others, that turn someones photo into a pattern... not so much. I'll stop now, but i do have other thoughts... I'll be honest and say, i haven't read all the post on this, so if someone else has already said this, it's my opinion as well. Russell
  2. Which ever color is not broken up is the wood color, the broken spots here and there are to come out. If it is remove the white, all the black will be touching. If it is remove the black, all the white will be touching. Yeah you forgot the link. Russell
  3. Ahhh yes, I remember that one. Yes, that's what i had pictured when i made the pattern, making it out of 1/4" in the basket design was what we had talked about. I remember now. lol I'm old so... I have two computers, searched both, could not find that picture anywhere. So glad you found it. Russell
  4. Well to be honest, back in 2013 when i made this pattern i had no idea what it would be made into. I had pictured it made out of 1/2" material, in a basket form. I had never seen a pattern, but had seen a few other baskets made, and wondered if i could draw something like that. I never counted the number of layers that most were using, i guess i should have. There were 10 points on the pattern, so i made 10 layers. lol. No reason. shrinking each line the same amount etc.. anyway, fewer layers might be the way to go. Thinner material? Thinner and fewer? IDK. When i posted the pattern i called it "A Basket or Bowl Pattern", that pretty much tells you the way i was thinking. There have been many posts in the past, thanking pattern makers for the patterns, help, etc. I'd like to thank you ppl that cut these patterns. It takes a lot of faith to start cutting something from a picture the pattern maker posted. The time and material, and hoping it turns out to look good. Putting all that work into an idea that i had is awesome. I really do appreciate the work you do. Russell
  5. More nice work here! I'm sure Cody loves them. They turned out great, nice cutting. Some nervous work there for sure. Thank you for taking the time to post a picture for us. Much appreciated. Russell
  6. Very nice cutting there. Both don't look easy. Happy to see some from the Pattern Library being cut. Thank you for taking the time to post a picture for us. Russell
  7. Wow gotta say it is different!! lol. Tall... haha. You did a fantastic job on it. Looks so nicely done. I've never seen it made out of that thick of material. I guess if you wanted it not quite so tall you could leave a few of those bottom layers off. I think it will look very nice when its done. Not an easy project by any means, you did a fantastic job on this. Thank you for taking the time to post a picture for us, much appreciated. Russell
  8. That came out awesome. Very nice. I've always liked that special walnut stain, seems like just the right 'color of wood' to me. Nice job on the pattern and the cutting. Thanks for sharing this with us. Russell
  9. I live in the United States. We worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to insure that ppl could believe anything they wanted. AND the freedom to share those beliefs in public. It doesn't matter at all to me what you believe, as long as you don't bother me with it. If you come knock on my door and try to sell me on your beliefs, that bothers me. So as long as you don't do that, we don't have an issue at my house. But that is what made the United States the great country that it is today. I'm sorry you can't live here. I make a lot of patterns, I make what interests me. I'm sure you can post any patterns you'd like as long as they conform to the guidelines of this site. I've had one pulled. lol. I think you did a great job on that cutting, looks great. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years to come. Thank you for sharing it with us. Russell
  10. Ha! Love it. I think it came out great. As for the 'W' it is hardly noticeable. I'm sure your friend will have it displayed for many years to come, even when the house isn't New anymore. That font is a little thin that you added, you probably knew it was going to be risky. I think you did a great job cutting it, Thank you for taking the time to post a picture for us. Much appreciated. Russell
  11. I like it as is Dave. The white spot under his chin will be a challenge maybe. But for an all black cat, that's a very good pattern IMO. Russell
  12. You can use a palm sander to lighten the stain, if you've only stained it, and not finished it yet. That will take the dark top off and leave the stain in the pores. It's worth a try. Welcome to the forum Trollmomjo Russell
  13. Ha! I wish that was mine! Its an image i found online. Not many can be so lucky. lol. Nice find for sure. Russell
  14. Very nice work, i especially like the Home Sweet Home. Good stuff Russell
  15. Wow that's an awesome find! I assume you only got the cutter that was in it. What one was in it? Russell Ha!! Didn't see the other post. Great Deal you got there!
  16. Nice I like the lighter cross best, who's pattern is that? Russell
  17. Nice cutting! I like that pattern, you designed that? Thanks for sharing, glad to see you back. Russell
  18. Those were two tough images to work with, so glad you got them done. Spirthorse did a good job on that one, it was tough. They sure turned out great, you've got them framed very nicely. I'm sure the customer was pleased. Thank you for taking the time to post a picture to share with us, much appreciated. Russell
  19. I looked at your Gallery. Very nice work. What Spirithorse is talking about is in the image below. The correct font is the only problem you're having. The white is the wood. All the white must connect with "bridges" to the "islands". The places that don't connect, the "islands" in a pattern we call "floaters". When someone says that there are to many "floaters" in that pattern, or watch for "floaters" that means not enough bridges. All the white must connect in a pattern. That is why Spirithorse suggested you install those fonts, the bridges are built into the fonts, so no floaters. Make sense? lol. Russell
  20. Yep, i like the pattern and you did a nice job of cutting it. Thanks for posting a picture for us. Russell
  21. If I'm understanding you correctly, you are only needing the tables, correct? If that's the case, just build the skirt first and attach the legs on the inside of the skirt and do away with the angled braces in the corners. Screw from the inside through the legs into the skirt. Attach four 3/4" x 3/4" strips on the skirt to screw the top down from underneath. Make the holes a little oversized in the cleats you put on the skirt to allow for any movement (swelling, shrinking) of the table top. If you're going to try and make the chairs as well, then i would say that i'd charge at least $65 for each chair! lol. Russell
  22. Wow that bird came out just like i pictured it! Thank you Kevin. Another great job. Thanks for sharing that with us. I was a little worried about the wing coming out flush with the back of the body. Looks like it came out just right. Well done. You are a busy guy! Russell
  23. That came out really nice Marg, thanks for sharing that with us. I'm sure they will love it. I think its a super good idea for a wedding. You did a great job cutting it as always. Russell
