  1. El amor todo lo puede (Love Conquers All) Table Sign Pattern Want to impress your Spanish speaking friends, cut this little saying out and present it as a gift. The language truly is beautiful. I like to experiment with different kinds of wood, so I had this piece of Lati scrap which was just the right size for this table sign. The wood is really hard, but cut easily if you use a new blade. I used a piece of torrified ash for the base. Come sign up for my Free daily newsletter (at the top of the Free Patterns Page on my site) so you don't miss any of the free patterns I'm posting. 2. Lasting Love Table Sign Some of the most interesting table signs usually depict a scene and this one draws a poignant scene which bring home the passing of time and love. The young couple in the background have a chance to look into their future in the older couple in the foreground. Sometimes I have difficulty trying to decided where I'm going to place the lettering in relation to the graphic. Here I was lucky and able to hang them from the clouds above. I cut my sign from a vivid piece of cherry and mounted it on a flat strip of torrified maple. Hope you enjoy cutting this one. 3. Just experimenting with this little ditty. I wanted to use a blank made from a 2 x 4 (cut a slice about 1/4" thick) with a strange grain. Long lines throughout, sort of reminded me of a musical staff, so I built the pattern around a musical theme. The 2x4 was a very soft material and very easy to cut, maybe too easy. Had to control the blade as I cut through it. Placed it upon a thin base of maple to make a neat little sign. Garage

    Whew! That’s quite a job.
  5. Scrollsaw Hero: Steve Good Table Sign Pattern Ok. Here's something a little different. It's my tribute to that Sultan of Scrollsawing, that Guru of the kerf, Steve Good. We all know of his work and giant contribution to the art of the scrollsaw. Personally, just about everything I've learned about this art has come from watching Steve Good. So I thought it about time he has his own sign. Hope you enjoy cutting it. Thank you Steve for all you have done. I cut mine from cherry wood and mounted it on a top layer sharp cut graphic which sits upon a pine slab. Free Pattern
  6. Air Traffic Controllers Table Sign Pattern Not sure if there is much demand for a sign like this, but if you know someone in the field of aviation it might make an interesting gift. If nothing else you can get some experience at cutting a lot of objects in an art piece like this. This is a complex little sign with the lettering, station, clouds and airplane, but not really difficult to cut. I cut mine from poplar and used the cut off to shape a rambling base. The free pattern above is available for download on my FREE PATTERNS page linked from the Index page on my website.
  7. Happy Camper Table Sign Pattern Styled for the outdoorsman this sign might make a nice gift. Tried something a bit different with this piece. I cut the sign itself from 1/4" maple, but I found a large branch from a tree so I split it down the middle with my bandsaw and then shaved off the top side also with the bandsaw to make a flat surface. Glued the sign to it and ended up with a nice rustic base. The bark came out rather shiny and looks almost brown, but was gray bark, after I sealed the whole project. 8. #1 Grandpa Table Sign Pattern Well, we had a Dad sign before so now it's time for a grandpa sign. Similar to the Dad sign -- cut from maple with a layered base top of maple cut off on a bed of mahogany. Also used the cut out of the heart as an added accent. Free Pattern:
  9. Great job. The spalted maple and the slate base give it a beautiful rustic quality.
  10. Iraq Veterans Table Sign Pattern This idea was suggested by one of my donors and I've tried something a little bit different with this piece. Combined a male and female soldier along with an amazing sky filled with clouds and jet over an empty field with a jeep. To make the piece stand out I added a backing board panel. The piece could stand well without the backing board, but the shadows it creates adds to the total effect. This all sits on a slab of mahogany. The sign itself is cut from about 1/4" poplar with a nice grain to it. Hope you enjoy it. Free Pattern
  11. Thanks for the comments. Glad to see the signs are useful.

    Dad

#1 Dad Table Sign Pattern Father's day roll around and there is a need for a gift for dear ol' dad. Well maybe this sign might do the job. Pictures dad on his climb to the top supported by love. I cut this from maple wood and used the cut off to shape a top layer for the base. The bottom layer is made from a slab of mahogany. When I cut the center of the heart I thought maybe it would make a good addition to the base, so I added it as a pseudo inlay on the top of the deck. Was also going to used the cut out stars on the base as well, but felt it would be too much, so I saved them for maybe another project later on. Used up most of this blank. Free Pattern:
  13. Your store is lookin' good, Duke.
  14. Vietnam Veterans Table Sign Pattern One of my donors suggested this sign. I tried to capture the power of the war with the introduction of helicopters and a lone soldier. I cut my version of the sign from curly maple and used the cutoff for a wandering layer atop a mahogany slab. The sign is fairly easy to cut because of the bold lettering, but I cut the blades of the copters a bit thicker than in the pattern. Better to do this because they are a weak point out in the open. 15. McHale's Navy was a popular TV comedy show that appeared on the scene on October 11, 1962. Wow! was it really that many year ago. Tim Conway who played the part of Mister Parker passed away recently so I thought it might be time to come up with a tribute sign for the show. I cut mine completely out of curly maple and improvised a flat wave base to stand it on. If you have any suggestions of other TV shows that might make good sign topics, please drop me a line and let me know. Free Pattern:
  16. Teach Table Sign Pattern School is coming to an end soon so this might make a nice gift for the teacher. I cut mine from a variegated board I glued together from some scrap wood ( cherry and maple) to make a nice ice cream feel to the piece (chocolate and vanilla). I used the cut off piece with the leaf outline in it as a base. Free Pattern:
  17. The Few The Proud The Marines This is a second rendition of the famous slogan created for recruitment of Marines. I cut mine from Sapele wood and used the off cut as the top layer for the base. The bottom base is a slab of pine, but I made some slot cuts along the edges to give it some character. Free Pattern:
  18. The ship of the infamous Captain Bligh lives on in this wood piece. I cut the ship from sapele wood and the most difficult part is the beginning lettering, but not impossible if you take your time. I had a small piece of spalted maple I shaped into a top layer of the base and shaped another bottom layer again from sapele. Makes a nice piece for display. The free pattern above is available for download on my FREE PATTERNS page linked from the Index page on my website. New Video On YouTube I generally cut my signs with a 5, 7, or 9 Reverse tooth saw, depending on the thickness of the wood, so I don't need a lot of blade storage area. I came up with some little magnetic cases built out of birch ply wood which I attach to my saw so my blades are handy. So I made a short video on how these are made in case some other scroll saw users would like to build some. You can view the video on My YouTube Channel. If you like it, please click the like button and subscribe to the channel so you will be alerted when I put up a new video. Thanks for watching. Comments welcome.
  19. This was my first car (convertible) back in the early 70's. Now you can have one on your desktop. I decided to experiment with a 2x4 so that's what I cut this from. To dress it up a bit, I placed it atop an improvised roaming base of sapele. Free Pattern:
  20. This simple sign says it all, from the solemn crosses to the draped flag. I cut this from a piece of birch ply and mounted it on a wood base of cherry that I stressed using my belt sander. Gives a nice worn effect. Free pattern available:
  21. Thanks for your comments. Always wonder if anyone else will cut these.
  22. Often this quote from Robert Frost makes a lot of sense. In some cases you might need a big fence in others you might only need an outline, like the one in this pattern. In any event I cut mine from 1/4" birch ply and mounted it on a rather exotic base of Lati wood, a scrap from another project that I shaped as a nesting place for the sign. 23. The passing of a loved one is always an earth shaking event and people often send flowers, lamps, wreaths and other items to help sooth the pain. This table sign might help by offering comfort to the situation. Mine is cut from Sapele wood, a nice soft chocolate wood, and as usual I used the off cut to make an improvised layered base. The top layer and sign were then mounted on a piece of maple. Done in a fine wood it makes an impressive display piece. In my newsletter I also explain how you can use other cut off pieces to make your bases and signs really stand out. 24. Here's another car name and shape made as a table ornament sign. I wanted to give a traveling effect to this sign so I placed it upon an off cut from another sign and made it look like the long and winding road. I cut the sign from 1/4" birch ply and the base is cut from Sapele and both are given a coat of clear seal. I put a second picture up so you can get a better idea of what the base looks like. Free Pattern:
  25. Hi, Tom. The layered base is not really difficult once you clear your mind that a base doesn't have to just be a blank rectangle or some other shape. I like to use as much of the wood from my cutting blank, so I came up with the idea of creating improvised bases and base layers. I did a video explaining my procedure and it's available by clicking here. I've also attached a couple of overhead shots of the last two projects I posted. Hope all of this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Al B.
