  1. Nicely done... It looks really great... a proud piece to be displayed for a long time to come Dick heppnerguy
  2. I have a grandson that just completed his green barrette training and moved onto another faze of his continual training to be the best he can be. This one is called HALO. It is where they go really high in an airplane, so as to not be detected and jump into enemy territory as a small special forces group, like they did when they got Osama Ben Laden. After a long free fall they then only employ their chutes when close to the ground. This plaque is the symbol of the HALO graduates. My grandson is one of my heroes and I am honored to make him this plaque. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I have not attempted to make a pattern for some time and usually when I do, I miss a few floaters so this time, I made the pattern and then I cut it myself and this is the end results. Dick heppnerguy
  4. Thank you for the welcome back. I will also be away most of the summer as we will be traveling back to Oregon for June and July and then we are off on an cruise the latter part of August. After that, I believe things should be back on track. It is fun to make unexpected gifts for people. I like better then when I sell a piece because it is something I am giving myself, if you know what I mean. Dick heppnerguy
  5. It is truly amazing to me that we have remained friends and still get together after almost 60 years together in peace time Dick heppnerguy
  6. Welcome to The Village family. We are world wide and also helpful, friendly and kind to one another. Look all around and ask anything but be ready for a lot of answers. Not everyone does things the same way but you can try all the different things you hear and find the one that suits you best. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Welcome to The Village from warm and sunny Southern Arizona. I sure hope to see you on here often and please continue to post your work for all of us to appreciate. Nice to have you on board Dick heppnerguy
  8. Sherry, I probably got in the Village about the time you left so I hope you log on often so us 'newbies' can get to know you and you us. Welcome home Dick heppnerguy
  9. Paul that is because these are really simple patterns and you only want to cut the intricate ones. I too prefer the ones with a lot of fret but these were requests. TTYS Dick heppnerguy
  10. Both layers of the plaque are 1/4 inch BB Birch. The backer board is just stained Black. I take the picture plaque and lay it on what is going to be the backer board and using a pencil and a small washer, I put the pencil in the washer hole and trace around the original plaque. That gives me the spacing I am after over the complete piece. It works well on items that are odd shaped too Dick heppnerguy
  11. Oh, I forgot. When I was in Texas with my Army buddies, I discovered something that I did not know. My friend was talking about how they had purchased 5 different VW Vans over their married life. He had enjoyed them so much that he was even thinking about getting another one. Immediately, I decided to cut one for him as a little surprise gift. So I did and it is on it's way to him now. Fun to surprise someone with a gift they did not know they were going to receive. 12. Last week we went to Texas for a wedding, and since we were in Austin and I have an old army buddy that lives there, I sent an email and asked if there was any chance that we might get together while we were there. He was more than happy to open up his house for my wife and I to spend the night with them, the day before the wedding. The next day I got an email from him, stating that he was going to go to their new beach house in Corpus Christi where we would be joined by a couple more of our Army buddies. Sounded great. While we were at the beach house, he asked me if I would make him another Airborne plaque like I had given all the guys when we had a reunion in Colorado, about four years ago. It was a pattern that I had made so I was able to duplicate it, easily and went to the shop yesterday and finished it last night and took it to the post office a little while ago. So he will have his new plaque in two days. Nice when someone likes something you make and asks for another one. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Good job.. It feels good to get going in the shop after a time away. You sure made good work with the new found time Dick heppnerguy
  14. Getting more sleep must mean that you are letting your body recover better and this should turn to a better health situation for you, Glad to hear Dick heppnerguy
  15. I like them both.. very nice job on them Dick heppnerguy
  16. What a cute little girl. You need to take a lot of photos and print them for her as she will never remember this day otherwise. Maybe a little home made scrap book with the photos of the party in it would do nicely and become a treasure for her for all time Dick heppnerguy
  17. A good sign really gets people to the sale. Great job on those, Kevin. They can use these many times in the future too Dick heppnerguy
  18. I have several of sue Mey's e-books as they a free easy to get and fast. You just pay for them and receive them in a down load in a couple of minutes. They are a good value and I trust Sue totally. Infact she is so honest that is you log isn't her Web site every time you purchase something from her, she gives you a personal file of your purchases and if you lose your patterns in your computer, you can download them again. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I am not too sharp on wood ID, in fact, I do not have any idea as to the wood species here, but I do know that I like the bear intarsia you are doing here. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I really was not prepared to give a piece of intarsia, which I usually try to give for donations.. perhaps next time I can give something a little more desirable for creating some money for them. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Lew, I hope you told your family that you would not be around for any conversation for awhile. Heck, you may not be in for dinner, as far as that goes. You sound like you are ready for some fun shop time. Just think, taking in a few pieces of blank wood and coming out with a new creation. Dick heppnerguy
  22. it sure is interesting to me, the variety of other hobbies that people have on this sight. I can not find enough time to do my scrolling, let alone an added hobby on top of that. Thanks for posting your tin work. I enjoyed seeing it and hope to see even more of your work posted here in the near future Dick heppnerguy
  23. Nice to have you on board with us. You should soon discover that we are a friendly and helpful group. I can't for the life of me figure out how you could possibly be able to stay away from your scroll saw. I live in Southern Arizona and we have several Canadian's that own houses on our street. I am not sure about the snow in your area but for us, it is in the upper 80's right now, which is the normal temperatures for this time of the year. I hope you start spending more time in your shop with that scroll saw so we can see more of your work. I too enjoy fret work the most and then I guess it might be intarsia next. Hope to see you on here a lot. Dick heppnerguy
  24. It not only came out well but you found a great place to display it where you can enjoy looking at it every day. Good job Dick heppnerguy
  25. A great way to display them.. they are very well done Dick heppnerguy
