    Wolf

I really like it, Hawk. I tried inlay some time ago & am afraid to go there again. I think I did it the hard way for the first time. I did it with acrylic. Yikes ! Have you ever used the resin & hardener mix for a finish ? I use one called Envirotex. It comes out beautiful. Just like glass. By the way, your Wolf is beautiful. Looks great.
  2. Nice cutting. You did a good job on that one. The frame is nice too ! Keep up the good work.
  3. Thank you all for those kind words. I like to do portraits, both personal & pets. Our friend picked up the portraits today & was real happy with them. I feel good that I got them done close to Christmas. Thanks again.
  4. Way to go Ed ! I did one some time ago on a 1/2 in oak ply in a frame. I sure miss my rides on the Wing. Did a lot of traveling on it. Thanks for showing us yours. Love it !
  5. Finally finished a late request for Christmas from a friend. Had to hurry a little to get it done even now. The friend wanted two portraits of their dogs & one of their cat. I tried, but, just not enough time. She understood that it would take a while to finish & even paid for the portraits before being finished. I did them in 1/4 in. oak ply with the frames of stained pine wood. The backers are of black foam sheets & also did some pyro burn on them. Finally ready for delivery. Thanks for looking. Happy New Year everyone.
  6. I really like the spiral blades & haven't used anything but, FD. I like the 3/0, 2/0 spirals for the portraits that I do. I do use larger ones, but, like the fine detail of the small ones. Can't use the reverse spiral though, they are too aggressive & dusty. I do use a flat blade for some longer straight cuts, like the Silver reverse or the Ultra reverse. If I cut 3/4 in. oak, I like to use the polar or larger Silver reverse. ;Most of my cutting is fret as I do a lot of personal portraits & pets also. I personally think you need to work with different blades & find what works for you & your kind of cutting. Good Scrolling to you all.
  7. I have a hard time telling if I have a blade in backwards or upside down ! Especially the reverse blades. I do learn quick though, when I start cutting a piece of acrylic. Hate it when that happens.
  8. I learn a lot here when we do these kinds of threads. My preference is mostly spiral FD, 2/0 & 3/0 & then for straight line cutting, I use the Silver Rev. or Ultra reverse. I don't care to use a reverse spiral, as they are too aggressive & lots of build up of dust. The finer the better. I do use some larger spirals, when I have a large area that I am cutting. Keep up these great threads, I like it. Take Care All.
  9. I don't like it either. It's only good for cleaning brushes & I don't even like it for that. It looks like curdled milk & real sick looking stuff. It's getting old on the shelf too. Don't like it. Rather have the odor or whatever.
  10. You bet, Pyro is a good medium of Art. Why not just pyro a scroll pattern & add more detail to it. I think a scroll pattern is a good pyro pattern. Just burn all the lines & shadows instead of cutting them out. I do several pieces of pyro, even tho I don't have the modern burner. I do like all forms of Art anyway, so it's my cup of tea. Enjoy your Pyrography along with Scrolling. Take Care & EVERYONE HAVE A NICE CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR. THIS IS A PYRO THAT I MADE FOR A FRIEND
  11. Mike, that is a beautiful cutting. I love the detail. It looks so real, like a photo. I like that in a pattern. You did a splendid job cutting it. You do have talent. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Hey, Kevin, where did that Mikey commercial come from ? Just some worthless information from me, I packaged that stuff for many years. Good Ole Life Cereal. !
  13. Looks real nice. I love wildlife & animals. You did a great job cutting it. Thanks
  14. Jim, you can be proud of that one. I'm sure they will be too ! You do beautiful work. Thanks
  15. WOW, that is a real nice sled, Jerry. I used to live where there was snow, but, not now. Mike you are not too far away from me & talk about dropped chin's, I walked out of a restaurant in Yuma, Az. & there was a pickup truck with a Snowmobile in the back ! How far did he go for snow???? Love your sled Jerry & you did some beautiful work finishing that. Your children will love it. Thanks' for showing us.
  16. Thank you all, so much. I enjoy doing these types & particularly portraits. I have commissioned a few for individuals. I like doing portraits from my own patterns. I request a clear photo of the subject & go from there. I have dabbled in painting & different area's of art. Just love it all. Thanks again for your kind words & comments. Take Care
  17. David, you have to take into consideration, the kind of wood that you will use for what project. If you are cutting a name for desk-top, I would use a thicker piece of solid wood & not plywood. I always used 1 in. oak so it would stand by itself. Other projects are good with plywood, but, be careful of using the box store plywood. I have had problems with Lowes & Home Depot plywood. The laminate splinters as you cut it & is not a smooth cut. Leaves a rough finish. I do agree with others here about the 1/4 in. or 1/8 in. cutting very quickly, so you have to be very careful & try to cut slower. Just practice, practice, practice. Happy Scrolling
  18. Here are a few that I ;have done previously, that have some color or just a little different in design. Hope you enjoy. I enjoyed doing them. Take Care
  19. You do beautiful work. I like it very much & would like to know if it is double sided or is it a reflection. It looks as if it could be reversible & hang on the wall. They are real nice pieces. Thank You
  20. Those really look nice. You did a great job on them. Gives me ideas. Thanks
  21. Jim, I have had my #2 for 7 yrs. now & just made some adjustments & replaced the blade holders on mine. If you are a production type scroller, it may make a difference. I only use mine for hobby & some commission jobs. Some owners complain of the blade movement forward & back which causes problems with corner turns. I mostly use spiral blades, so I don't have that problem. Take Care
  22. I get mine from the sign co. that my wife works at. I don't have to pay for scrap's, but, if I need a large piece, I pay. A lot of the pieces I get are a good 12 in. square or even larger. They throw it away, so, should be a good source. Good Luck.
  23. Sure hope you can get over the eye problem first of all. I just purchased a cheap table clamp type magnifier & use a florescent bulb in it. I am on the second one now, so it works for me. I do wear glasses too. My problem is bending over the work piece for any length of time. It gets me in the back. I usually work an hour or so & then go sit on my vibrator chair. I'm spoiled that way, HA. I think you just have to get a good idea of the mag. lites & find what you like for yourself. Good Luck.
  24. Thanks again everyone. Dick, I just used a craft paint & coated the fish with a clear to make it look wet. I used just a lite coat of brown paint for Fred Bear. Didn't want to use a lot of different colors on that one. Thanks again all !!
  25. Thank you so much. Kevin, you are too much. I just love doing things a little different than the normal. This is what keeps me going on the ole saw. I dabble with a little bit of Art, no matter what it is. I'll have to show you my John Wayne pastel & Kenny Rogers. Thanks so much everyone.
