  1. Well, I finished the portrait & the frame too. I used 1/4 in. B B ply & 1x2 oak for the frame. I did route a groove in the side & bottom for an added touch. I also added some color to their face & arms, so they would not look quite so pale. Didn't really want to add color to any of it, but, I think it needed just that touch. Thanks for looking & your earlier comments too. Take Care
  2. Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions. I know an artist is his own worst critic. My wife would not let me sell anything real cheap. She say's I should always receive the most for my talent. I always feel I'm asking too much if I ask a high price for a piece of my work. I have kept track of my time on some of my works & the wood is hard to come by in my area. I have to send away for most wood that I work with. Sometimes I can pick up some oak at our box stores if I need it. It just isn't easy to find wood here in Yuma, Az. Thanks again to all of you & I will post the portrait along with the photo when I finish with it.
  3. Just wanted to run this by a few of you & see what I should charge for this portrait that I'm in the process of doing for a friend ? It will be done on a 12 x 12 in. BB ply 1/4 in. thick. I have only given a portrait to someone, but, never charged a price for one. Usually it's a portrait for my relatives or the kids. I'm doing it on request of a friend & I don't want to charge too much. Maybe $ 100.00 & I will be making the frame for it also. What do you think? Don't be bashful, I won't be offended. Thanks in advance for any help. Take Care P S it isn't the greatest picture.
  4. I finished another project right after the Falcons. It is very different & not wood. I used two 1/8 in. pieces of Acrylic for this license plate. The backer is red & of coarse the front is white. I did hand paint the cactus & the text of Yuma, Az. for a change of pace. The wife wanted this for the car, so I went to my stash of plex to make it. I did the entire piece with the # 1 spiral blade. I like using the spirals. Go visit us some time. Thanks for looking. Take Care
  5. Your site should be yours. That's what I said when we had ours built by someone else. I don't like the idea of not having control of making changes when needed. Most of all it was expensive. I wish we would have built our own. I like the sites you all have posted here. They look real nice. This is our site ----- www.woodcraftsnquilts.com We learn sometimes & sometimes not. This time it was too late for us. Not happy with the builder of ours. I will never go there again. Good Luck to you.
  6. Finished this piece yesterday & thought I would post it here since it is a pattern of Grandpa's U/K. It is a most outstanding pattern. I love all the wildlife & bird pieces that I can do. Thanks Grandpa, for a great pattern. I used a 1/2 in. piece of basswood, with the bark just slightly trimmed off. It really was a good wood for this pattern. I cut the ends of it to add a rustic look to it & finished it with Tongue oil. Thanks
  7. Congrat's on the new saw purchase. I have had mine about 5 yrs. now & love it. Don't use it every day but, hasn't failed me yet. I don't know if you like to sit or stand while cutting, but, I like to sit & would not be without my foot switch. I had trouble with dust in the switch shortly after I got it, so ordered the foot switch right away & never had any trouble with it since. You will need to tape over the original switch to keep the dust out of it, even though you will just leave it in the on position. Hope you enjoy yours. I really think you will. Take Care
  8. You don't want to be an unhappy scroller, so I would recomend sending it back. I realize it's hard to do something like that, but, you may be better off. You don't want to be working on it all the time. Right now, you just can't use it. I would start over. Be patient & let them know you are not happy with the product at all. I just can't believe the products they are putting out today, and expensive as they are too. Good Luck
  9. Thanks everyone, now on to the next job ! Just work, work, work, HA
  10. " Got-R-Dun " Finished up yesterday & will make a different frame for it later. I really like the TV show & the name Robert Taylor is what got me curious. Same name different actor. Remember the one from yesteryear? He was a popular actor & did a lot of movies. Thanks for looking.
  11. You're right obsessed scroller. You surprise me. I was wondering if anyone knew him at all. I don't watch regular TV shows that are on like once a week or whenever they show them. It is one of the better shows that I have seen. I love the old westerns & the outdoors, so I suppose that is why I like this one. I will post it when I get it finished. Thanks to you all.
  12. Am getting started on this portrait & thought about a trivia question for all of you. Who is it ? I just learned a while back myself & really like the TV show. Modern day Sheriff of Wyoming. Doing it in a 1/4 in. bb ply, 12 x 12 & will make my own frame for it when done. I partially shaded a couple areas to see what it would look like when cut, so don't pay any attention to the pencil shading. Well, what do you think. I am partial to Cowboys. Thanks for looking.
  13. Nice idea ! All I did was tighten the pivot screw, so the upper arm stays up when I lift it & then just pull it back down when ready. Don't need a lift on my 788. Thanks for a good idea.
  14. Real nice, BUT, I would like to see glasses on the holder & some coins in the tray ! Don't need to see the phone on the holder. I always say, I don't want anything in my hand that is smarter than me. These things have taken over our world ! I think anyway. I'm old fashion I guess. Looks great. I have an eyeglass holder though. Thanks
  15. Well, I finished the Oak frame & it does look much better. It really adds a richness to the portrait. I used 1x 2in. oak & routed the edges & accent in the center. Thanks for looking . Have a nice Memorial Day.
  16. WOW, love those big " Caddy's ". Never owned one, but, those cars of the 50's & 60's were really something. We used to make a special trip to the Dealerships to see the new designs. I drove a 58 Plymouth Fury & I can vouch for it's speed. I had it up to 135 MPH & it actually scared me. HA You did a beautiful job cutting it & the pattern is great too. Thanks
  17. I'll bet you really enjoyed doing that one. You picked a nice piece of wood for it too ! Oak looks great sitting on a desk or shelf. Nice work.
  18. Thank You everyone ! Now I will have to see who wins out on the ownership. Wife or Daughter ? BUT, first I'll have to make the Oak frame. Thanks again for your nice comments.
  19. I just finished this portrait of Wife & Daughter. I had been looking at the picture for some time & finally decided to do it. It's a 1/8 in. BBirch & the frame is temporary. It is made of hard surfaced flooring that I got from a friend. I intend to make a frame of 1 in. x 2 in. oak to finish it up. I think the oak frame will add a lot to it. Hope you like it.
  20. Looks great & is a real nice combination. You came up with a real nice idea & it looks great. Thanks
  21. I really like it. Too bad you didn't win ! It should have. So let them wish it was their's. You did a real nice job on it. I never though of using the thicker wood for a segmentation. Good Idea. Thanks
  22. Hey, that is one fine piece of work ! Beautiful wood too. Nice choices of everything. I was wondering about the edging too. Thought maybe you used a drum sander or even the scrollsaw. That would be some work though. Thanks
  23. I just finished this yesterday for my wife. She had a request from a friend who lost his English Bulldog, WINSTON. He wanted these great photo's of him posted on his office wall. I used 1/8 in. bb ply & 1/8 in. clear acrylic with foam backer. I attached it with just 4 screws that are visible on the front. I also used the wood burner for the foot pads. The frame is leather braid. I hope you like the view. Thanks
  24. That is one cooool cut. You do some fine work. I love those classic cars, pictured or otherwise. Thanks for sharing it.
  25. That looks real nice. I first thought it looked like you routered it. Something like the welcome signs I have seen. It is a real nice money maker & quick too. Good Job.
