  1. Thank you all very much for the kind words. For both the "Two Faces", and the encouraging words about clowning. I really do appreciate it. Someday I'll have to figure out how to get my picture under my name. Gonzo.
  2. Oops, here it is
  3. This pattern was designed by Michael Kelly, and published in the spring/summer 2016 Scrollsaw Woodworking magazine. Though it was designed for a different reason, I had to make it for two reasons. 1) I am a clown and HAD to make it. 2) With the bad publicity that clowns have had for the past few months, it truly has made quite a few of us clowns tear up. A lot of my clowns friends have lost a gigs because of the morons that posed as I don't know what, but they certainly aren't clowns. So.... Here It is, Two Faces of a Clown. I hope you all like it. My apologies for getting on the soapbox. Gonzo ( The Clown)
  4. Sure is quite the challenge, isn't it? I've made a few that I was able to finish. And then I made a few that ended up being kindling. But the finished ones sure are impressive.
  5. I am a huge believer in Pegas modified geometry. They work great, especially when I am making the birdhouse ornaments. FD ultra reverse are a close second.
  6. The vast majority of the time I use painters tape, glue, cut. Packing tape has too much glare.
  7. My brother is making a baby cradle for our niece who is having a baby. He asked me to scroll a design of some sort for it. The area I have to work with is 5" wide by 10" tall. 1/2" red oak. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or patterns. Thanks, Gonzo
  8. This is in response to your great customer service from Woodcraft. Unfortunately, I had the complete opposite with my south metro Woodcraft. I used to buy my Pegas blades, wood, and sundries from them. When my 788 went on the fritz, I went shopping for an Excalibur. I asked Woodcraft if I could try their Excalibur that they had for demo's and classes. The manager said no. Guess who didn't get the sale when I bought my EX-21. Guess who no longer gets my scroll saw blade business. Guess who no longer gets any of my business. I am now in the market for a Festool vacuum. Guess who won't even get a chance at that. It's unfortunate, because I truly believe in shopping local and I used to like shopping there. However, thank you for the review on the Jet, and it is nice to hear about the good customer service you were treated with.
  9. Very cool! Your Dad will love it
  10. Hardware Hank and Menards also carry Watco Danish oil. Quart cans only
  11. I've had mine for a few years and it is amazing how well it works. Wouldn't do without
  12. Pegas modified geometry #3 and modified geometry #5 are my go to blades. I seem to have better control using them vs the Flying Dutchman, (though I do like FD blades). The modified geometry #5 works very well for me when compound cutting. I use both the #3 and #5 when doing fret work. I stock up on them when Woodcraft runs their coupons.
  13. I have an old Delta lathe that is full size. I, like a few of the others, would recommend buying used. Personally, I wouldn't go mini, as it limits you to what you can do size wise. Variable speed is nice, but isn't needed. A good set of chisels is needed. Also a bench grinder to keep the tools sharp. I sharpen mine to a mirror finish by hand and keep a leather strop nearby to keep the edge. Keeping the tools sharp is a MUST. It is not difficult to do, but is time consuming. Also for safety sake, a full face shield would be prudent to have. I have one and it has saved my ugly mug from getting even uglier. There are two turners in this world. The ones who have not had their work "blow up" on them, and those that will. Be careful! Wood turning is a fun medium. It truly is amazing what you can do with a lathe.
  14. It looks like acmetool.com has them in stock. That's where I bought mine. I had to return mine because of a warped and blemished table. They were very good at making sure that I was completely satisfied.
  15. How do you keep the wood slice from cracking as it dries?
  16. Woodcraft stores. Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa.
  17. As I said in the other post about blade selection, I use this blade for compound cutting. Works great on the birdhouse ornaments!!
  18. Here is a picture that you had requested a few days ago from another post. My apologies for taking so long posting it.
  19. I use Pegas modified geometry for compound cutting and Flying Dutchman for fret work. Type and size of blade depends on type and thickness of wood. I highly suggest (as others suggested to me) trying all different kinds and types. To me, that's one of the challenges using the scroll saw. When you find a blade that works very well for the application you're using, it's kind of like an "oh wow"! moment. PS. It also helps to write down the blade you are using each time.
  20. I bought an EX-21 about 6 months ago. In my opinion, the dust collector works great if you are doing "perimeter" type work. But if you are doing fret work, the dust collector becomes a major pain in the neck. I took mime off after about a month.
  21. I have the Dust Deputy also. It works wonderfully. I highly recommend one.
  22. Very impressive!
  23. Thank you all very much for your input. Sycamore67, what brand is your vacuum?
  24. Does anyone have an opinion about the DV-10A dust collector for the Excaibur from Seyco? It is on their website. I am wondering how efficient it is, how quiet it is, and is it worth it.
