  1. I think you have a good idea here. I read your post last evening and went looking on the internet. I could not find anywhere one could buy a clamp as a whole unit. Probably have to call Jet. And, I bet it is more than I would want to spend, unless I knew it would fit.
  2. I'm with Tomsteve on this. I don't understand why yours would be different.
  3. Only thing missing is a beer! Looks like you are having a great time. Nice birdhouses.

    Wheelie

some nice work. Look great with some flowers growing in it.
  5. Sure glad to see the vinyls back. Very nice one.
  6. There have been several threads started that relate to the future of your scrolling.. what you want for the new year of scrolling. I have been thinking of the past year and scrolling and trying to think of some categories of things that may have impacted ones scrolling the most. Here are some of my thought and responses. Others may have different categories but I think it would be fun to list and respond. - The biggest improvement I have made, to make my scrolling more scrolling enjoyable for me: My answer would be my improved dust collection system on my scroll saws. - The project I completed in 2017 I am most proud of: Boy, I have thought about this and it is so hard.. but I guess I will answer, the "Five Dragon Box". Reason, in the past I have concentrated on detail pictures. Doing the detailed box made me know I want to do more of that type of fret work like intricate clocks, and other boxes. Also branch out to into other boxes like Shaker boxes and boxes with inlays and marquetry. - What did I learn on this forum that really has been a help and change for me: I'd say a couple things: Pegas saw blades. The more I try them, the more I like them. Using the adhesive shelf paper instead of blue painters tape. New at this, but liking it. - What item brought you the most requests/business: Couple items I did got me the most attention responses from none scrollers/customers. The 2nd Amendment plaque. Hope I am finishing up my last one this week. The picture of Gus McCrea and Captain Call from "Lonesome Dove". I guess I have really had the most fun with the framing. On the original, I added to the frame a piece with a quote from the book/movie which was from the sigh Gus made for the Lonesome Dove ranch... "We don't rent pigs" and the Latin phrase he put on the sign (no one really seems to know what it means). I have required anyone else that wants a copy of the picture, to come up with a quote for me to the frame. That seem to be a real struggle for them, they have to re-watch the series or re-read the book to come up with one. I do not understand why it is so hard. I am 2/3's the way through the book for the third read of it and I find all kinds of possibilities. When I watch the series again for probably the 7th or 8th time I'm sure I will come up with more...! One of my fondest memories related to the forum and scrolling in 2017: I met and became friends with Heppnerguy. We really enjoyed our visits and phone calls. I hope he feels the same, although he did move to Arizona. Hope meeting me wasn't the reason. As an added bonus I met his daughter, Country Girl, who is a intrasia artist. So there are my "looking back" items. Maybe you have your own. I'd love to read them. Sorry this turned out to be a longer post than I planned.
  7. I read here some have had to replace their clamps on the Ex type saws. I'm curious as to why. What is going that you have to replace the whole clamp? Stripped threads would be my guess. I saw a suggestion on the SS&W forum of putting in helicoils. This suggestion was made by Rolf. Might be worth while. You would have to determine the correct size/thread needed.
  8. Maybe this will work, not sure, you may have to be a Lumberjock member: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/tag/urn
  9. If you do a search on here of "urn" there are a few. Seems like I have seen more of them over on the "LumberJocks" site.
  10. Mine came with the "Loc-line" attached as you see. It works fine. It was mounted on the other side of the upper arm but I move it to the side it is now on. Not sure where you get the little brass fitting to insert into the hose and screw the Loc-line to. Should not be hard to find though. Maybe from Loc-line, maybe Home Depot, maybe auto parts store.
  11. I want to try inlay. I am going to learn to make Shaker Boxes, and I want to incorporate using the scroll saw with them. I think inlays in the tops of the boxes might work. I also want to do more detailed, intricate scrolling like a large wall clock, some more boxes, maybe do the 23 Psalms pattern I have had for a couple years.
  12. Interesting, I didn't realize there is anything wrong with the current clamps. other than they are made of aluminum and it looks like the Pegas ones are also. Probably will hear more about them as time goes on. Anyone in US interested that is a little over $95 plus shipping. I do not know how that compares with the original clamps.
  13. Been working on it and MrsN's solution has saved me a great deal of work. Covered lightly with wood filler, sanded lightly, covered the front of the backer with a coat of spray varnish, then 3 coats of flat black Rust-oleum 2X Ultra COver (I like that paint). Unless you knew where to look, I don't thing you could find the patch. Good enough for me. Thank you all for the suggestions/help.
  14. Well first off, thanks for the chewing out... I admitted it was a "problem/mistake". But, your are correct, I do know something about Baltic Birch. I buy it at local lumber yards, 5' x 5' sheets. Buying it in little squares, adding shipping and it is not what I want to spend my money on. I have no problem finding good sheets of any thickness over 1/8" , but the 1/8" is not the best. I bought it after selecting the best piece I could find, and figured I could work around the patches (they were all at one end of the sheet). Didn't work out. Could have, had I been paying more attention... But I am going to try to fix it, if I can't I will remake. The rest of the sheet I bought does not have the patches. One more coat of flat black may do it.
  15. So glad you are joining us. I look forward to seeing your work.
  16. Okay, will try MrsN's suggestion first (after all she teaches woodworking.... plus use flat black on the backer part and semi-gloss on the border. That is what I ended up on the last on. Tried all flat black and didn't like the border flat so repainted it with semi. Looked nice that way. If that doesn't work I will try the veneer. I'm concern the veneer will not stick to a painted surface, but I to use screw in the backer also for assurance the plaques stay put on it. Thanks to you all for your inputs.
  17. They should certainly be happy with that!
  18. i am putting together another "2nd Amendment" to donate to an auction. I have a problem/mistake that I am not sure how to fix. The BB I used for the backer has some "patches in it. I figured it would be okay for backer board. I painted the back of the backer and this is what it looks like... you can see the "patch plaonly. Okay for the back, it will not show. The I turn it over to and notice I have a "Patch" on the front of the backer that will show through the letters on that portion of the place: As you can see it is right where I least want it: I do not want to have to rebuild the whole backer, they are not fun to make. There is no easy way to just replace that one piece of the backer, it is glued and tacked in place. Any suggestion on how to hide this "patch"? Would it help to cover with a coat of varnish or something as an undercoat? I an really have problems finding decent 1/8" BB anymore locally. I seems to all have patches and knots. I went through a whole stack to find the piece I bought and then I catch a patch right were I least want it.
  19. Philip, those are some beautiful scrolling pieces. Looks like you know you way around a scroll saw. Glad to read that the King is a good saw. I was a skeptic, I will admit, and sounds like I was wrong. That is a good thing. The more saws to chose from the better and competition is good.
  20. Those are very nice.
  21. Really looks great! Nice job all the way around!
  22. Have mine set up so when I click it in my "Tool Bar Bookmarks" it go does the "Unread Content" search and only brings up the posts that have been made since my last visit. I also click the "Mark Site Read" button so I get a fresh start each time I open the site.
  23. Glad to have you join us Erv. Is Erv short for Ervin. That was my fathers name. No very common in the U.S.
  24. Good to hear. I wish I had the where-with-all to drag myself out of the shop and do some things around the house that need doing...... My wife is getting upset with me,,,,,, again.
