  1. I'll get through it. Gotta pay off my Fein dust extractor! I really don't mind the cutting but the way I like to mount this one it takes a lot of steps to do. Lot of finish work. It is 5 separate pieces with 5 separate backers and them they all have to fit together..Just a pain. Thanks for the nice comments encouragement. I have got to get busy.
  2. When I want a more aggressive cut, which is rare, I just switch to a more aggressive blade....
  3. I just received another request for a "2nd Amendment" plaque for $125. This will be the third one I have sold, fourth one I have made. I also received a request to make one and donate it to an upcoming "Friends of the NRA" banquet for their auction. That could bring in more sales. It's a high for the money, but a low because I really didn't want to make anymore of them.
  4. Very well done!
  5. Just another thought, that well, I just thought,,,, I have found that sometime, well most often, you can purchase 2- 6" wide pieces or 2 - 4" wide much cheaper than one 8" or 10". I normally go the 2 pieces and do a glue up. Yep, I am cheap.... And if you insist on 1/4" thickness, I think a glue up is required. The 1/4" pieces I have, I will have to cut them into narrower strips and glue them up because of the amount they have cupped. I am first going to heat one side to see I I can "un-cup" them.
  6. Ocooch Hardwoods and Heritage Woods sell nice stuff. However my experience has been., 1/2" thick is fine, any thing thinner cups. Has happen with every piece I have purchase from Ocooch Hardwoods. I have not purchased from Haritage. You may be able to "un-cup" it, I have not tried yet. I think you would be better with a glue up, alternating the grains. Just my opinion, I am no wood expert. I just know I have several 1/4" pieces of wood I have to figure out what to do with. I will not buy less than 1/2" in the future and then plane it to the thickness I want. Not ranking on Ocooch. They have a great reputation. Just stating my experience.
  7. Very well done. I love the way you make the base, not something it is just standing on but part of the scene. Probably doen't make sense, but I know what I mean.
  8. I think these are really neat and they seem to be very popular. Kinda like mini-Schwibbogens. A person could make all kinds of scenes to put into them. You did a great job.
  9. You have some of everything! Very nice pieces. Took me a while sitting here to see it all.
  10. I really love seeing you work. Thanks for showing. This on is beautiful as are your others.
  11. You have a great imagination. Always seem to come up with something simple, unique and awesome!
  12. I completed this today. This is one I have wanted to do for a long long time. Them, my son requested it, and he has done a lot for me and has been a big supporter of my scrolling, so I decided I had to do it for him. Here is the rub. Kinda like the recent thread on "High" and "Low" of scrolling. The "low is, there are only a few patterns for this picture. I ordered what I though was the "best" of the ones offered. When I received the pattern I was,,, let down. It just didn't look all that great to me. But I was committed so I decided to cut it anyway. The "high" today I finished cutting and removed the pattern/tape from the wood, and I am very happy with how it turned out.. It looks more detailed than the pattern looked like it would. I want to finish cleaning it up, put a finish on and make a backer and frame it. I only hope I can frame it like I want. I am not great at framing pictures. "The Last Supper" 24" long x 8" high. Cut in 1/4" Maple. Used 3/0 FD new spiral blade,
  13. That is beautiful!
  14. I have a branding iron, however is it too big for a lot of things. Doesn't work good on painted items. I have "branded" veneer, cut it to size and epoxied it to some painted items. I have also signed a piece of paper. faxed to my computer and save it. I can print it on decal paper, attach it to a piece and cover it with finish. That works pretty well. But, most often I use a fine sharpie.
  15. Thanks for sharing the video. Yes a real craftsman and great music to go with it. I purchased a real nice book on making them years ago. I still dream about trying one, but not sure I have the patience anymore. Anyone that uses scrappers, draw knifes. planes and other hand tools, knows the great feeling they give. I got into the Cigar Box Guitar making craze for a while, and got a slight feel for it, and really enjoyed the building. Not a Craftsman like in the video but did get to do some of the steps and use the hand tool on the neck and such.
  16. You did a great job on this piece. Hard to tell the size, how tall is she?
  17. Is it plywood? There is Russian Baltic Birch plywood which I think is some of the best Baltic Birch plywood.
  18. Told you I would be back: High: getting to join Scroll Saw Village and meeting all the fine scrollers Low: Not knowing my wife is standing behind me when I wrote my last response to this thread!!! I may be gone a while.... Just kidding...
  19. "my wife is interested in the hobby" hummm, you should have ordered 2!

That is some very nice scrolling. Very clean.
  21. High: Lawson is correct, the peace and quiet of my workshop Low: "PAUL, WILL YOU BRING ME SOMETHING OUT OF THE FREEZER!!" "PAUL, WILL YOU SEE IF THE CLOTHES ARE DRY IN THE DRYER AND BRING THEM TO ME!!!" "PAUL, WHAT SHALL WE HAVE FOR DINNER!!!!" well you know what I mean.....
  22. High, cutting a detail fret work, removing the pattern and getting the first real look at what you accomplished. Low, having to clean the fuzzies and applying finish. low, making a frame for the picture. High, giving away a finished piece to someone that really appreciates it. Low, what to do with all these finished pieces. Running out of room. Note, on one hand I feel excited to finish cutting a detailed picture, yet there is a sadness, because I enjoyed the cutting and me and the piece have spent considerable time together at the scroll saw, now it is over... I'll think of more, I'll be back.
  23. I love that. Beautiful. I think about learning how to do the pine needle thing each fall when I rake up a huge pile of pine needles from under my pine tree. Never do it but I think about it.
  24. They all look real nice. Put me in the walnut fan category, I also love English Walnut wood. Same nice grain, a little lighter color.
