Scott, sorry I can't suggest anything to help, I have not done similar cutting on a scroll saw, so I know nothing. But I would like to welcome you to the forum and hope you get the help you need. I am sure you well, lots of knowledge here on all aspects of scrolling. -
Great save again, Dave. You'd save some time just start doing your saves on the first go around. I would not have your imagination and probably start over.

My wife is only interested if it is something to do with quilting. But then, I am only interested if it is scrolling. You did a great job scrolling that.

Cynbone, this a pretty old thread and Bendita has not posted for some time. I have been missing him and his awesome work. I know he has visited here fairly recently, maybe you asking will encourage him to join in again. I really hope all is well with him.

Oh, no, I just got cancelled. Dick's family is coming to his house for the week end. I can not compete with grandsons. But we only live about 90+ miles apart, we will do it another time. Another carving get together in June, if not sooner.

Yep, I'm excited. Just hope Dick isn't to disappointed in my little work shop, but it is what it is and I spend a lot of time playing around in it. You say, why a carver shop, well any kind of wood related show it a treat in our neck of U.S. and the times I have been to this show there have been some intarsia and scrolling to see. The carving always puts me in awe. I love to see it. I think we will have a great time.

Those are really nice. I made several mini birdhouses when I was doing the lathe thing, maybe it is time to add to my tree with scrolled ones.....

You know that nut for the counterweight is probably left handed, Turn right to loosen. Least on my Ex. it is. But a well used 10 year old saw, not sure I'd spend $260 on it. I don't know if you can get a motor but if so it would probably be worth installing it yourself.

When I wear one I wear the single filter Resp-O-Rator, model 100. Works great for bearded peoples, men or women. Only down side is you can't sing while using it.

I use posterboard. Spray the back of the picture and lay the posterboard on it. Cut the posterboard the size of the wood the picture is scrolled in.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you joined us. If you look through the "Pattern Library" here you will find a few owl patterns. I think in "Animals" section is an owl.

I wrap the edges with blue painters tape and a couple two or three brad nails in waste areas in the pattern.

Dennis, welcome to the forum. I am anxious to see how you pipe making turns out. I use to be a pipe smoker, still do once in a great while when camping. I would have thought band saw for cutting "brair" type woods, but I think a scroll saw could do it. I don't do any where near that type of scrolling, but I would think you would want the larger stiffer blades, like #7 or #9 and a few #5 thrown in for the sharper curves. I don't know what type of teeth to recommend. There is a site called Mike's Workshop that sales Flying Dutchman Blades, which is one of the more respected blades on this forum. There is also some good articles on the site for blade selection. Olson blades are also a good choice. The one you buy at Sear, Home Depot, that kind of stores are disappointing, and will discourage you quickly. Other will chime in here on blades that have experience in cutting the thicker woods.
