  1. Kevin, can you tell or show the furnace filter you are using. When I bought my filter(s) I bought a 4 pack of really cheapo filters for under $5. I used them all at once with a bungee cord holding them in place. They caught a ton of dust but I had to be very careful or if I bumped the fan, the dust would all fall out on the floor. I'm going to upgrade my filter and thought I'd ask you.
  2. There are many things on a Hegner saw, any saw for that matter, that come into play. The $250 is a good price if it is clean and operates as it should. Not sure of the electrical on it but if it has the "soft start" and variable speed control, make sure all of that works as it should. It's an expensive fix if not. It probably hasn't been updated with the tension release lever and the blade clamp knob. I bought a saw somewhere in that vintage and it was a good saw. I paid $300 for it with stand and all of the upgrades.
  3. Very nice. I wanted to make a big Grinch for our front porch but I couldn't find a pattern anywhere. I figured it must be licensed.
  4. I can't pull the name out of my gray matter but I think there is an after market blade holder that might fit it. Someone here will chime in soon I'm sure.
  5. Mine didn't have the removable plate but I never found any problem with that. The old fix is to tape a playing card over the hole to get a zero clearance cutting area.
  6. Kevin, I was running into that same problem until I remembered that you are supposed to tighten the chuck on all 3 positions. I loosely tighten my chuck on the first hole, a bit more on the second hole and real tight on the 3rd hole and my chuck doesn't wobble when I do it that way.
  7. I have looked at that one off and on. I'll keep my eyes open for a used one. I seem to get lucky on used tools if I'm patient.
  8. Since I live in a home that is 1600 square feet, this shop is larger than my abode. For sure it's a great example of what money can buy. But, I'll bet that most all of us are just as happy with what we have now. Sure, I'd love to have some more space but I'm very content in knowing that I'm far better off than many.
  9. Thanks, that will probably have to be what I do if I can't figure out a way to tighten this gooseneck up. There has to be a way. Maybe a little light tapping with a center punch will help. I'll try to save this thing if I can.
  10. Dan I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. It's not loose on the mount. It's the flex neck that has lost its grip. I'm thinking of gently crushing a few sections to increase the friction. If that doesn't work I might try replacing it with some LocLine.
  11. Thanks Dan, I've not seen those but I will check them out. I am one of those weird people who have to exhaust all possible avenues to repair something. I'll keep you updated on what I find.
  12. I recently bought a used Delta bench top drill press that goes by the number DP300. It has an integral flexible light that protrudes from the left side of the drill head. Over the years, from usage, it has become what I would call "loose" for lack of a better description. Anybody who has a Dewalt scroll saw with the factory light will know what I mean. Anyway, I can't make the light stay where I need it anymore because of the weight of the light head and the fact that the flexible holder has worn out. My question is, have any of you more astute folks figured out a way to tighten that holder arm up? I've looked at it but I can't come up with a way to fix it. Other than maybe fill it full of epoxy and that would render it immovable. I'd sure appreciate any ideas. Thanks.
  13. Another thing to keep in mind. I'm not sure about this but it seems that some of the planers replacement blades are only single sided. On my Delta, when I bought it, it had a nick on one of the blades and they were pretty dull. I flipped them over and had a whole new cutting surface. That saved my having to buy a new set.
  14. If you were not so far away, I'd be interested in it to put on my Ex 16 to enlarge the working surface. Just a thought as it would be far too expensive to ship.
  15. I have watched a few videos on youtube and they are using a combo Jet joiner/planer that looks really interesting for the small shop. I've got a Delta that seems to work fine but I don't use it much but I hope to in the future. As for a joiner, I've got a Makita portable planer that I have been toying with turning it into a joiner. I am also going to try to do some joining on my cheapo table saw with a good blade. There's a couple of good videos on that subject too.
  16. Whatever you decide to do, it sure sounds like a very messy job to me and could turn into a real fiasco. Best of luck my Friend.
  17. As accurate as you want it to be. It's mostly in the operator more than the saw. If you stick with one of the top names, not the entry level saws, you'll be fine. I turn the speed down on mine occasionally but most of the time I leave it about 2/3 throttle. The key word here, no matter what saw you decide on, is PRACTICE! Don't jump in and think you'll be an expert right off. Get some thin plywood and just scribble some patterns on that and cut away. Lot's of "how to" videos on youtube.
  18. I sold my Hegner after encountering speed problems. It was older than that one, had a light, foot pedal and stand with everything else. I got $700 for it so that one would be comparable at a better price. Be sure to check out any Hegner before you buy it though. Make sure the "soft-start" and speed control work the way they should or it becomes an expensive fix.
  19. Very nice job. Go Florida!
  20. Both are beautiful. Normally I prefer unpainted but in this case I'd have tough time deciding.
  21. Dan, I need to be able to size it to fit the paper and to make sure that the little pieces are sized proportionally once I get the bowl to the size I need it. I'm not sure what would print from the download. And......I need to learn Inkscape at some point. So far, I have not successfully done anything that I have set out to do. I have a mental block or something.
  22. I totally understand Paul. I wish my Hegner would have worked out. I am constantly on the lookout for another one. But in the meantime, I've got the Ex's to satisfy my needs. I'll come across another Hegner someday.
  23. Excellent! I love boxes, bowls and baskets.
  24. I am going to butt in here and also ask a question but on another subject. I have a picture that I downloaded from Pinterest. I saved it as a jpeg and also as a pdf. I want to break the picture down into pieces so that I can print only what I need. Is there anybody who will work with me on how to do it? Either here on SSV or in a private atmosphere? Here is the picture I want to break apart. I want to "size" the circular portion to be 8.5" in diameter and I need to be able to size the small pieces so that they will match up in size proportionally. It is a spiral cut bowl but the pattern is for a CNC.
