  1. Exactly!
  2. You may have gone too far in the wrong direction. What I did was to mark the holes where I started. Then I removed the 3 bolts and moved the motor in each direction until I got what I thought was going to be the optimum. I never got it all out but it is as close as it could be. I know what you mean about the power cord. That is what made me try what I finally did.
  3. I had to look to see what you see. Yes, I see it. But, to me, it'll always be a goofy ostrich head.
  4. When the upper arm is raised, at the rear of the main frame there is a round "boss" that is cast into it. The arm is stopped from raising further by that "boss". By removing it the arm is not constrained from rising to it's fullest. Makes for a lot more room under the arm.
  5. Thanks, that's exactly what I thought too. I may end up building my own 2 sided one. I have a router table and a oscillating spindle sander that would be nice to have out.
  6. Hey @Trackman, a quick question. And I don't want to hijack the thread but I'm curious. I see you have that Sears rotating table. I've been watching one on C/L for over a year. They guy has 3 tools mounted to it. None of them very great ones. He's been trying to get $500 for the whole thing. I contacted him and asked if he would consider parting it out and selling me just the table. He came back with yes, and he wants $375 for just the table. I thought that was a bit on the high side. But, I'd think about it if I got enough positive feedback from others who have them. What is your opinion of it, and how much is it worth to you? Would you spend $375 for another one? It might serve my purposes in my small area for 3 of my bench top tools to be more usable. Thanks for your input.
  7. Gary, don't be shy. Post those pics. If anything you'll get feedback on how others might have done the same project or ideas on how you could have improved yours. Or maybe even you'll be the guy whose is the best. Just post the pics and let us have a peek. Just remember, it's a hobby, it's supposed to be fun and we are all in the same boat. Just some of us have been bailing for a lot longer to keep the boat afloat. Jump in, the water's fine.
  8. I'd give Ray a try at Seyco.com. He used to be the guy to go to before he brought out his own saw. But he still has all the knowledge and most parts.
  9. Al, I'd make a note of this post for future gens to view it. All good info.
  10. So it was you that did that mod? Ok, I get it. After thinking about it, I realized that with the lower clamp as it is on Hegner, you wouldn't be able to top feed anyway. If/when I ever get another Hegner, I'll do what you did. Thanks for the clarification.
  11. Thanks Garyrenee, and welcome to The Village. Don't be a stranger. Post pics of your projects. We all love pics. I'll have to look into what you suggested. Not that I can afford one but I'm curious.
  12. I would if it were mine.
  13. You're right. I hate the stuff.
  14. For the size drill bits that most of us use, run your drill press as fast as it will go. High speed means high speed. The only time that the speed really matters is when you are drilling metal. Or very thick and very hard wood. At least that's how I was taught.
  15. I bought some cutoff's at H/D once that were 1/2" and 3/4". In fact, I'm using the 1/2" for a sled on my bandsaw. The 3/4" was so heavy, I ended up giving it away.
  16. This is the most unique piece of wood that I have ever seen. I'd love to have been the person who found it. I'd have made something frameable out of it. Or resawn it to have more than one piece.
  17. I like that suggestion. Try to use it in some way that the "star" becomes part of the message of whatever you make. A "Star of Bethlehem" ornament or something like that. Great piece of wood.
  18. Considering that I have a very small shop and try to do most of my sanding outdoors, what size do you recommend for a box? I was thinking maybe 20 x 20 similar to a box fan. What size is yours?
  19. I think the one change I'd make to the Hegner is one that CharleyL made to his. If I recall correctly. He sawed off the boss that stops the upper arm from lifting all the way. I'd maybe take it off a little at a time though to see at what point it let the arm rise to make it easy to top feed. I don't know if it's necessary to actually remove the entire boss.
  20. Well, if money was no object, the first thing I'd do is buy a house with a real shop. Then I'd load it up with all the best woodworking tools. Once all that was done, I'd buy one each of all the best scroll saws just to have them . I'd like to have another Hegner. I liked the one I had with the exception of the motor/soft start issue. I love my EX21. I haven't had the EX16 long enough to really try it out but so far so good. I'm sort of glad the money is an issue though. I think if it was too easy to buy stuff, I'd never appreciate having anything. This way, I cherish everything I have.
  21. I'm half German but you know what I mean.
  22. Damn! You do nice work! I'm envious of your abilities. Fantastic!
  23. I recall now, the problem was finding it in the dimensions I needed to make Carole Rothman's bowl. Nobody seemed to have it wide enough. I ended up using mahogany.
  24. I tried to find a source for sapele when I was making something a while back. But, I never found any place that carried it.
