I admit to not being the brightest bulb in the bunch. So, with that said, what exactly is the technique you are referring to? I am not artistic in the least so I'm not picking up on what it is you are talking about. I see a very well done piece but I'm not sure what it is that you are calling "technique". Can you please enlighten me. I am humbled by your work.

I hear ya. I did have to drive about 250 miles round trip to get the Hegner but it was such a good deal, it made it worth the drive. And it was along the ocean so we made a day of it. Oh, and Hi Gary.

Bill, just out of curiosity, what brand, size, type are you using that you are happy with? Or is that a question without an answer?

I'm not sure what to call you but I just wanted to offer this up. I watched Craigslist for a while until the right deal came along on a used Dewalt 788 type 1. I bought it, brought it home and started learning on it. I tuned it every way I could and it was a great saw. I then was watching C/L again and came upon a great deal on a Hegner 18 inch. I bought it and tried it out. There was just something about it that I didn't like so I sold it. For a nice profit. Then, I found a great deal on an Excalibur EX21. Like new. I love that saw. So, I sold my Dewalt. Again for a nice profit. I found a like new Hawk 226VS Ultra for a song. So, what I'm saying is, I now have saws that together retailed for over $2,000 and I'm in them a total of $525 and put about $650 in my pocket. So, really, I'm not in them anything at all. Keep your eyes open for deals. They come and go. You might as well participate.

You have made a wise decision to use the adaptor. Until you come to the realization that you need a better saw that is. I have heard and read that many scrollers who start out with a lower grade of saw become frustrated and quit the hobby. You at least are a person with the "sticktoitiveness" to put up with the problems associated with your saw. Once you do move up to a better saw, you will have overcome all the pitfalls that stopped others. Congrats.

I realized or thought I did, that the spiral blades would allow you to cut from all directions without having to spin your wood. BUT now I find out that you still have to watch what direction you push/pull your work through the blade. I think I'll just stick with my goto flat blades and leave the spirals for those who like them.

Well, I realize the samples are there for the taking but since I'm not going to be buying any flooring, I didn't feel right by taking any of them. Lots to choose from though. Maybe just a couple?

When I was at H/D the other day I saw, in the flooring section, they have 4" square floor samples free for the taking. I didn't take any but the thought of scrolling them DID enter my mind.

Mike's Workshop or Wooden Teddy Bear both carry them. I think they are the only sources for Flying Dutchman. But, Niqua is the same blade if you want to shop around.

Very nice Wichman. I would have to think that with a better saw your work now must be magnificent. Just goes to show that it's the craftsman and not his tools that make the difference.

Well, I suppose you could use a small brad but most everybody has a safety pin nearby so that's why they are popular I guess. I've never had to use one either.

Don, I extracted to a different folder and when I opened that folder there were 2 files. One was a .ttf and the other .txt. I right clicked on the .ttf and it opened a menu but there was no "install for all users" option. But thanks for trying to help. I'll figure it out. Edit: I went back and started all over and downloaded the font to my desktop. It was in a .zip file. I right clicked on it and told it to extract all and when asked where to put it, I didn't accept the default folder, I told it to just put the files on my desktop. Once done, I did the right click thing and DID find the "install for all users" option. So, all good. Thanks guys.

Have ya ever tried to break a safety pin? They are tough.

Don, when I right click on the file, I don't get the "install for all users" option. Just a plain install. Can you possibly explain what I might be doing wrong? I'm running win 10 and have it set up to share files and printers between all of our computers in our home.

Yes, I found it finally. But, now I'm having the problem of installing it. Irfanview keeps grabbing it and turning it into a picture before I can do the install. I'll have to change the file associations so Irfanview won't grab it.

Just for the heck of it, I went to dafont but I can't find the font you found. Can you offer me some more info? I'd like to see if I can find/download/install it.

Re: pin end blades, I heard of a trick where you remove the pins from the blades allowing for a smaller hole. Then you insert a safety pin through the pin hole after putting the blade through the hole. It sounds like it should work.

If I recall, I had the same problem and was told by someone here that you must reboot to get Inkscape to receive your new font.
