Not to be a know-it-all but I find this sort of amusing. It's really so easy. I have no problem inserting a new blade in my EX. I just put it in the top clamp first. I lower the arm and guide the blade through the table hole and down to where it is in front of the blade clamp. I can feel the blade and it's not difficult to push it into the slot in the clamp. I might have to open the slot up a tad but it's not a big thing. I put the blade into the slot, pull down a bit and close the clamp. Now, I can release the top clamp and go on with my cutting. I don't understand why anybody would have to get down on their knees to do this. I don't think any of these folks are as proficient as they claim to be. JMHO!

The baskets that I have made and shown here are made up of 9 layers of 1/4" solid wood. Top/bottom are stack cut by themselves. Then I cut a stack of 3 and a stack of 4. I use #5 Pegas mgt blades and take my time. So, to answer your question, I guess 1 inch would be the max for me. I've not tried BB plywood yet so I can't comment on that. I've had good luck with poplar, red oak, maple and walnut. It might also depend on what saw you are using. My first attempt was on my Dewalt. Since then I've used my Hawk and my Ex21. All good.

Rolf, my Dad was the plumber. Not me. I'm not familiar with all the fittings. Is your swivel joint a simple PVC union? If not, can you explain what it is and how it works? Is the screw simply there to keep it together? I like the way your system is designed and I want to duplicate it on my Hawk. Thanks for the pics and any added information.

I can see where that would be a good use. So far, I haven't made boxes but in time I might. Maybe if you share your plans I'll make one.

I was wondering what/where you got that hose. I never can find anything like that when I need it. Luckily for me, I'm not on cpap.

Are you going to become a Hegner collector? I had an 18 but I think I would like to have a little one like yours. Unfortunately, they don't offer the quick release for it. Make sure you get a newer one that has that on it. It's an expensive addition.

Les, check C/L on a regular basis for a used Fein. I found mine about 2 years ago. I use it in my shop for my EX and also for just clean up. I gave $185 for it. I tried to get the price down but the guy knew what he had. It came with 16 feet of very nice flexible hose. I'm going to plumb my Hawk one of these days so I can use it there too. It's still noisy but way better than any of the shop vacs I've been around. I also built this for my outside vac. I hook it up to my table saw and my spindle sander. I'm going to make a router table to connect to also. Here is what I copied. I think I posted it once before.

I'm in the camp of why do I need one. I can see a drum sander but this thing is just a mechanized sanding block. I have a piece of Corian tile that was a cutout from our sink when the counter top was installed. It is very flat. And heavy. I use it with a full sheet of paper and it does pretty much what the SandFlee does. For a lot less money. I guess if someone gave me one, I might find it useful but at the price that even used ones are bringing, I'll never know.

As I said, I have 2 thin filters on each side with the air flow in the correct direction. They seem to be doing a great job judging by the build up of dust on the filter. I vacuum them off every once in a while. I think I paid less than $5 for the four filters in 20 x 20 x 1 inch size. Obviously for that price they are nothing to write home about but I figured that when using all four at once, they are doing a pretty decent job.

I run my saw fairly fast but I cut very slowly to avoid "mis-cuts". Especially on 3D compound cuts.

I have two lamps one for each saw. I bought the H/F lamp and I like it. I did the LED upgrade that Kevin did and bought the same bulb that he suggested. It works great. I also bought the $25/free shipping lamp that Rockytime found on eBay and it already had the LED in it. It also works great. I have not found a problem with either one as far as lens quality/power/clarity goes. I wear progressive lens glasses and make sure to get the lamp situated in the right spot before I start cutting. They are adjustable you know.

Pegas Replacement clamps for Old Excalibur Saw

I don't know that there is that much difference in them Kevin. Unless you have an EX that was made in China. Mine was made in Canada and I can't imagine that Pegas has done anything other than the clamps to improve it. I do like the paint job but not enough to spend $700 on it. My saw couldn't be much better since I upgraded the the clamps. I love it. -
Very good Les. Maybe you can come up with some other add-ons for your saw and get rich.

I found a 4 pak of 20x20 cheap filters. I put 2 on each side. I used 2 very long bungee cords that came with the tire covers for our 5th wheel.

Actually Les, it sounds like you are having the same problems moving from your Hawk to your Hegner as I am having switching from my EX to my Hawk. I think I finally have the Hawk figured out. I kept thinking all my blades were too short until I watched the video a couple of times. Then the light came on. But, having the quick clamp will make it a lot easier. Now, if they would just make the quick release for the little one. I'll bet a good machinist could come up with one.
