  1. What a great idea. The painting is fantastic and you made it more so.
  2. I totally understand. I live about an hour's drive on a good day so I just pay the shipping. I try to make my order big enough to warrant the $15 or so for UPS.
  3. I hope you had a good experience with Cherokee since I recommended them. Chris is a great guy and if you have any special requests, he is most accommodating.
  4. Thanks Bill and Jim. I think I'll just lay back and watch for a while. If something piques my interest, I'll add what I have to say but no more of starting a thread. It just doesn't pay. I get the feeling that I rub feathers in the wrong way. I seem to have my best discussions using the Private Message venue.
  5. I had great service from them also. Premier job of packaging. I purchased a box of cutoffs from them and asked if it would be possible to include a list of what they were sending so I could i.d. each species. They went so far as to tag each board. Great company. I use them and Cherokee too. Great service there also.
  6. Let me take this opportunity to apologize for starting this thread. It appears that it was a subject that was just too controversial. I will try to be more discerning from here on. Maybe the "coffee house" is a better spot to hang out.
  7. You have a shop to die for. ENVY!
  8. Well said Paul. If a young had the money and the where withall, it would be wise to purchase the best of everything. But as you pointed out, it would nuts for us to buy the best just to leave it to our kids. But another thing is that you can never stay up with technology. Everything is pretty much obsolete when you buy it.
  9. Nice setup. I bought/installed the Wen air cleaner in my tiny shop. It works great. But...I still wear my dust mask because when I'm cutting I'm right over the work and get a lot of fine dust right in my face. I also have a 20 inch box fan to the right of my saw that collects a lot of the dust that is blown off the work as it is being cut. All I have to do is look at how much dust still collects on the inside of my glasses to know what I would be breathing if not for the mask. My advice....wear your mask. You only get 1 set of lungs. Some of the woods we use are toxic.
  10. Kevin, it sure seems strange to me that some folks seem to be adverse to saving money. I'm sure that there might be a tiny difference between the H/F paper and one of the high end brands but in the end, they do the same thing. I feel the same about the tools too. I'm sure if money was no object, then I guess I might be willing to spend more but for me, it's all about what gets the job done.
  11. Well, I buy the paper from H/F also, so I don't know if it is the same as any other brand. It looks to be but without buying paper to find out, I can't say. And, once the dust catcher is removed, it looks like it would be an easy hook up. I didn't try it because I don't want a hose getting in the way. I like it just the way it is.
  12. I used to sell those when I was still on the truck.
  13. How did you know that you needed to have them replaced Les? My knees give me problems but I would surmise that they would have to be a lot worse before I'd need them done.
  14. I was on FB a couple of weeks ago and this popup came up. An outfit by the name of Tophatter.com and they showed a pic of this for $6.47 including shipping. No tax. I had to wait the 2 weeks but it came yesterday. I figured I could wager that amount to see if it was any good. I'm very surprised at the quality. Another addition to my Dremel stuff.
  15. Well, glad you're back. Sorry to see ya go. Hope you heal quickly. Summer is no time to be laid up. Be safe!
  16. Here's your chance to get one of these sanders while on sale.
  17. It would have a better comparison to have done two of the same cut. Hard to tell other than the color. I can certainly see the grain on the plywood in the lower one but not in the upper. The color appears the same.
  18. Neat idea.
  19. I noticed a couple of saws on C/L today that looked like they were made by Hawk but had a different name and color. https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/tls/d/san-diego-scroll-saw/6920336404.html
  20. Well, I still have many of my old contacts but most of it was for mechanical tools. BUT, my son is now in the business up in Colorado Springs. So, I guess I still have my foot in it vicariously. If you know anybody who wants to by their own boss, tell them to PM me. It's a great way to make a living and call your own shots. I highly recommend it.
  21. Did you miss the word "retired"?
  22. Very nice job. My mother when she passed was in the middle of one of her many quilts. We had a garage sale and a lady saw it and wanted to know how much we were asking. I told her that if she promised me that she would finish it, she could have it for free. She promised but I failed to stay in contact with her. But, in my mind, I know she finished it.
  23. Looks like something that Russia might use to send up in space. They pretty much "junk" stuff together.
  24. Dan, that is exactly what I want to do from now on. My problem is space. I will have to leave them stickered outdoors. No room in my shop and we don't have a garage. I will have to cut some stickers slats like you have done. Great idea. I did have some luck recently with two pieces of red oak that had cupped on me. I laid them on my bench with the cup side up and sprayed them with a pretty good bit of water and let it soak in. Then, I put them with the opposing cupped sides facing each other and clamped them to my work bench. I let them sit that way for a couple of days and they came out flat and dry. I stood them upright in a corner and hope they don't return to being cupped again. So far, so good.
  25. I don't have anything that valuable Kevin. We be po folks.
