By any chance do you have some of those Pegas blades that had the notch cut in them at the top? There are still thousands of them out there. I had some breakage too but then I learned that if I clamped the blades higher with the notch right under the clamp screw, no more breakage and there was still enough reverse teeth at the bottom that I got a clean underside cut.

I don't think there are any saw mills left in California. They have been deemed "environmentally" undesirable.

Here where I live, there are 35 million people so there are a lot of lookers/buyers for almost anything. Too bad those Ex's aren't down here. There's a 30 inch one on C/L here that has been listed for a month at $875. Cold day in Hell.

Well, if you are anything like me, I can't pass up a deal and if it's something that I know I can make a few bucks on, what the heck, why not? As long as the bills are paid and there is food on the table, go for it.

Does it include a stand? That in itself is work another hundred. The big thing that I think would bother me, and it's just me, I don't think that saw has variable speed. I think it has a belt that is used to change speeds. But, if you want to play around with a Hegner, not a bad price. I'd have to at least go check it out. Is it close to you?

I always look to see what isn't there. Because to make it up to current specs, it costs a lot of money. But with that said, for $100 you could take a chance on it. You'll get a lot of scrolling out of it if the motor is still good. I did a lot of studying and questions before I bought the one I did. The lever near you for tensioning is the big thing. Otherwise, all the tensioning is done at the rear of the saw away from you. But, a little 14 inch saw isn't that bad. I've been watching one near me that has come down to$280 and I thought about offering him a $100 but then, I thought, why do I need another saw. Especially one that I would have to spend at least $300 to get it to where it should be. I paid $300 for the one I had and it had all the updates and the factory stand. I turned it for $700 after playing with it for a while. Charley L is the person to ask. He gave me a lot of info on the Hegs. Kevin, what Weldbond do you use? I was just looking at Amazon and they show many different types and sizes. Is there one that is specifically for wood?

Kevin, I had the exact same experience. But, in reverse. I was used to using Pegas #5 blades and for some unknown reason, I decided to try some FD blades. All of a sudden I couldn't keep them going straight. I had to really push to one side to stay on the line. I love me some PEGAS!

That's great. You bought a great saw and got to see some nice scenery. If you have never used a Hawk, take the time to visit Bushton Mfg. website and view the "getting started" video. Especially how to adjust the tension. If not done right you'll swear that your blades are all too short. Don't ask me how I know that.

After reading your suggestion of letting it cure for a few minutes, I gave it a try and you are right. It is still tacky enough to stick without much mess. And the thinner the coat the better. I have an almost full can of 3M77 sitting on the shelf but I found a small can of Elmer's spray glue that my wife had bought for something. I gave it a try and it is so much easier to work with because it's a small lightweight can and it just seems as tacky. Much cheaper too. Actually, I have tried all the different ways that have been suggested here on SSV and I like the shelf paper a lot but the shipping labels are the best. For me anyway. A pack of 100 on Amazon was about $8 and I don't use too many of the large size patterns or I try to re-position my smaller patterns and print them all on one label sheet. It takes some messing around with Word but once done, I save it and can come back and do it again if necessary.

I don't know how it might differ from using the shipping labels but I run them through my laser printer with no problem. Maybe I'll get brave and try the shelf liner and see if the heat from the laser causes any problems.

Yes, I'm very happy. Now I have to get busy on some sort of wood organization.

Rj, it's time for you to start a scrolling group or club or??? Is there a Woodcraft store anywhere near you? How about a high school that still has a shop class? Senior center?

Hi to all who live on the Western side of the Mississippi River. I made up an order of woods that I needed and submitted it to Cherokee Wood Products a couple of days ago. I decided to make the 2 hour round trip to go see the operation and actually meet Chris. I'm sure glad I did. He is a great young man and it was a pleasure to meet him. He showed me around the entire yard. They have been there for 25 years and it's a great place. Lots to see. Anyway, for making the trip out there, he gifted me some of the stuff that they can't sell. I came home with a load of great wood. They also have boxes of cutoffs that they sell. I highly recommend that you folks give them a try. And if you do, take the time to try to get hold of Chris and give him your order. Especially if you need any custom milling. I needed a piece of walnut in 3/8" thickness. They don't offer it but they milled it for me for a minimal charge. I now have enough wood that I won't need to go back for a good while but when the time comes, I'll be hot-footing it back out there once again. Cherokeewood.com
