As I said, I have 2 thin filters on each side with the air flow in the correct direction. They seem to be doing a great job judging by the build up of dust on the filter. I vacuum them off every once in a while. I think I paid less than $5 for the four filters in 20 x 20 x 1 inch size. Obviously for that price they are nothing to write home about but I figured that when using all four at once, they are doing a pretty decent job.

I run my saw fairly fast but I cut very slowly to avoid "mis-cuts". Especially on 3D compound cuts.

I have two lamps one for each saw. I bought the H/F lamp and I like it. I did the LED upgrade that Kevin did and bought the same bulb that he suggested. It works great. I also bought the $25/free shipping lamp that Rockytime found on eBay and it already had the LED in it. It also works great. I have not found a problem with either one as far as lens quality/power/clarity goes. I wear progressive lens glasses and make sure to get the lamp situated in the right spot before I start cutting. They are adjustable you know.

Pegas Replacement clamps for Old Excalibur Saw

I don't know that there is that much difference in them Kevin. Unless you have an EX that was made in China. Mine was made in Canada and I can't imagine that Pegas has done anything other than the clamps to improve it. I do like the paint job but not enough to spend $700 on it. My saw couldn't be much better since I upgraded the the clamps. I love it. -
Very good Les. Maybe you can come up with some other add-ons for your saw and get rich.

I found a 4 pak of 20x20 cheap filters. I put 2 on each side. I used 2 very long bungee cords that came with the tire covers for our 5th wheel.

Actually Les, it sounds like you are having the same problems moving from your Hawk to your Hegner as I am having switching from my EX to my Hawk. I think I finally have the Hawk figured out. I kept thinking all my blades were too short until I watched the video a couple of times. Then the light came on. But, having the quick clamp will make it a lot easier. Now, if they would just make the quick release for the little one. I'll bet a good machinist could come up with one.

It's rapidly becoming a $200 saw. Still not bad. I can still get the one nearby me for $200 but it has no stand. You got a great deal.

Well, if you are wondering about my comment, we are under the total control of a repressive nanny-state government that tells us what we can have and what we can't have. We are allowed to have smelly old paint thinner but for some unknown reason we aren't allowed to have to more refined and almost odorless mineral spirits. Go figure!

Danny, no matter what method you use, using a heat gun will make it easy to remove the tape/pattern. I can't buy mineral spirits here in the "People's Republic of California" so I covet the quart can that I have. So, I always use heat to remove my patterns.

You would know that. I had to spend $20 on one. Oh well, I got it all back when I sold it. I'm keeping an eye on the one that is here locally. It has a stand and is also variable speed but I just can't justify $200 for something that I don't need. I just want it. Maybe next week if it is still available.

Well, you were probably going to spend the lunch money anyway so all I'm responsible for is the tension lever assy. And you know you need it. I take it you got blade clamps and a clamp wrench with the saw?

That's great. Did you get any extra blade clamps and the tightening wrench? Also, did you see what I said about the variable speed? I can't believe they stopped putting that on the new saws. Anyway, enjoy your new toy. I know you'll love it. I liked the one I had except for the speed problem. I'll be looking for another one. Maybe just like yours. There is one near me that I can get for $200 but that's more than I want to pay.

That's great info Bill. Thanks. That might explain some of his emails that we went back and forth over. He and I spoke about the absence of woodworking shows here on the West Coast. He was at a show in Las Vegas at the time. He mentioned that he was seeing quite a few folks from California at the show. He had already taken 2 orders for Pegas bandsaws that would be shipped to Cal.

Hey Les, I got curious about the Hegner 14" saws so I took a trip to the Advanced Machinery website to look at them. I'm surprised to find out that the new ones are single speed. You did say yours was variable speed, correct? Also, I don't know how far you got with their site as to reading about the new saws as compared to the old ones but I found this updated tension lever/device that is retrofittable to your older saw. Just food for thought for when you get to making your new tension parts.

Just a quick note to update. I emailed again to the email address that was supplied here and got an almost immediate reply from the Grobet sales manager Bob Duncan. In less than a week, I received a gross of blades yesterday to replace the 11 dozen I still have left of the defective blades. I'm a happier camper and will continue to use Pegas products. Great/fast customer service.

Well, now you have me looking for a tiny Hegner. We have a window that needs something. If I come across one, I'll snatch it up. Good luck with yours. Lots of info and help if you need it at Advanced Machinery. Wolfgang is very responsive if you email him with questions. Parts are readily available too. Expensive though.
