Well it does sound like you know what you are doing. I guess I'm happy that I'm not Canadian when it comes to that sort of thing. We do have it pretty good down here. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Best of luck and happy scrolling. Eventually!

I would at least check eBay. That's just too much to fix a Dewalt.

I realize that you are in Canada and things are very different there but that sure seems like a lot of money to repair a saw that can be purchased brand new for about $400 here in the states. Are you anywhere near the U.S. border? I think I might order a new one from Grizzly and have it shipped to a General Delivery post office in the closest U.S. town to you. Or something along that order.

I saw that pattern the other day too and was thinking of cutting it. You did a great job on it.

Other than trying to count the teeth or using a micrometer to measure the blade thickness, I don't see any way. But, what you have are a bunch of "practice" blades. Give them all a try on different woods. You'll get to where you understand what each type of blade does and what it's designed for. Most of us here use either Flying Dutchman, Olsen, or Pegas blades of one type or another. Blades are probably the biggest mystery to the hobby of scrolling. Takes time to figure it out but you will if you stick with it. Welcome to the Village. Lots of great info here.

Are you breathing more through your mouth instead of your nose? Probably just picking up the moisture out of your mouth breathing.

What blade are you using? Just wondering, if it's the UR blade that may be lifting your patterns. How about trying a non reverse blade or a blade that only has the reverse teeth on the under side?

That too. But I can see the results in my shop. Not so much with my lungs. Only time will tell with them.

Well, I'm not the best person to be giving advice but if it were me, I'd just jump in and go for it. What the heck, if nothing else, it's practice. And that is what this is all about isn't it? Not like you only have one copy of the pattern. The stuff that I have done so far was way out of my league or comfort zone but I wanted to do it so I did. Sure, I know what the flaws are but most folks don't see them. And on the next one, I'll do better. And so on. Just do it! -
Mine works great. My shop is much cleaner now.

Many years ago, when we were living in Colorado Springs, Barb and I owned a Hallmark store. When we bought it, part of the inventory were some wooden candle holders that a guy was making on his lathe and putting them in the store on consignment. They were already priced when we took over and didn't realize that they were a consigned item. We got screwed on the deal because we sold them after paying for them in the inventory. Then one day, the guy comes in and wants his money after seeing that they were all gone. We felt bad enough about it that we paid him what he was due and just ate it. Anyway, if you go that route, make sure you have some sort of an agreement in writing and check your inventory on a timely basis. The folks we bought the store from turned out be real crooks and everybody around town knew it except us. Oh well..................

But, you know how to fix clocks. I have a wall clock that we bought for our anniversary many years ago. I can't remember which one. It's a good clock but it stopped working and I know it just needs cleaning and lubing and whatever other feats of magic a clock person would perform. Unfortunately, we have it stored out in my shop, way up high on a shelf. Nobody around here that does than work anymore. SAD! I wish you were closer. I'd pay you to fix it. I'd love to give it to one of our kids.

Be careful with Hegners. They have had a lot upgrades over the years. They are a great saw if you can find one with the latest additions. Take your time and read as much as you can on all the saws. There are really only 6-8 brands worth buying if you are serious about the hobby.

Thank you all for your kind words. As to making a second one, I have already had that thought as I look at this one and see the flaws and the places that I could improve on it. Since I started this one, I have added a laser printer to my office and I am getting much better scans and printouts of my patterns so the next one will be far better. My patterns all printed out on the old inkjet with blurry lines and some of the joints were a bit loose. The next one will be much better. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. That's why it takes me so long to get things finished. I also want to try a different mix of woods. I like contrast and to me, this one is too much the same color. Thanks again everybody, you make it all worthwhile.

Welcome to the best scroll saw group on the planet. Bar none. Every question will get an answer in time. I have become interested in the Eclipse scroll saw too. Since they are rare, I'm on the hunt. I don't need one but I love the search.
