Kevin, when you make ornaments like the one pictured, I know you stack cut them but using 1/8" BB, how many do you stack at a time? I've only stack cut once and it was with 1/4" poplar. Mine came out great but I was just wondering about yours. Thanks for any info.

Brad, there is no shortage of books and patterns out there. I have seen quite a few. Lot's of great videos too. I posted the questions because I had never seen anything mentioned here on SSV. l figured that there had to be some folks who had given it a try. A while back I also ran across a great website and videos done by a guy up in Canada. He is a genius. His name is Matthias Wandel and his website is Woodgears.ca. I think I have watched every video he has produced. He makes a lot of his power tools out of wood.

Learning how to properly set up the saw is where I would begin. There are videos at the Hawk/Bushton site that explain a lot. I'd start there. More than likely it's mostly adjustments that are the problem. Just knowing how to set the tension on a Hawk is very important. There are a few folks here who are pretty much experts and will gladly help you. If you can post a couple of pics and maybe a video it will help immensely.

If you like that type of mechanism, check out Excalibur, King, Seyco and Jet. They all use pretty much the same geometry.

There are some great videos on youtube of things that do something. I like stuff like that. I'm not into all the wall hangers but that's what made Baskin Robbins rich. Something for everybody. Les, let me know which books you bought and what you think of them.

After I get done making a couple of Christmas gifts, I want to try my hand at making a wooden gear clock or something that does something. I'm going to buy a book for ideas but I thought I'd ask here if anybody is into that kind of stuff. I find it fascinating.

Well, in my way of thinking, that is something to dicker over. "I'll buy your saw, pay your price but I want the bigger motor". All they can do is say yes or no. I just got through selling something on C/L for my wife. I set my price. The prospective buyer said they would pay my price if I would consider delivering it about 25 miles away. I had already asked an inflated price figuring that I could come down but for that offer, we delivered it this morning. Everybody is happy.

I'm very surprised that for that kind of money, it's only got a 1.75 hp motor. I paid less for my Unisaw and it came with a 3 hp. I know that the SS saws are more expensive but why would they shortchange you on power.

Yes, I'm a member of all those groups but I only go there to see whatever notification I receive about what someone has cut. I don't spend time on any of those groups like I do here. Thanks. I'll check them out a bit further.

Thanks Kevin. I have seen/heard/read of many folks putting the Pegas clamps on their Dewalts but not the ones made to go on the EX/Seyco/Jet saws. I watched Steve's video when he put them on his Dewalt but he didn't say for sure they would work and it was before the actual Dewalt/Pegas clamps were available.

I'm still waiting to hear if anybody has put the Pegas/EX clamps on a Dewalt saw. I think if they work, it would be far easier to use that having to "spin" the Dewalt tension lever. I saw that Steve Good put a set on his Dewalt but put a disclaimer on it that he wasn't sure how they were going to work out in the long run. I've not heard/read anything since then.

You are so right Stoney. I can't believe how this aluminum bracket just shattered. After watching a video and hearing that others have had the same problem I guess it's a common thing with these saws. If I had access to a mill, I'd make my own out billet aluminum. Not that difficult.

My personal input here....I had a Delta Unisaw 20 years ago. I loved it. My only problem was space. I wasn't able to have a good outfeed table so that was a problem. I did put in a dedicated 220 volt circuit for my saw and a small air compressor. I absolutely loved the enclosed base. The motor was not in the way at all. I installed a dust collection on it so dust was not a factor. When I bought the saw, I also bought the Unifence system with it. In looking back I wish I had bought the Biesemeyer fence instead. Mainly because of all the ways that accessories and clamps can be used with it. If I was to do it again, I'd probably look around for a good used Unisaw. I wouldn't buy a new one simply because I have lost confidence in Delta as an equipment mfgr. They are just not the same company that they once were. There are many used saws around. Just do your homework and check them out for excessive wear. Make sure the belts are in good shape and always replace them as a set.

My saw has the quick release lever. What I found upon disassembly was that the sliding bracket that broke was frozen in the tracks and nothing was moving even when the lever was moved. There was enough movement in the spring that I never realized that the wheel wasn't moving up or down. The spring had gone bad and that's why I was tearing it apart. I used a dead blow hammer and a block of wood to try to move the slider and it just shattered. CHEAP crap! I found an older one that wasn't like mine that I almost bought but I wasn't sure it would fit. I'm hoping this one fits. I'm going to get it working and I think I'll sell it. I'll find a saw that is like the one I bought 20 years ago. LIke I was telling Kevin, I found a great looking 28-200 Rockwell near where Iive for $350. I might be able to haggle the price down a bit. Thanks for your help JT.

I found a great looking Rockwell 14" bandsaw model number 28-200 for $350. I'm very tempted. THAT'S when they were still making good stuff.

Thanks Kevin. I did a lot of research yesterday. I have feeling that the part that Grizzly uses might fit but I got in a hurry and went on eBay and found someone in Utah that has the assembly in this picture. I had to pay an exorbitant price for it but I want and need my bandsaw to operate. I might start looking for a different brand and sell mine. Maybe the Grizzly. Who knows?
