Yes, I've had those too. The one that seems to come from Microsoft and wanting to help me "clean" up my computer to get rid of the virus is the one that I have the most fun with. When they call, and they always seem to have an East Indian accent, I go along with it for a bit but when they want me to turn on my computer, I tell them that I'm away from it and could they call tomorrow morning around 9 a.m. They say yes and sure as heck, they call. Then they tell me to turn on the computer and boot into Windows. I tell them that I don't have Windows. Then they say " are you using Apple" and I say no. That sort of confuses them. Then they tell me that I must have either Windows or Apple. I tell them no, I don't use either one. They ask me what I use. I tell them Linus Ubuntu. That really throws them a curve. I had one guy turn me over to his "supervisor" and he asked me what operating system I was using. I told him Linux Ubuntu version 7.0. He told me he had never heard of it before. I told him he must not be much of a computer guy. Anyway, long story short, I love to mess with those people and waste as much of their time as possible. I could go on and on. There are many great stories to tell. Lately with all the political calls we have been getting, the ones the get past NOMOROBO.com, I always answer "9 1 1, what is your emergency". There will be a pause and they start to hang up. I tell them "don't hang up, we have captured your number and a squad car is being dispatched to your address". They fall all over themselves trying to get out that one. I love it.!!!

Jerry, if you had as much money as you think I do, you'd still be poor. There was a time, but that time has passed. On the subject of being quick, I don't get phone calls from my grandkids. So, I knew right away that it was a scam. But he knew just enough about my grandson that he did a pretty good job. I may have been born at night but it wasn't LAST night.

Thank you for your suggestion. You are not overstepping in any way. I do use one of these clamps for part of my cuts but there is still tape involved. For the project I'm working on right now, most of it can be cut without the aid of a clamp but for the cuts on the tall part I use the clamp. Once those cuts are done, I have to tape the pieces together to complete the cutting. It's at that point that I am getting the adhesive transfer from the taped wood to the table top. I hope I am making this clear.

Well, this morning I got the phone call that I have always expected but it never came. Until today. I got a call from my Grandson. Or so it sounded like. But, I very quickly realized that it was a scam but I played along. I did all I could to make the person give me details that only my Grandson would know. They were pretty cagey and managed to give answers that were close but still not detailed. Anyway, long story short, I waited for the part where he asked for money and he supposedly had his attorney standing by on a conference line to give me all the details on where I should wire the funds. I very nicely told him that he was calling the wrong person because I didn't have that kind of cash sitting around and that he would be better off calling his father who he had already told me that he didn't want to get involved. Then, the line went dead. I know that these people are getting their leads and informational details from Facebook because I had just posted something to my Grandson last week and it was the first time in a long time that we had connected through Facebook. So, let this be a warning to all of you. Be ready to ask questions that only your friend/relative would know. It will sound like their voice and you'll even doubt yourself but I guarantee, it will come down to them asking for money and it's a SCAM!

When you folks use the clear tape or any tape for that matter, do you get an adhesive build-up on the table of the saw around the hole? I'm having a terrible time with it happening on my saw. I'm using shipping labels directly on the wood and when doing compound cuts I have to use the packaging tape to hold the pieces in place. As soon as I do that, I get the build-up. I have a good coating of Johnson's paste wax on the table so the adhesive scrapes off with a plastic scraper that I have but it's a pain to have to do it after every cut. Any suggestions? Does the brand of tape matter? I have used 3M and right now a roll I bought at Harbor Freight. They both do it. I might try using some blue tape next time.

Seeing where you are located, I can understand your thinking. It gets darn cold up your way. I'm in a very moderate place and the temps don't vary nearly as much as where you are. Low 40's once in a while up to maybe 90's. but most of the time in the 60's to 80's.

Well, I'm having the problem on my EX but I must admit that I never did any compound cutting on the Dewalt. I have waxed the heck out of the tables but so far the problem is just on the EX and with compound cuts. Of course, I never have to use the packing tape on any of the other stuff I've done.

Yes, I stick it directly to the wood. So far, it has worked great. My problem comes in when I have to use packing tape to hold the pieces in place with compound cutting. I can't figure out why I am getting adhesive residue on the table around the hole where the blade goes through. For the life of me, it just doesn't make sense. There is transfer for some reason. I'm going to keep trying though. The way I see it, the blade goes through the wood/adhesive tape and picks up a bit of the adhesive and how it is getting from the blade to the table is what I can't figure out.

Les, I have experience the same problem with the shelf liner. I am having great success with the full page shipping labels though. A package of 100 of them goes a long way.

I bought mine used. It's a 2010 and lightly used. So far, I love it and no matter what happens, I will keep it going. Keep us updated on what you find.

Les, I have to agree. I have some but haven't tried them yet. I was wondering, when using the spiral blades, do you not have to turn the wood? Is that the idea? Just feed the wood into the blade from all angles and not have to steer it? So to speak.

I sure hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem with these saws. So far, I haven't had a problem but then again, I'm not one to be changing the speed all the time. I have a "sweet" spot that seems to be good for most everything I do. At least so far.

I just came across this thread again because of a link back to it. I'd be interested in knowing how much of a job it was to install the new control that you bought. Was it an easy fix? Just for future info. I like to know in advance what is entailed in the repair.

I have mine set at the strongest point and I lubed the sliding screw/washer to take the drag off of it. I'll have to see if I can get it freed up a bit. Thanks.

What arm lift are you referring to Kevin. I have the Jim Dandy on my Dewalt but it doesn't pick the arm up automatically. I have to lift it and then it stays up. Is there another one that I don't know about?

Les, when we were out on the road, we spent a couple of months up in the Custer S.D. area. We went to both the Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monuments. After going to Crazy Horse and doing some reading and listening to lectures, both my wife Barb and I came away with a whole new understanding of how badly the Indians got screwed by the U.S. government. I'm ashamed for what we as a nation did to those people.

Brad, I wish you lived a bit closer to me. I'd enjoy sitting on the front porch with you for a while and just "jawing". I had no idea of the insight that you possess. I'd love to hear your background stories. And to think that you are so much younger than me, I'm humbled.

My sentiments too Les. I have always loved history and it's a shame they stopped teaching it in school.

I thought so at first too but after comparing the top sign and then looking at your post Wayne, the top one seems to have more "block/square" to it. Not as much rounding. Just my take on it. I have no idea about fonts but that's what it looks like to me. Compare the "I"s. They have turn downs on them.

Thanks Brad for posting the pics of your work. They are great. More interesting though is the story behind them and your family history. I love reading that stuff. Also, for anybody who loves to read and read non-fiction, there is a great book out about how badly the Osage Indians got screwed over when oil was discovered on their little piece of Oklahoma. The name of the book is "Killers of the Flower Moon". You won't regret reading it. I couldn't put it down.

Brad, stop getting down on yourself. You are very talented, you have a ton of great equipment and a great shop to work in. Now, all ya gotta do is get back to feeling good. Both physically and mentally. Your work speaks for itself. I am in awe of what you do. I am still in the learning stage. Very early learning stage.
