  1. Thanks for the update Lew, I hope it all goes as well as it can for you. We are all anxious to see your place, your shop and of course, your scroll work.
  2. It happens to me all the time. But I find that if I keep moving and don't sit for too long at a time, it sure helps. I feel very fortunate that at 75 I can still do what I can.
  3. Brad, someone famous once said "a man has to know his limitations". I think it might have been Clint Eastwood. Whatever. The gist of it all is what matters. Until you are back to 100%, don't try to do the things that you used to take for granted. If a tree branch is lying on the ground, let it lay. It won't cost anything to let it stay there for a while. Do what is important. Keep yourself and your wife happy and healthy. Everything else can wait. JMHO!
  4. I must agree JT. I do spend a lot of time on FB because it seems to be the only way I can keep up with my old friends anymore. I like it here a lot more too.
  5. Sorry for the double post. I tried to add to the "topic" bar.
  6. Here is good deal for an EX with stand and foot switch in San Diego. Check it out. I can't tell what size it is but it looks like a 16". https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/tls/d/wood-working-power-tools/6639902163.html I think it was just posted yesterday.

  8. That's very true Les. Except that the 5 sq. ft. is all vertical. Now that I have put the EX on a mobile cart, I have much more room out on the driveway. I just have to be able to move it in at night. I'm thinking of a way to "screen" in my driveway. At least maybe 10 feet in front of my shop so it is a bit more private and secure.
  9. There are some new videos on youtube for learning Gimp 2.1. I have just started viewing them. I have also watched just about all of Travis' videos on both Inkscape and Gimp. Gimp has a lot of new stuff since Travis made his videos on it. Check out this site.......
  10. I joined it a while back and met some nice folks on there.
  11. Les, these pop up every once in a while at very good prices. Keep checking C/L and maybe you'll get lucky. I had a chance at a Sakura a while back for $55. I would have had to drive about 75 miles each way to pick it up so I passed on it. I have kicked myself many times since. I won't let the next one get away.
  12. I pretty much joined them as I found them and have enjoyed reading and seeing what others are doing in the hobby. Scroll saw cafe is somewhat interesting but to sit and watch someone for hours on end doing a portrait, to me, gets boring very quickly. But, I watch SSV on FB and a couple of others most of the time. Whatever post notifications come up, I'll check them out.
  13. I think price may have something to do with it. And of course brand name recognition. I had never heard of PS Wood before getting interested in the hobby. I had heard of Hegner most of my adult life though. I just figured that for $65, even if only used as a paperweight, is well worth the investment.
  14. It's so nice to know that I am of sound mind. Somebody in that area needs to run, not walk, but run to wherever that saw is and snap it up.
  15. Worth every penny of $65. If it's near you, I'd buy it just to have one around. PS Woods makes great saws from what I have heard. Very heavy duty like a Hegner.
  16. Great job of cutting. And I love the message too.
  17. Has anybody checked the dollar stores yet? They may have some too.
  18. I'd like to hear from anybody who may have tried the original ones made for the EX on their Dewalts. I liked the idea of the tension lever and not having to use the round tension knob on the Dewalt. Anybody out there tried them?
  19. If only you knew how close to home you are Les. My wife is the consummate "clean freak". She wears me out just watching her flit around the house cleaning and dusting and washing clothes and whatever. Actually, I'm trying very hard to get her interested in scrolling. I certainly have enough saws now.
  20. I'm just glad to hear it was that and not some life threatening illness or such. We all have times when we have to set aside our hobbies in order to attend to what life throws at us. My interests seem to find many ways to deviate also. And there is my wife too.
  21. Mike, I have to ask, why have you not been scrolling?
  22. We broke many records here in the Southland yesterday. One of them, out in Riverside went back to 1918. Damned "global warming" anyway. Ha! You can't see most of it. That part is neat just so I can get in and out.
  23. You can't see most of it. That part is neat just so I can get in and out. Jerry, My shop is all of 9 x 13 feet. I have mostly portable tools that can be used outside. I have to keep it under control or I wouldn't be able to do anything. I even have a portable work table outside made of two sawhorses and a piece of plywood. But, it beats not having a shop at all.
  24. We knew it was coming but nobody expected it to be this hot. On my back porch it was over 103° all day. That's in the shade. I was working in my shop and on the driveway building a cart/stand for my EX. I finally got it in clamps. Tomorrow I will drill and screw it all together. I used 7" wheels from H/F so I can get it in and out of my shop. Generally it's pretty nice out on the driveway so I will do a lot of my scrolling out there.
  25. Sam,  I just noticed that you are in So Cal. Where might you be? I'm in Huntington Beach. Are we close to one another?
