  1. Just yanking your chain Paul. I ruined my hearing after all the years of competitive pistol shooting and selling tools in body shops. Oh, and standing between two M-48 tanks when they fired simultaneously at Fort Irwin. The Aids really don't help much with the spoken word. Especially my wife. They call it "selective hearing". Ha!
  2. It's probably not a bad idea to get in the habit of loosening the table adjusting knob everytime you sit at the saw for the first time that day and do the check it thing. It is so easy and fast, why not?
  3. I had to do it that way because the lid was "frozen" on and even using Channellock pliers I couldn't get it loose. So, I did what you did what a screwdriver and popped the plastic off. Then, the pliers had a good grip and I got it open. From now on, that plastic comes off right away.
  4. Does turning off my hearing aids work for "hearing protection" or do I need shooting muffs too?
  5. I gave Kevin's labels a try. I bought a 100 pack on Amazon. So far I like them. But, my question to Kevin is this. How do you work with a small pattern on a huge label? It seems like such a waste to put a 3" pattern on an 11" sheet of paper. I'm not proficient yet with resizing my patterns or telling the printer how I want it printed. Maybe a little tutorial from you would be appreciated. So far though, I like the labels. Neat and clean and they stick very well.
  6. Here are two pics that were posted in C/L. The table appears to have very little wear. Do these pics give any indication of it's place of manufacture or age? I'm probably going to go see it in person later this week. I was in touch last night with the seller. He is still a working stiff so I have to work around his work schedule. It's about a 50 mile drive each way. Thanks to you all for all the help.
  7. It is a green one. What age would that make it?
  8. I just found a used Excalibur EX21 near me for $300 with foot switch and a box of accessories. I emailed the seller because that was all that was available. If he still has the saw, I will run up to his place tomorrow to check it out. What should I be aware of besides the obvious? Do Ex's have any quirks to look out for? Just want to do my homework prior to going. Thanks to all. Ray
  9. I was just going to say that but you beat me to it.
  10. The manual says to tighten it down but they aren't meaning with the Quick Clamp I'll bet. The manual was written prior to the Quick Clamp availability more than likely. So, using the Quick Clamp we are probably supposed to loosen it up just a bit maybe? I leave it sort of loose and haven't broken any blades yet. But as I said, I haven't put too many hours on it so far. I'm still trying to figure out the motor speed problem.
  11. Happy Father's Day to all here on the SSV. And to all fathers everywhere. Have a great day.
  12. Thanks for the tip. I will do that. Yesterday I made a dust collector for it so I won't have the huge mess that goes along with planing. I also found that the blades are reversible so I now have two new knives. The guy who had it before me must have planed gravel down to a very thin consistency. HA!
  13. Being as new to this as I am, I still can't remember all the types and brands of blades that I'm using. When I get up from my saw, I write on a piece of paper what blade is in the saw. I lay the paper right on the saw table so I know when I go to the saw the next time, and it may be a while, what blade is still in the saw. So far, it has worked well for me.
  14. I'm sort of confused here too. I have read it both ways. That the upper blade clamp should be held tight with the knob above the clamp. Then I read that it should be backed off a 1/4 turn. So far, I haven't seen much difference either way but I haven't really used the saw that much yet.
  15. Thanks once again John. I have the planer as pictured here. I got it for a great price so I couldn't turn it down. I also have a Delta 14" band saw that I suppose is capable of resawing if I have the correct blade. The wood that I am thinking about planing is some scraps that I got from Ocoochee in a sample box. Some of it is thinner that 1/4" and some of it is thicker. Some of the wood is close to 1/4" but needs to be cleaned up on one side or both. I am not going to try to thin down any of the thicker boards. I'll find uses for them as is. I just want to make the thinner wood useable in my smaller projects. I truly appreciate you taking the time to explain all that you did. I will take it all into consideration before attempting to do this. Oh, and to edit this post, my biggest problem is my small shop. I would love to have a drum sander but I just don't have the space. I'm keeping my eyes open for a used 10" of either Grizzly or Jet but they are still out of my price range so far.
  16. Here, once again, is a great example of how badly we need a "WOW" icon here on the SSV. This post and accompanying pics deserve a "WOW". Thanks Charley. Now, I have to get busy on making my finger jointed boxes and running to the drug store for my bottles. And also, I need to gather all the other stuff you mentioned. I like those angle gauges. And your holding clamps. And........................
  17. I like the idea of a sled of some kind. Thanks again everybody.
  18. That stuff is all too short for planing. Dangerous.
  19. Thanks to both of you. So, If I'm understanding both of you, I don't need any kind of a "sled" for wood that thin? I do understand about the "not too short" thing too. The wood I am going to plane down is all 18 to 24 inches in length. Nothing shorter at this point.
  20. I have recently acquired a Delta planer in the 12 inch range. I also bought a box of cutoffs from Ocoochee that has a lot of great wood in it but in odd thicknesses. If somebody out there could give me a quick idea of how to go about planing some of this wood down to 1/4", I'd sure appreciate it. I know there has to be more to it than just running it through. Do I need to attach it in some way to a thicker piece of wood to act as a sled or should I be able to go down to 1/4" running just the board through by itself? I've run other wood through just to clean it up but I've never done anything down to this thickness. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  21. So, if your table is straight and true and you do a compound cut, why would it go out of square? Am I missing something?
  22. You folks certainly know how make a fella feel good. My head is swelling right out of my Trump 2020 hat.
  23. Beautiful work. Very nice.
  24. Very nice job. I love the odd shape of the wood. So much better than round or square. Very creative.
