  1. Yes, I almost did that but those full-page labels aren't cheap and I can't be wasting them. Furthermore, I love a challenge.
  2. Ok, here goes. I asked this same question of Travis but have not heard back as of yet. I have a scanned page out of a book that has the patterns in a group on one page. One of the patterns requires a quantity of 8. So, rather than print the entire page 8 times, I wanted to bring it into Inkscape and break it apart. I scanned it into a .pdf. I then went out and found a converter to .svg. I imported the file into Inkscape and tried to work with it but nothing seems to work for me. I ungrouped it, I tried to break it apart but nothing works. I know it can be done but I don't know what I'm either doing wrong or not doing at all. I have watched a ton of youtube videos but nothing helps. I'm so frustrated I could just spit. I use the full sheet address labels and I don't really want to waste them. Thanks for your help. 3. Rather than me write out my questions regarding Inkscape, who is the tried and true Inkscape guru here on the SSV. Besides Travis that is? I wrote to him and posed my question but for future reference, who else here might I contact via private message with my questions? I have watched all his videos and many on Youtube but I never can find a video that references what I need help with.
  4. I'll stick to selling right near me and collect no tax. I'll put a "donation" price on it.
  5. Too much sanding and shaping for me. I have a neighbor who is into intarsia. She has the Foredom too and works outside. Not for me. I like what I'm doing right now. Mostly learning. I want to do some box making so that I can incorporate the marquetry that I learned. I have a book that has a little box in it that will allow me to do both. I look forward to that one. Right now, I just rec'd. a box of wood from Ocooche for a votive holder that my wife wants. It's made of walnut and red cedar. I'm doing the plans now. And that means more learning of Inkscape. Grrrrrr!
  6. Geez, you people know so much. I envy all of you. I have always done the building and left the finish work to my wife. Now, she can no longer do it so I am left to try to do it myself. Lot's to learn but so far you all are a fountain of knowledge and I sure do appreciate all your input. Keep it coming, I'm soaking it all in. The thread has been very helpful. I'm not into painting anything yet. That's another can of worms what with all the mixing of paints to achieve the desired colors etc. Thanks again to you all.
  7. I understand why you might not want to date something that you are selling but I personally would like to know when something was made and by who. I have some hand carved things from my great grandfather. It would have been neat if he would have marked them is some way and dated them so I would know when he carved them. When I pass them down I now have to remember to put a note with them with as much info as I might be able to provide. I will be signing and dating all my work from here on.
  8. That's downright awesome. Thanks for posting.
  9. Wow! I realize this has been up for almost 2 years but I just ran across it. Thanks for posting. Very fascinating to watch.
  10. I like the Family plaque but what do the letters spell? Just curious.
  11. Thanks all. I thought I had read about someone here that used a woodburning tool and I was looking at Amazon for something that might work. Whatever I read, the person spoke of a "cheapie $15 ******* woodburning tool". I can't recall the brand name so I thought I'd look back but I had no luck with the search tool. I used every combination of "signing" "marking" and whatever else I could think up but nothing came back that was what I had read. Heck, it might not have been here. I hang out on FB forums too. Thanks again. I think I have it covered now. You all have given me plenty of ideas to run with.
  12. I guess I haven't figured out how to use the search bar yet. I know that not too far back there was something discussed about marking or signing your work with either a branding iron or wood burning tool. I can't seem to find it. I was wondering how everybody "signs" their work. Those of you who do that is. Curious. I might want to start putting my name and a date on some things I'm making.
  13. Thanks Charley, I'll take all that into consideration. I wish I had room for a drum sander. Now, if you were my next door neighbor, I would have one handy.
  14. Well, remember now that there are 12 million people here in So. Cal. So there are bound to be more of just about everything available. The biggest problem is the overcrowding. Hate that.
  15. Paul, I have had emails back and forth with Wolfgang and he said that what I am experiencing may or may not be part of the soft start. He also told me to clean the speed sensor inside the motor. I did that but it wasn't dirty. So, I don't know what to think. I almost had somebody close to me to come by or let me try his saw but that hasn't transpired yet. I'm not giving up though. I truly want this saw to work. What gets me is the ridiculous price they put on the speed control board. It's nothing but a handful of electronic parts. I don't even think there is an eprom in it. I'd love to get my hands on another one to try on my saw. That's the one downfall of Hegner. Their pieces and parts are ridiculously over prices. That's the same reason I will never own a German car. They are still trying to get even with us for kicking their ass in WW 2.
  16. I'm just kidding about that. I already told her that I was going to sell one but she said, I don't care what you buy. But, realistically, I don't have that much room. I sort of have a soft spot in my heart for the Dewalt because I took the time to learn all about it, and then I rebuilt it so it runs and works flawlessly. The Hegner, well, I'm still not sure about it. I am not completely sold on the "soft start" and whether or not that is the problem that I have been having with it. At some point, I either have to determine what it is all about or just opt to get rid of it. Then, I will have room in the shop for the EX. If I find that I like the EX as you all say, well then it might be time for the Dewalt to go to someone who needs a good saw. There are about 5 of them on C/L right now but the sellers are out of their minds asking more than what a new one is going for. I'll wait until the market is in my favor to sell mine. The Heg, well I feel that I can just about double my money on it at any time. I'm in at this point about $350. So, I won't take a loss on it no matter what. No rush to judgment at this point.
  17. Paul, I truly don't want to sell any of them. But, I'm really pushed for space, Maybe I'll figure out a way to keep them. The EX21 may not get its own stand. It may become a portable.
  18. Ok, update. I just got off the phone with the seller. He told me that it belonged to his father who passed away 4 years ago. His father purchased it not too much before he passed. So, the saw has not been used much. The seller has tried once to use it to cut out a wooden car for his son but had nothing but trouble because of not knowing how to even put a blade in it. Anyway, he said he needs the space in the garage. The saw has never been firmly mounted since he has had it. We settled on his asking price. He told me that he would consider it sold until I can pick it up this weekend. I wanted to go get it tonight but he is still a working man and his schedule is pretty tight. So, either Friday or Saturday the saw will come to its new home. My dilemma now is which saw to get ride of. The Dewalt or the Hegner. Since the Dewalt is a similar mechanism and I have gotten used to it, I just might part with the Hegner. Or, maybe I'll keep all three and fib to my wife. Oh what to do, what to do?
  19. Tony, I just tried as you suggested using Word. It works so great. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Now, if I can just learn a few of the things in Inkscape, I'm sizzling hot. WoW! Thanks again.
  20. Darn! I have so much to learn. I sure wish one of you smart folks lived next door to me. I need help. I spend so much time on the computer trying figure out all the software packages that I never have time left to scroll. Thanks for the help Tony. I'll give that a try. Can I also place it anywhere on the page I want it to it will print in one of the four quadrants?
  21. Wow! It would be interesting to know how many blades will fit in a large Folgers can. I'll bet thousands or maybe more.
  22. What exactly would be a "show stopper". Other than a motor that doesn't motor or ????
  23. I like that idea Marg, sounds too simple. Why didn't the rest of us think of it? It's off to McD's for some straws. They have the nice fat ones.
  24. Thanks Tgiro, that's the info that I need. I would not have known about the problem with the bottom clamps. I'm going to give the saw a good trial run too. I'm not familiar with the upper arm on these saws. Does it stay up on it's own or does it need some sort of "stay" added on?
  25. Well Paul, wifey says something has to go because she isn't going to let me bring one into the house and my little shop is out of space. I'm thinking of selling the Hegner but ..........................maybe not.
