For some strange reason, and I have no idea why, the stands ALWAYS look like they've been to Ukraine and back. The only thing missing is the bullet holes.

If you lay all of them on their sides, you should be able to see the difference in the opening. You will probably only ever use the middle sized one. I bought 4 of them just to have some extras. I don't preload any of them. I still can't believe what a steal you got on that saw. I wonder what else went into the dumpster before you got there. Obviously they were not knowledgeable about power tools.

When my wife and I decided to sell out and go out on the road for as long as we wanted, we sold EVERYTHING except some things that were just too precious to sell. We stored them in a 6 x 8 storage unit and took only what we could take in our 5th wheel trailer. If we bought anything that meant something had to go to make room. We were out full time for 3 years. Best time of our married lives. Anyway, that is how to trim your load. Sell it!

Re:parts, the springs are for older saws. Somebody may have upgraded their saw and some parts may be from original saw. The saw you bought has all the bells & whistles so once you get it cleaned up you will have a real treasure. Best deal I've seen yet. Go to church next Sunday.

I was going to say it was worth $50 if it runs. Variable speed works ok? No tension release, no quick clamp. Those 2 things will be about $200. The rear quick release is about $65. Blade holders and wrench another $50 or so. It's got the large table. A project for sure but when it's done you will have a great saw. After enlarging the pics I see that it does have the front tension release. You scored!

Ok, it's got the good clamps. The nylon washer is a .10 cent item. As for the lag time, if I recall when I had mine, it had a sort of soft start and didn't jump into speed instantly. That's a good thing. Something to just get used to. From what I could see in the pics, that saw is a jewel and there is nothing missing. Maybe just not in proper alignment. It's a great deal on a great saw. I bought mine for less but it had sat for 20 years and had a bit of rust on it. The guy who had it just wanted it gone. When I sold it a few months later, I got $550 for it. All I did was clean it up and polish the table. The little that I used it, I liked it a lot but it just was too big for my 9 x 13 shop and I also had 2 other saws. If it were me, I'd go back and buy that saw. As Kevin said, it will just take a while to figure out all it's quirks. .

Thanks Kevin. That's what I was talking about. The G series in a 20". I did see that they make a 20" in the BM series.

I wouldn't walk away just yet. That piece is not an expensive part and may have just gotten lost somewhere in the fray. Was the nylon washer still there? Were the lower blade clamps square or round? If they are going to "scrap it", I'd go back and offer them a C note or ??? and see if you can buy it. That saw is not a throw-away by any means. Without the V-piece you wouldn't have even been able to properly tension it so you weren't able to give it a fair test drive. Go back and buy that saw! Edit: I just looked at all the pics of that saw in the Craigslist ad and the V block is there in the picture but it is turned sideways and not seated down into the V groove in the arm. I don't see anything missing.

Glad to have you back. There is really no reason to stay away if you still have a computer or phone. Post your thoughts if nothing else. Glad to see what you make first.

Not sure but I think all G4's look alike. The BM saw has it's own badge but not all that different otherwise. It would be neat to see a BM 20 inch saw. I'd probably buy one if they made one. I liked my 226 Ultra but the footprint was just too big.

Yes, they are identified in a couple of ways. The most obvious is the table has a more streamlined look. All the others have a squared off cut to the perimeter. There is a G4 badge on the sides of the upper mechanism and some red trim. You'll know it's a G4 right away.

After cataract surgery in both eyes I had to use readers. I hated carrying them. I was used to wearing glasses so I had some progressive lens made with clear on top half and progressive down from the middle. So I still wear my glasses all he time but no need for readers. I used a lighted magnifier from Harbor Freight with an LED bulb. So far, so good. My biggest thing is wearing a dust mask and having to take it off to drink anything. I'm looking for one with a tube/straw in it for sipping through.

I'd be all over that one. Very clean and seems to have all the latest stuff. Go check it out and have 3 $100 bills in your pocket. I had a saw just like that one but sold it because it took up too much space in my small shop. You won't go wrong on that one. Also, $1100 for that Hegner is too much. $800 max.

Thanks Paul. I've been on their site many times but have never seen any of those videos. I also found out about their multi-tool grinder add-on. Interesting but pricey. I also learned a couple of things on using the Hegner saws.

This one just came on and I'm very tempted. Less than an hour away. I think I could get it for $200. Just to let you know what is out there, here is what I would call a "good deal" at this price. Even though I'd still try to get it for less. It has everything. Large rectangular table, variable speed, front tension release lever, foot switch, and lighted magnifier. The only thing missing is the Quick Clamp that holds the top of the blade. That's a $35 parts plus shipping. Even though this saw is almost 30 years old, it's still hardly broken in. As long as they oiled the two bushings in the upper and lower arms, there's not much else to do. Probably the weakest small part is the link between the motor's flywheel and the lower arm. It has two bearings in it but the material the arm is made of seems to crack with age. It's about a $50 part because you can't buy just the link. Bearings are included. When mine gives up the ghost, I'm going to try to make one out of aluminum.
