  1. I knew there had to be a good explanation. You are allowed some time off. I hope it was good time.
  2. Yeah, my nose is getting sore from you rubbing it! Why don't you mill some of it, cut it into small sizes and send it all your Village friends?
  3. Why not buy some of that magnetic material that they make signs out of and just lay it over your existing table? You can poke a pin hole in it and have a tiny hole. Then if/when it gets worn out, replace it with a new one. Is your table steel? If so the magnetic stuff will still great and it's got to be far easier to replace than making a whole new table top. Just trace around it while it's attached to your table top and cut it out. Easy-peasy!
  4. My thoughts too Bill. Curious!
  5. I'm curious about something. I was just PM'd by a new member going by TJ Brown. He has tried to post some pictures of what he has done using resin in his cuttings but can't seem to get "approval" from the Admin who is in control. Have any of you folks heard of that problem in the past? TJ has done some very nice pieces and his resin is beautiful. He wants to add to this thread and tell us how he has done this in the past. Can somebody get in touch with Travis and see what is going on?
  6. If he has the needed tools have him put some Heli-coils in the clamps so you can use the Pegas/Dewalt-style screws.
  7. I see nothing wrong with it! Where is your "butchery"?
  8. It was once. But our stupid governor has been trying to make everybody who lives in suburbia move into the city so we can all live on top of each other. It's far easier for them to control us that way. Our little city is about 99% built out. There is no sizeable ground left to build on. So, the legislature passed a bill that will allow developers to buy a residential tract home, plow it under and built a 5-6 story apartment building in its place. And not allow one square foot for parking a car. That's another thing they are pushing for. Ride a bike to public transportation. This is not a very good state to live in at this point. But, I have hopes that it will make a comeback before my demise.
  9. No matter, you're keeping the Dewalt for backup so win-win.
  10. Here, where I live, we don't think in terms of miles. We think in terms of hours. The last saw I bought was in Santa Barbara. That's roughly 126 miles but about 4 hours each way because no matter what time you go, there will be traffic coming and going. So, a trip of 8 hours not counting stopping for breaks and food. With that in mind I'd be off in a heartbeat for that saw.
  11. What is actually the difference between resin and epoxy? In Fiona's video, she specifies resin with a hardener. Is it just words or is there a difference.
  12. My only thought is that the screw and clamp screw might be too rough and when you tighten the blades down it is being "grabbed" by the screws and forced to bend. Try sanding the screws with 220 paper and give them a lighter sanding.
  13. Congrats on your new "toy". Yoi will love that saw. At some point you may want to add the Pegas clamps.
  14. Both of my Ex's are on homemade wood stands. Each stand has 7 inch wheels on the far end so the can be rolled outdoors. They each have their own onboard dust control systems.
  15. Did they say you absolutley have to have a gram scale? I am thinking of buying whatever is needed but not if I don't need it. In the video that Fiona did, she had a gram scale and it seems like it would be useful.
  16. You'll find a way. The same way I have 3 saws in my 9 x 13 shop. I have an 8 foot workbench, a 14 inch full size bandsaw, a drill press, my fold up Dewalt table saw and a stack tool box. You just find a way.
  17. Thanks all. This is exactly why I asked here. I knew I'd get some good feedback. Keep it coming.
  18. Well BadBob, what was the outcome of this saw? Did you jump in your car and head over to buy it? I, for one, hope so.
  19. Read what? I watched the video but didn't see anything to read. Ah, never mind what I wrote. I went back and read what you wrote. I misunderstood your meaning in the above post. I thought you meant there was something to read on her video post. Anyway, thanks for the info. Is there a diffence between epoxy and resin? Or is it just that we have come to call everything epoxy? I wonder if they have anything at the local Hobby Lobby or Michael's. And for the tinting, can anything be used? Acrylic paints? Or something special?
  20. Well, I'm having problems watching your videos and not sure why unless you are on a very slow connection. Anyway, first thing to do is mount a fairly heavy blade in the chucks. A heavy blade so that tension doesn't break it if overdone. Also, taking all the slack out of the machine will quiet it down some. From what I could hear your saw has some noise but it could be because you don't have a blade in it or tensioned. If after doing that you are hearing any noise, it's probably coming from the tension rod hitting something because it's too loose or the upper link arm is contacting the underside of that cover. Here is what you need to do to fix that. It's a common problem with these saws. Here are pics of what needs to be done. On my saw, when I had it, I had to actually grind away enough of that cover that some of the groove was actually gone. What is happening is the link coming from the rear of the saw to the front upper blade mechanism is hitting the underside of that cover at high speeds. Also, if you have too much slop in the tension rod it will flail around above the cover and hit the cover. It's just a matter of relieving the cover's underside and fine tuning the tension rod on the upper side. Once you have managed to do all that, you shouldn't have any more knocking.
  21. Yes, that's what has triggered my thoughts. I'm not sure of where to buy or what to buy. I'm hoping for some tutilege on the subject.
  22. What brought me to this question is the tissue box covers that I have made. I've made quite a few with just this palm tree on the 4 sides and got to thinking that I might try to fill the palm fronds with a green tinted resin and then somehow fill the trunks with a brown tinted resin. I might have to alter the pattern to add a "separator" between the top and bottoms.
  23. I'm toying with using colored resins in some projects that I have in mind. I'd appreciate any advice that any of our folks might have to offer. What/where/how?
  24. If you end up with the "dreaded knocking noise" then it will require taking that cover off one more time and file/grind off the portion that is being contacted by the drive link. If you need more info on that go to scrollsaw.com and see the pics.
