So far, I've only used it to make the Steve Good tissue box covers. I'm not a fretwork guy. If warping is an issue, I might use it.

@Moocifer Joe, I want to take a second and add this comment. There seems to be some misunderstanding regarding your recent purchase of a Dewalt saw. If I said anything negative to rain on you parade, I'm deeply sorry. I had a type 1 Dewalt as my first saw and would probably still have it had not a great deal on a used Excalibur come along. You will get many years of use out of that saw as far as I'm concerned. I'm also very sorry that the Wen didn't work out because I had high hopes for its entry into the scroll saw world. We need more saws in that price range. Anyway, if I said anything to make you feel that you made a bad decision, please accept my humble apologies. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SAW!

no sweat from my point. I know what you meant. We all have heard good and bad about just about every tool mentioned on this forum. You can get a lemon no matter what you buy. It all depends on whether you get a Monday/Friday thing or one made the other 3 days of the week. Every tool that I have purchased over the years, I've had to go over and tighten, loosen, adjust, clean....you name it. My Delta Unisaw was a piece of junk until I got it dialed in. The table was waaaay off.

It will never end, no matter what the hobby there is always something newer, bigger, better. Just go with it!

I think all woodworking machines need waxing if for no other reason than to ward off corrosion. On the aluminum, I think it stalls the oxidation that forms on aluminum. As for the Pegas, cars come painted too but we still wax them.

I think that might have been Rockytime (Les). He made some that worked much better.

Kevin, why don't you make them a deal. Tell them you will pay for a new controller but if it solves your problem they have to refund your money. Or something along those lines. It sounds to me like you got a lemon. If I recall yours was one of the first off the line so whatever the problem might be, they have solved it. But yours is still bad. I wouldn't take no for an answer.

So what you are saying Kevin is the 226 Ultra and the GM series are the best Hawks to own? I know that the 226 Ultra that I had was a great saw. It was just too big for my shop. I hated to sell it.

Kevin, I'm curious as to how you were able to tell all that from one picture. I looked at it and saw that it has variable speed and the tension lever on the arm. I don't see that motor. To me, it looks like a 226 Ultra. Just like the one I had. What do you see?

I have an office chair salvaged from a site here in our park. It has arm rests which I like and I lean back while pondering & fitting and sanding etc.

Well, the most important thing to have is patience. 2nd is tenacity and it appears that you were blessed with both. I used one of those jigs and actually owned one at one time. Mine did have the Craftsman brand name on it. If you ever decide to do a video, I'd love to see how you do it.

I'd love to know all of your steps on the building of these boxes. What did you use for the dovetailing etc.? I love boxes bowls and baskets and am always looking for more info on how others do it. Your work is astounding. I had no idea of your talent until now. You are very good at what you do.

I've been using the same can of Johnson's paste wax for about 30 years. It's really hard to use it up.

Well if you come up with a way that won't break either of our banks just let us know what you need. We can put blades in a birthday card or something like it. Other stuff might being more creative but we can getter done!

I had a used type 1 and after tuning it and doing the re-grease it was a great saw. I added the Pegas clamps and that took most all of the little vibration that it had out of it. I sanded the table top to remove the corrosion and grind marks until it was very smooth and kept it waxed. I built a 3 legged stand for it that went with it when I sold it. If I had not found a really great deal on a used Excalibur, I'd probably still have it.

Just because a computer stops operating doesn't mean you've lost all your data. Get a new computer and hook up the hard drive with the proper cable and you should be able to retrieve most everything. Now if the harddrive is the problem and has actually crashed it may not be retrievable. Even then there are companies that have pretty good success rates with data retrieval. Expensive though. The cable you need is available on Amazon for less than $20.
