  1. Beautifully done! Wise choice "grasshopper".
  2. This might be the one time it would be good to paint something. The whole "pink" thing is the issue so why not dive in and just paint the backer pink and be done with it?
  3. You are doing exactly the right thing. Work on something that has a purpose. Practice patterns are BORING! Those two projects are great and if they come out ok, great. If not, toss them or date them and put them away for a year. But from what I see, you are well on your way and probably being too tough on yourself. Just keep pushing yourself onto harder and harder things. So far, all good. Also I might add, as in projects like the witch one, always work from the center outward. Get the little stuff cut before you cut out the outer shell. That way it keeps rigidity as long as possible.
  4. I'm not going to take either side. What I will say is that first of all, my saws, none of them, run as smoothly at full speed. The vibration factor enters in and that in itself disturbs me and I don't feel as much in control. I usually find that sweet spot where my saw is running as fast as possible without going into what I call the "shake zone". I try to let the blade do the work and follow along at my comfortable pace. I'm not in this hobby for speed. I'm in it for relaxation and enjoyment. I do not enjoy trying to "keep up" with the saws speed. I've learned how to make the sharp corners by relaxing the forward pressure and transferring that pressure to the back side of the blade while at the same time turning the work piece. Another thing I've learned is that "muscle memory" goes away very quickly. If I am not cutting on a semi-daily basis, I lose some of the memory and so I always warm up with a practice piece just to get everything working again.
  5. Delta is not good at parts & service. Caution.
  6. Beautiful work John. I just had to come back and add this comment. Your work is just fantastic and really built a fire underneath me to do better. My tissue boxes look amateurish compared to yours. I can see that you used hardwood instead of BB ply and that is where the difference lies. I am going to step up my game and try making some in the same way as you have here. Thanks for showing your work. I really appreciate your talent.
  7. I sure wish we still had those shows here. But rents got so high and then they added parking on top so folks quit attending. Have fun Rolf. Pics please.
  8. We've been running our a/c in our home so I hated to run the unit in my shop. Our electric is gonna break the bank this month.
  9. For those who may want to try something just a bit easier, check this out. https://www.instructables.com/Wooden-Toy-Ferris-Wheel/
  10. I know, but it's not. It's a very high res pic and I was able to enlarge it to make out my son's face very clearly.
  11. after taking a closer look at it, I was able to see where the center hole was and could see that it was a clock. Very ornate.
  12. Looking forward to it Chris. I should take lessons from you on planning. I never plan. I just jump headlong into a project and I'm sure that's why I end up doing a lot of it more than once. Sorta the way I've lived my life too. I guess I'm too old to learn new tricks.
  13. Beautiful work Paul. As always. What is that second picture of? It almost looks like a clock with an ornate pendulum.
  14. It's 104 on our front porch today. We are sweltering and only a mile from the ocean. Not a whisper of air movement. It's not been fun here. I've not ventured out to my shop in over a week.
  15. Great work Kevin. I commented this way so as not to duplicate all your pics. You are the master!
  16. Form and function! What's not to like?
  17. I have them on both of my Ex's and very happy with them. I noticed a considerable difference in vibration. I find it much easier to mount blades with them and the flip lever is much smoother. At $200 I might have to really think about it but I'd surmise that everything costs more in NZ so maybe you are used to paying more. Denny Knappen has them on sale right now so that may help. 18. Me too. Very slow cutting but no fuzzies!
  19. I'm standing by to see progress pics. Not a project I'd want to be undertaking but I'm anxious to see yours.
  20. Vote wisely!!
  21. Control-Alt-Del
  22. Here's the only picture we have of our son and his team. I was always taken by the whole look of this picture. The dim gray day reflecting the atmosphere.
  23. It's a lot easier to delegate than do it all yourself. If you could have someone else keep your shop spic & span while you created things, I'll bet your shop would look just like that warehouse.
  24. Anybody who is thinking of buying the new Scrollnado, you can buy the cyclone portion of it from Aliexpress for about $5. The rest of the kit is pretty much just plastic hose. If you are at all industrious you can probably put one together for under $20.
