There are many threads here on The Village all about dust collection. I know I've seen a few youtube vids regarding the subject and there was one particularly aimed at Hawks. Also, @Rolf has a nice setup on his Hawk. For myself, I have 2 Excaliburs and a Hegner and I've incorporated MetroVac500 car vacs into each saw so that each saw can be moved and still have it's own onboard dust collection. There is nothing finer than scroll saw dust. It will KILL a regular shop vac so it's very important that you incorporate some sort of cyclone into the system you design. I've been using a mini cyclone that I purchased from Amazon/Aliexpress for under $20 ea and they work great.
Paul, I have read about folks putting the blades in upside down and thought to myself, I would NEVER do that. But strangely, it just happened the other day. Somehow, the blade twisted in my fingers and waddayaknow, it wouldn't cut worth a darn. LOL.
Common problem. It's called hockey sticks. The first thing you need to do is make sure the anvil side (set screw) is protruding into the blade slot about 1 thread. Do this top and bottom. Using some blue Lok-Tite to keep it there. Once you have a blade locked in place check that the blade is in alignment top to bottom. Once that's done check that it is square to the table.
Also, if you clean the ends of your blades with mineral spirits to remove any oil and rub them with 220 sandpaper just enough to rough them up, you won't need to tighten so hard. I think it might have been @heppnerguy who put me onto that idea and it has worked well. Whenever I open a new dozen pack of blades I take a few minutes and do this.
These youtube phenoms are very rare. I'd bet that in most folks realm they would have trouble finding even one person that is making money off youtube. It's a passing thing. The problem is that most people think they are worth way more than they are. Who should get paid a "living wage" to flip burgers? That is an entry level job at best. It was never meant to pay enough to raise a family on. This whole minimum wage thing is a sham. Every time the minimum wage goes up, everything else goes right up with it so workers don't get any farther ahead. It would be better to do away with the minimum wage completely and let the market prevail. A job is only worth what someone will pay to have it done. If you truly think you are worth $15/hour to wash dishes, you are only fooling yourself. Someone will come along and do it for $14. That's how the market works. Get the government out of it.
I'm thinking of cutting the cable and going with Fubo. I'll use Frontier for our high-speed internet. Fubo has everything we need plus unlimited cloud storage for $80/mo. We subscribe to Netflix & Prime plus a couple of others. We are tv junkies. Live Brit tv. Far better than U.S.
You'ave got 2 great saws. I'm glad that you may have found the problem. I also have 2 of them and I try to remember to "exercise" the speed controls on both of them as often as I can remember. I don't change cutting speeds very much but I give the knobs a back and forth twist just to keep any corrosion from building up. I live a mile from the Pacific ocean so it's humid here year round.
