  1. Who doesn't love Popeye? Great work Paul. The price of wood right now is staggering.
  2. The odd thing was, he was the slob of our 4 kids. Never put stuff away and the inside of his car was nothing but sports equip. He went into the Army to get a college education. Four years and out. Then he excelled so much in boot camp that they offered him OCS or the Old Guard. OCS would have meant a 6 year commitment and that was not gonna happen so he opted for Old Guard. He loved it. Spit and polish all the time. They had a press room in every barracks. The guys had to press their uniforms 3 times a day. Now, he manages one of the MLB ballparks. And it is always in pristine condition. Or someone's head will roll. LOL>
  3. Thanks Frank. I did just look at H/D for project panels and I see they are $45/box. Not bad if I start selling the boxes but I'm not sure that will happen. Much appreciate your feedback.
  4. My son was Old Guard at Arlington Cemetary. Thanks for posting.

  6. Frank where do you find your solid core plywood?
  7. I must hand it to everybody for all your great work and creativity. We truly have a gifted group here on The Village. Cudos to everybody. Keep the beautiful work coming. I see many items here that I will be begging you for your patterns. Or at least your sources. Thank you to all.
  8. Your covers put mine to shame. I guess I'll have to step up my game. Yours are beautiful.
  9. Very nice work. I really like your tissue box cover. Can I copy it?
  10. 18 gauge is pretty heavy. How about one of us down here in the states shipping a H/F 23 gauge Banks up to you. I'd think with shipping and all we should be able to get it to you for $60 or less. I bought mine on sale for under $30. They have a 20% off sale for this weekend.
  11. My wife would never go along with that. I'm lucky to be able to bring my stuff indoors after it's all done. LOL>
  12. Are you having problems clamping/holding the blades? If so, give your FIL a try. Otherwise, you have no choice at this point, so you'll have to upgrade.
  13. Just goes to show that if you have the desire you can overcome all obstacles. Nice work.
  14. Just remember, once you remove the pattern nobody knows where you went off line unless you make it worse by trying to over-correct or "cleaning up" your mistake.
  15. I hesitate to post these pics because most of you have already seen them. But here goes. The nut basket, votive holder and center piece are all derived from patterns by John Nelson. The 3 candle holders are from a pattern by an unknown designer. I took the original and made 3 sizes out of it. The last one is a bowl from Sue Mey.
  16. Perfect. I had one of those at one time but when we sold out to go fulltime RVing, it got sold. Along with everything we owned. When we came off the road I had to start all over buying tooks. I had taken up woodcarving while we were traveling.
  17. Another suggestion. If you have a piece of tile or glass or anything really flat, you can use spray adhesive and stick 4 sheets of 220 paper down to your medium. Then turn your project upside down and very gently run it over the paper and smooth it out. I've done that but what I have is a piece of corian that was a cutout from our kitchen sink that came with our home. I have 220 on one side and 400 on the other. You might check around with kitchen installers and see if you can get a couple of pieces of the same stuff. Any of the man made materials are very flat.
  18. I've got an issue of that magazine but I can't find either the Vol # or the project. I found a puzzle-lock pill box but not a vault. And, so far, I've not made anything from the issue I have. Sorry.
  19. Get in the habit of sanding your work piece before you cut it. Take it to 220. Then you won't have to be so careful with it afterward. Even if using old scrap wood, it's a good habit to get into. I'm still having trouble remembering to do it. Definitely makes a big difference.
  20. That looks like it's about the same size as mine. I have an attach storage shed that was built onto the side of our mobile home. It was never intended to be a shop but I made it into one. It's 9 x 13 with a tall area on both sides that I put a shelf up all around on 3 sides so I have a fairly low area for shelving. I'd love to have one like yours. Now all ya gotta do is lay some concrete or brickwork just outside the doors so you can roll some of your equipment outside. That's what I have to do with my table saw and other stuff. Congrats on a nice work area.
  21. That's an excellent suggestion. Learning to put tension on the back side of the blade when approaching a sharp turn is key. I've never tried this but I've heard that taking a medium grit stone to the back edges of your blades will help too. I've also heard the same regarding bandsaw blades.
  22. Thank you Travis and of course John Nelson. I have made many of his projects from the books that he has published through Fox Chapel. His creations are the type of projects that interest me in most cases. Thanks again to both of you.
  23. I would say that you have been bit by the bug. For sure. It will only get worse.
