When I used to use Firefox I could just click on anything and it would open and play. But after switching to Chrome/Opera video links have to be downloaded and then opened. I do it all the time with no problem.

Both of you have some obscure setting set wrong. I can't say what it is but I am able to use either my Android phone or my Wibdows 10 PC without any problem. I'd have to be googling until I figured it out though.

Thanks John for your very informative article. Some I knew but you filled in many blanks. The mention of a "little orange scroll saw" sitting in a booth brought me back to when I used to attend every Woodworking Show before they ended. There was always a guy there demonstrating a little Hegner and turning out tiny reindeer without hardly looking. Almost total muscle memory. I always wanted one if those saws. Now I have one.

At that point, it becomes an experimental situation. What is happening is that when you "tension" the blade, it is pulling that wedge toward you and forcing the upper arm up to apply tension. So, essentially, when you back off the tension from 5 to 3, you are "lenthening" the rod. So if that makes the noise go away, I'd turn the rod out a thread or so. That way, you can have the tension set at 5 but in actuality, it is at about 3. Not sure that is a good thing as you need to be able to have high tension is some cases. What I'd try to do is figure out why, when set at 5, it is making noise. I think the noise is coming from the upper connecting rod, as they call it, contacting the underside of that cover. So, you might have to take some more off of it. I'm pretty sure that is where the knocking is coming from and it only happens at high speed. You are on the right track though. Once you are done, you will have a very good understanding of how the mechanism works. I'm not sure why it doesn't happen to the bottom connecting rod. Probably because there is nothing there for it to bang against. If you could nail down exactly where the upper con rod is hitting that cover, you could probably file it down a bit. Instead of the cover. Try taking more off the cover as that's the easiest spot. I had to really take a bunch off of mine. If I still had the saw, I'd take a pic for you.

Yer welcome sir. 7-8 years ago, I was in the same boat with my first Dewalt so I had to go searching. That's when I found Scrollsaws.com. And then I found this group. Very thankful for both.

I found, through experience, that if I lengthened the rod, it became sort of floppy loose and had a tendency to rattle. By shortening it and taking that slop out of it, the noise went away. Anyway, to your point, if it is running vibration free and quiet, best leave everything alone. I watched your first videos and it sounded like mine did when it was making that noise. That's the only reason I mentioned it. I'm happy if you are happy. Now, go make sawdust. Also, I'm sure that others will gain something from our back and forth's and your videos as it's a common problem. Most people don't have the know-how to take these things apart and fix what's wrong with them.

Maybe not enough. I had to take enough off that it actually left that area "gone" for about 3/8" from the edge.

You've definitely come a very long way. It just proves that it can be done with enough effort.

You are very close to the problem but you haven't gotten to it yet. The problem is on the underside of that cover. It's not at the point that you have highlighted. I'm attaching a picture(s) of what needs to be done. Once this has been done, it keeps the upper piece that connects to the blade arms from hitting the underside of that cover. It's actually two separate problems but they can both make the same rattle sound. The tenshion rod also must be shorted by screwing it in, not out, of the wedge that it pulls on at the rear of the saw. That takes all the "slop" out of it so that it doesn't have the ability to flop around at high RPM.

Nice job. Always nice to use up scraps. I guess that's why I have a barrel full.

I was just thinking that when you glued your pattern to the wood could the dampness in the adhesive caused the toner to bleed? I would surmise hat you cut all the remaining toner off when scrolling. How else could it have gotten that far away from the cut line?

If you've already filed it down it either needs more and/or the rod needs adjusting. It's probably too long and needs shortening. Get well!

The racket you are hearing at high speed is coming from the tension rod. It needs adjusting and there is a spot of the aluminum cover that it is contacting that needs to be filed down just a tad. There is a good write-up here at http://www.scrollsaws.com that tells/explains about it. Check it out and make the awful noise go away. Congrats on a real great "barn find".

Since everybody is so unhappy with Bear Woods, maybe you all should let Steve Good know. They are one if his sponsors and he does push them. At the same time write/forward your emails/letters to Bear Woods. Nothing ever improves if they aren't aware of the problems. I've only ordered one time from them and my experience was that it took way too long to receive my order. I just figured it was because they were in Canada and I'm not. I've never re-ordered. I get excellent service from Denny Kneppan.
