  1. For those of us who have killed more than one Dewalt, and of course they always die at the worst possible time, DW = "dirty word".
  2. I am a total stranger to international trade but most of the better scroll saw blades are made in EU so I surprised your only source is in Canada.
  3. Ray, you don't want to hear this, but CA glue exposure can be dangerous. Pen turners use it a lot and there is documentation of people becoming allergic over time. Us sparingly if you do use it.
  4. If the blade is twisting, then you are turning the piece too quickly and not allowing the blade to cut through the turn. The smaller the blade the more careful you have to be. You can solve this by a combination of speeding the blade up and slowing the rate you are turning the wood. Also be careful not to ne lifting the wood off the table as you are turning it.
  5. Sounds like a clamp problem. I would replace your Dewalt clamps with these. If you or Spike can use a screwdriver you can replace them yourself. 90.301 Pegas Chuck Head Set for DeWalt & Delta | Pegas scroll saw (artcraftersonline.com) Here is a video:
  6. Let's do some basic math. I use roughly 3 sheets of balitc birch plywood a year. I would say that 1/3 to 1/2 of my baltic birch plywood is used for ornaments. I get at least 144 ornaments from a 5 x 5 sheet but often times over 200. So, using 144, at $20 a sheet , my old price, each ornament cost me 14 cents in material. I sell my cheapest ornaments for $5 each. So even if the price doubles or triples I can live with it.
  7. I know you do not have a Hawk scroll saw but they make a stand designed for wheelchairs and people who sit. Here is a link. Maybe you can design something along these lines. Scroll_Saw_Accessories (hawkwoodworkingtools.com)
  8. Yes it is virtually the same thing but the rules of supply and demand will not make it any cheaper.
  9. Seriously doubt it is coming apart short of cutting the layers apart with a band saw. Best advice is to call it a learning experience and to use it as is
  10. Yes if it the 99% pure you are good but most over the counter isopropyl is only 88% or less pure.
  11. Good point. That is why you can't use isopropyl alcohol to thin shellac.
  12. The nice thing about a MS approach is you can immediately apply your oil finish without having the MS dry. Now if you are going to us shellac or lacquer you have to wait.
  13. First step would be to check to see if all the visible screws and nuts are tight.
  14. Fastenal sells them and calls them "bent anchor bolts".
  15. Hang in there Paul.
  16. Facebook shows that he was last online about 4:00PM EST today.
  17. John if you are like me things are less noisy these days as my hearing has gone to "hell in a handbasket". If anyone finds it please return. My memory and hair may also be there.
  18. Like you I make and sell ornaments cut from BB and other woods. A couple years back I purchased a finishing sprayer from Rockler. This is the one, but I paid under $120 on sale. Rockler HVLP Finishing Sprayer | Rockler Woodworking and Hardware Anyway, I spray with a water-based poly, either satin or semi-gloss. Cleanup is quick and easy with warm water IF you clean up immediately after you are done. I do strongly recommend getting a spare spray cup so you can fill it with warm water and run it through the sprayer immediately after spraying your finish. Yes water-based does raise the grain some but on ornaments it is hardly noticeable.
  19. While I don't have a laser, I do know a few people who do, and their choice of wood is often Baltic Birch. I know several professional custom cabinet makers and BB is there wood of choice for cabinet casings. BB is also used by many woodworkers for shop jigs because of the lack of voids and the extra stability that the multiple layers provide. Bottom line it will be affecting lots of people.
  20. Posted by Charles Hand this morning: "Scroll saw friends. This is the latest (7:00 AM ET) from our friend Alex Fox in Kherson, Ukraine. "Now Russians are all over the city, all shops, pharmacies are closed, there are no civilians on the streets, no one leaves their houses. Our mayor made a statement that the administration is working, the life support of the city (gas, water, electricity, the Internet) is working. No one from the Russian military addressed him, the flag on the main square is Ukrainian. It turns out that after the fighting, the Russians drove into the city and are probably waiting for further instructions.""
  21. Yes there website can be read in English but their printed material is in German. This i the project I mad. Like I said a pattern is a pattern.
  22. If you can read German there is also this magazine. I have actually purchased an issue because patterns are patterns. FEINSCHNITTcreative | Magazine for the leaf and scroll saw (feinschnitt-kreativ.de)
  23. Kinda looks like a Wen.
  24. Olson does make a decent blade. I have never heard of the Toni scroll saw. I would contact Sue Mey. She is a very popular designer who lives in South Africa. Good luck.
