  1. Those came out great Paul! I have cut hundreds of these mini birdhouses all from various hardwoods, but never of laminated woods. I will have to try it. I thought the 1/2" hole was too big, so I drill 3/8" holes instead. I think it looks a little more proportioned.
  2. As far as copyright laws, as long as you don't sell it or the pattern, you'll be ok.
  3. Have handouts available with an outline of your presentation and a recourse list including saw manufacturers, pattern sellers, scroll saw catalogs, blade dealers, wood dealers and of course scroll saw forums like the Scroll Saw Village. When someone asks a question, reapeat the question so everyone else knows what you are answering too.
  4. Great work there DW!
  5. That is very cute! Excellent cutting and a great project!

    puzzle

Nice looking puzzle! I don't use a pattern at all. I do it all free hand.
  7. There are a lot of ways to finish wood projects and I have tried all of them over the years. This is what I have settled on. Every project I cut except jigsaw puzzles are finished this way. I use a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. The oil brings out the natural color and grain of thr wood, and the mineral spirits thins the oil allowing it to flow around the project easily. But most importantly, allows the oil to dry in 24-36 hours depending on humidity. Once the oil is dry, I top coat with a semi gloss spray lacquer. I use Deft spray lacquer in a spray can.
  8. Hey James, welcome to the village! Come on in and join the fun!
  9. Nice work Dick! Looks like you're getting the hang of it!

  11. Did you at least turn it on?
  12. Thanks for showing the coasters Dan, that puts the whole project into prospective. It looks great! I love the pallet coasters!
  13. Nice work Dan. I would love to see the pallet coasters that go with it.
  14. Thanks Randy! I already knew the answer, just thought the folks here would want to know.
  15. Hey Randy, that is pretty cool! I have a question that I know you have addressed on another site. What are the legalities of cutting up U.S. Coins?
  16. IPad? It seems I read somewhere that if you take a picture sideways or upside down on an iPad or iPhone and post it on a website, it will orient the picture the way you took it. I could be wrong.
  17. If you are talking about the DeWalt stand, don't do it! I am the scroll saw instructor at the Woodcraft store in Ventura, Ca. The store installed locking casters on the demonstration saw so it could be easily moved around the store and shop. Even with the wheels locked, the Stand wobbles and is top heavy. Also it raises the saw table to high for comfort. That may not be a problem if you are tall, but at 5' 10", it's to high for me. At my shop, the saw is permanently parked in its place. If I need to move it to clean, I can easily pull it out. P.S. The DeWalt stand has three legs, one in back and two in front, so the solution young_scroller made would be impractical.
  18. Nice work Tom! Question: did you take the pictures on your phone? And if you did, did you take the pictures upside down?

    Very nice work Bob!
  20. Wow, Monti, that is beautiful! You did a wonderful job on it!
  21. Nice work Edward! How are the Flyers doing this year?
  22. Sorry to hear that Dan. You know the old saying....been there, done that, have worn out the tee shirt.
  23. What Katie said is correct. But puzzle pieces are small and not likely to warp. The bottom line....if you are concerned, finish the back!
  24. Welcome to the Village! Come on in and join the fun!
  25. Those are some very nice toys Ron, great work! Any finish sold in North America is non toxic once cured, as long as it is designed as a finish. Products like orange oil and lemon oil are designed as cleaners and polishes and may contain toxic ingredients. If I was finishing those great toys, I would soak them in a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Wipe them off with a clean soft cloth, then let them dry for twenty four to thirty six hours. Then topcoat them with Deft semi gloss spray lacquer. Again, once fully cured, the finish will be no toxic. P.S. Happy New Year to you too!
