smallest i have are 1URgonna order up some 1/0 this week ooohh, ive made some highly figured kindling in my time. but thanks for the compliment,kevin. i wish i had your energy!!! best tip i could give on something like this is slow the blade speed way down to help control the cut.

i believe there is a way to add a finish without darkening it. im sure i read it somewhere. ill do some digging and see what i find

spend the extra. i burned through 2 craftsmans, first one started falling apart after about 30 hours. other one was given to me and started faling apart after about 20 hours.

my son retired from the army in september and asked me to make him a display case. i wanted to get a little different on this one. had the piece of walnut for the drawer fronts around for some time waiting for a project.

just gotta trim and make a frame. 1/8" bb. ive been stack cutting 4-1/8" for portraits for a bit now but think im gonna go back to 1/4"". seems more difficult and blade life is shortened, which im thinkin might be due to more plys with glue. ill never do this one again !!! until the next time!

Spiral blades - butchers tool or experts only?

they both have a place. ive thought about using A flat blade kn some of the portraits ive done, recently the tiger swallowtail butterfly, but with 500+ cuts thats 500+ times id have to turn the work 360 degrees and many of the cuts are juuuuust about 360, the back the other way, turn here, go up, turnturnturn...i find it much easier to use spirals in that situation. blade control for me seems to be combined with saw speed and the pressure i apply. but then theres other portraitwork requiring veining where a spiral is too wide. -
i have an ex 16 and it has that action. the blade pulling away just a little is enough for the dust to fall from the cut.quite often im cutting 3/4". not all teeth leave thecut on the stroke. so with the blade pulling back justa wee bit allows fresh cut dust to leave the gullets. if the gullets cant get the fresh cut dust out of the way the blades heat up, blades dull quicker,cuts can get wavy...there are a few other problems that can happen.

ive been able to get a lot done on the tiger swallowtail now. unfurtunately my back doesnt want to cooperate with my desire to get r done.

as for sharpening services, i personally found it wasnt that much more for a replacement set of blades. i have read great reviews of this place http://nationaltoolservice.com/Sharpening%20Price%20List.html probably be wise to call them and ask. the 735 is an awesome planer,one i am seriously thinking of upgrading to. two upgrades ive read that make a bigmdifference are a shelix head, which is a wee bit pricey or a set of replacement blades from infinity http://www.infinitytools.com/DeWalt-DW734-DW735-Planer-Knives/products/1649/ as for a sharpening system, i built a jig from plans i found in shopnotes magazine. i cant recall what issue it was. i found it good at freshening upthe blades,but the disposable planer blades dont really have a lot of meat on them to give a full sharpen to. have ya happened to flip the blades? if im not mistaken the 735 has double edge blades.

ive been pickin awaynat the tiger swallowtail butterfly over the last few weeks but have been having a problem with tbe blades comin loose in the clamps and blades breaking. cleanedand scuffed the clamps and looked at a few possibilities, but still had the problem. i was beginning to think tbe fd spirals might have had some flaws in a batch. welp, i had another project to kick out yesterday. using the fd spirals.different material,same problem. then....i stopped to get a pencil out of a drawer,there was my 8 by 12 carpenters square telling me," check to see if upper arm is parallel with the table." upper arm was 1/4" higher at the blade. realigned it and what a difference!!! no more blade problems. last nights project i was halfway through when i did that and the second half took half the time. think i might make some serious progress on the tiger swallowtail today. funny thing is i read about the parallel thing a while ago and completely forgot about it. oh....heres the project i was workin on

hey,sam! are you addicted to scrolling yet?LOLOL iffen ya look up top of the page here theres a tab titled "wood finder." ive gotten my ply on ebay from KC hardwoods woodworking supplies. free shipping,too, for the ply. and also ocooch hardwoods.good prices in scrollsaw ready hardwoods,too. both have been very good quality ply at a good price. seems that a good price for 1/8" bb ply is about a buck a square foot and $2 a square foot for 1/2"

FD here,too. ultra reverse and flat end spirals mainly. have tried quite a few of the varieties of FD but the penguins and settled on these. i did run into a problem with the spirals breaking real quick on me. i hadnt used them in a long time,remembered i had the problem before, and it took a little time for me to remember i had to slow the saw speed down a bit.

glad ya found the site,sam! i noticed ya have a question in another thread on blades for cutting acrylic which i (still) dont have An answer for. it would probably be wise to start a new thread asking the question as sometimes a question asked in a thread on another topic can get passed up by the members here.
