  1. Bob it took about two hours with the spirals, but about another two hours of sanding off the fuzzies on the back of the piece...lol
  2. I had bought an assortment pack of Flying Dutchman and sadly it didn't come with the 3/0 as I have read a lot of people like them. I used a #3 for most of this and a #5 for the larger areas in the hat. Honestly this was only my second time using spirals, the first attempt is in a pile of decrotive firewood...lol. While I find them fun to use I'm definately more comfortable with flat blades. I do plan to keep trying to get better with the spirals though since they work great with the portrait style patterns. I'm gonna have to order me some of those 3/0s though. Thanks again everyone for the kind words! Josh
  3. Decided I wanted to cut something fun tonight and try out the spiral blades I picked up recently. The pattern is from the pattern library here at the village and is by Sue Walker/Shadylady0447. I had a great time cutting it and by the end I was starting to feel half way comfortable with the spirals. The blue background is just something I laid it on to make the detail stand out.
  4. That is one nice looking stand. I'm planning on building one this weekend and have been scouring the internet for ideas. I really like how sturdy this one looks, I might just have to build one similar. One thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out a good height for it. As it is right now my saw sits too high and I have to stand to work. May I ask the height of your stand? thanks, Josh
  5. I like this, been thinking of trying tilting my saw. Gonna build a stand this weekend and might incorperate something like this into it. Thanks!
  6. Thanks! It is the Delta 40-694. So far I love it, I've only had it for four days now, but it cuts like a dream compared to my old Ryobi saw.
  7. Wow great job! I never thought to try anything like this, but seeing that I might just have to try it out. It would be something nice for my Grandson when he's a bit older. Thanks for sharing it with us. Josh
  8. You have every right to brag about that piece, it looks great! They are going to love it.
  9. Very nice work!
  10. Wow I love it! Great job!
  11. Very nice! It turned out great!
  12. I'll have to give these a try as I sometimes get frustrated trying to feed the blade through. Thanks, Josh.
  13. Ocala, FL. Which is about an hour North of Orlando.
  14. Thanks for all the kind words. I had a great time cutting them, the new saw works like a dream. Just to note the Fan is a Sue Mey pattern, the Masks and the Welcome sign are Sheila Landry pattern's. The fan and masks are cut in Baltic Birch plywood and the welcome sign is poplar. There are four more masks still to cut as the pattern comes with six masks. They are a gift for my wife who barely flinched when I told her I was spending a small fortune for a new saw. Josh
  15. New saw arrived Saturday and I've been quite busy breaking it in.
  16. Very nice! I too think I like the torched one better, but they both look great!
  17. Simply Awesome!
  18. Made the mistake of showing this one to my Wife. She loves it and wants to know why I haven't made her something with cute pigs on it yet...lol. Great job Andrew, they look great!
  19. Welcome Brian! That is some very impressive work. I too look forward to seeing more. Josh
  20. Welcome David! I'm new to this hobby as well and I have to say this group has been great at helping me out and answering all my many questions. I will say I know what you mean about not having a blower. I had been using an old Ryobi that the blower tube had dry rotted off and so I would have to sit there blowing the dust away as I cut. I ended up getting a $10 fish tank air pump and rigged up a homeade blower that worked quite well. Josh
  21. I don't know anything about that saw, but I just looked it up on Amazon and it says it will ship in 1 - 4 months. Not sure if that's right or not, but thought I'd point it out in case.
  22. I do, but they don't sell them in the stores and the earliest they can ship it to me is next Friday. It's simply a case of I've already gone two weeks without a saw and just don't think I have the patience for another week without...lol I appreciate everyone's advice and I think you all have helped me make up my mind. Once again this forum comes through for me, Ya'll are the best! Thanks, Josh
  23. Ok so for the past few weeks I've been saving my pennies to buy my new saw. I had decided to go with the Dewalt 788 and was going to purchase from Amazon. Low and behold when I look on Amazon tonight they are out of stock on them and when I called and asked they couldn't tell me when they would have them back in stock. I really wanted to order from them because as a Prime member I can get the saw with free 2 day shipping. So I have to make a decision on whether to wait it out till they get some in stock or to go with my back up plan and get the Delta 40-694 instead. I've read a lot of good things about the Delta, but have also read that parts are hard to come by. Just hoping to get some opinions before I make my decision. Thanks, Josh
  24. Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I've got some idea now on what I was doing wrong as well as some great ideas for what I can try in the future. Once again I appreciate how helpful everyone here is, not to mention patient and understanding with us newbies!
  25. I'm ordering mine tomorrow and will be sure to check this as soon as it arrives. Thanks!
