  1. This post was a disaster. I posted three pics and attached them to the text, using my desktop pc. Somehow, they never got attached, even tho I checked it twice on my pc. Oh well. Everyone just ignore these Tiki posts. maybe I'll try again sometime.
  2. Sorry I posted this twice by mistake. I wasn't able to delete one.
  3. My son likes tiki art and asked me to make him a scroll saw pic. He sent a pic which I could not use. So I went online, got my own tiki pic, then I put his family into the picture for him. This is the final cut piece.

  5. P.S. This plywood really ate up my saw blades fast!
  6. I need help from all you experts out there. I bought a sheet of Baltic Birch ply from my local WoodCraft store (expensive!), and I cut a nice wedding portrait for my niece. All went well, but when I stained it, it took on the stain very unevenly (is that a new word?). I hate to throw the sheet away, but I'm sure not going to use it again with this result. The cutting took me several hours, then I ruined it in less than five minutes with the stain. So I have some questions for you: 1. Can this be fixed? 2. Where do you get good quality plywood for your projects? 3. This sheet has a very rough surface. I had to sand it A LOT. Is there any possible use for this sheet, other than (s)crap?
  7. Wow...thank you all for the great help. I'll try combinations of all your advice and see what works out best for me. I love this group....so happy I found it.
  8. Nice. Looks perfect.
  9. Thanks, Larry. What do you use to apply your patterns?
  10. I used some 1/4" plywood for a recent portrait project. When I removed the "green frog" tape after finishing the scroll saw cutting, some of the smallest cut areas of the veneer chipped off. I only bought the best available plywood from my local Lowe's store. I'm sure there must be better quality plywood, but I don't know where to buy it. or should I use a different technique to apply my pattern?
  11. What do you use for a chuck for the very small drill bits? I have some small bits, but my Dremel won't hold them.
  12. OK...I'll take your good comments and give it some more tries....but not for a while. I need a successful outcome on my next few projects just to get me back in the groove. This one was very frustrating. I think the paper used to print the photo was junk. Also, using ModPodge was the wrong choice. Oh well....live and learn.
  13. The new attempt was a total failure. Paper layers separated again. Not gonna try this again. I'll stick to serious scrolling. I thought I could make a cute, quick toy for my grandson, and it turned into a complete nightmare. Never again!
  14. Thanks everyone. I'm off to try your suggestions. I'll let you know how it goes.
  15. I would do that, Dan, but I am cutting letters and I have to get the size and spacing just right.
  16. Thanks, MrsN. Both recommendations make perfect sense. I'll try them both today.
  17. I need help with a scrolling project that I tried for the first time. I came up with this idea myself, but I'm sure it has been done before with much better success than I had. I tried to make a "jigsaw puzzle" for my grandson using a photograph of his family. Using the decoupage method, I printed the photo on a laser printer, then glued it to a 1/2" thick plywood sheet using ModPodge for glue. Then I covered the photo surface with two coats of the ModPodge. I covered the entire surface with Frog Tape, then glued my puzzle pattern on and began cutting. When I tried to remove the pattern and Frog Tape, it pulled the photograph paper layers apart and ruined the project. So...does anyone know a better way to attach and protect the photo on the backing wood so that it won't separate?
  18. This is a beautiful story on so many levels. What a wonderful way to start my day...reading about this. Thank you so much for sharing.
  19. I'm just learning to create my own patterns and cut them. It's very satisfying to see a photo become immortalized in wood.
  20. I'm close by in Folsom, CA...just east of Sacramento.
  21. Thanks to all of you for the kind welcome. I really enjoy everything about this site, and I have already learned much from the forums.
  22. Hi All. I'm Kris, and I've been doing scroll saw art work for many years. Started out doing intarsia, but recently I'm doing all portraits and pictures. I have done a few family members portraits and a few famous people. Currently working on Joe Montana. I'm looking forward to exploring all that this group has to offer. It looks like a great site.
  23. Hi Brian. That's great work. I just joined, too
