Thanks for the warning. I don't intend to profit from this without permission from the artist. I have attempted to contact her, just to let her know that I appreciate her work so much, and share my cutting with her. So far, no reply.
I finished cutting this scroll saw landscape this morning. It is from a painting I found on Google Images. The name of the artist who painted the original is Mary Pettis.
Thank you all for the great, encouraging comments. The silhouette itself was VERY easy to cut. The frame is what took time, but really not too much. I had fun making this one.
I need some expert help. I am trying to cut come very finely detailed portraits using two stacked sheets of 1/8" ply. The tiny drill bit that I use will only penetrate one layer of the wood. I have not been able to find any drill bits and the reduced-size chuck to hold them. Do any of you know how to solve this? Where to get the needed tools?
I finished cutting the Jerry Rice portrait today. This might be my favorite so far. I'm really pleased with the intensity of his facial expression. Just the way he played.
I recommend doing a "virtual" trial using a digital photo and a photo manipulation program. You can add some torching effect to the photo and see how it looks before you make the commitment on your project. I do this sometimes when I'm not sure about cutting out an area on my projects.
Got this one nearly done. The greatest NFL receiver of all time. What a thrill it was to watch him. I made the pattern using GIMP2 and a photo I got from the internet.
Your work is beautiful. I think it is wonderful that you learned from your grandfather. I would love to pass along some skills to my own grandson someday.
