Thank you all for your comments.Your input is what keeps me striving to create. I searched a lot to find a photo that captured the greatness of Johnny Cash. This photo was, by far, the best. However, it became very problematic that the background was all black. I spent a lot of time doing trial-and-error pattern development before I got this one just the way I wanted it.
Kevin, as a kid, I spent time in a town with a saw mill. Old locomotives brought harvested pines into the mill throughout the day and night, and I loved to watch them come and go. I also got to ride on a passenger train over the Sierras from Sacramento to Reno a few times. It was pulled by an engine like the one in this picture.
I made the pattern for this from a painting by Stephen Jorgensen that I found online. I cut out two of the paddlers to simplify the design and improve the look of the cutting.
