Randy, Very nice. I've cut some stamp puzzles but not coins. What kind of blade do you use? And what kind of drills for piercing the coin? Also, do you have to take any special precautions re dust control when cutting metal? Thanks, bb

Carter Johnson is famous for his stamp puzzles! He had an article published years ago in SSWC. Shawn Ferguson is also a master puzzler and does a dynamite 3-d Christmas card puzzle. He also had an article published in SSWC. Carter posts regularly on the Fox chat site. Shawn has been missing for awhile - seems he expanded his medical practice and doesn't have much time for puzzles lately. Shawn also has given demos at the Fox outdoor event and in Boston at a puzzle show. Both gentlemen are highly talented.

Interesting background. I remember one year I did the show it was 100F and I suddenly couldn't think straight to make change for customers. Wound up wearing an ice water drenched facecloth on my head and started drinking more water. Close call. Next year I ordered electricity and took one of those swivel floor fans. If they move it to a park then there is a high probability that artists would have to dolly their stuff in to the booth.

Here is my take on the show: The Woodworking show keeps getting smaller and smaller every year. Picked up a couple pieces of exotic wood for my puzzles plus some clamps and glue brushes. Might go back again in a couple years. Show was at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta. Signage was nonexistent. Saw some folks outside a building and asked if we were in the right place. Bingo. parking was awful. When we left at 12:30 folks were circling the parking lot looking for a space. Talked with Steve Good about the new Seyco srollsaw which he was demonstrating. Nice guy. Hard to keep up a conversation with him as folks came by and wanted their picture taken with him. I liked the new Seyco saw and offered to buy the one he had there. No dice. He said they might be available next month; awaiting the boat from Taiwan. Not taking orders either. He didn't know if Woodcraft or Rockler would carry the saw. maybe in time. Said he thought there would be a 2 yr warranty. I asked him about price and he said under a grand. I then said why should I buy the Seyco saw vs the DeWalt at much less $$.. He said durability! If you need a production scrollsaw (like I do) then he said the Seyco would hold up better. When my current DeWalt craps out I will definitely consider the new Seyco saw. I like it better than the new Jet saw. Blade changing is better on the Seyco saw. Traffic wasn't bad at all. Location was at I-285/I-75/Cobb parkway. near the new Braves stadium. The I-85 bridge disaster was not a factor. bb

Iggy, Hope you get into the Lazy Daze August show. We did it for a about 4 years when it was downtown on the streets. Sales got progressively worse every year. Folks told us that there were more competing events every year and that's why sales went down. The show used to attract much bigger crowds. Maybe that's why they went to two days instead of one. bb

I forgot to add this re the I-85 bridge disaster in Atlanta on Friday. If anyone has been following the I-85 bridge disaster in Atlanta then you know I-85 is shut down completely in Atlanta - both north bound and south bound lanes. Some homeless person set fire to a chair on top of a shopping cart to smoke crack. The fire spread to PVC pipe nearby and the fire was so intense that it weakened the steel and concrete on the I-85 bridge and the northbound section collapsed completely while the southbound part was seriously damaged. GA State patrol did an excellent job in keeping folks off the bridge before collapse. Now the GA DOT is covering their ass by saying there were "non-combustible" materials stored under the bridge that caught fire. Can you believe that? And our wonderful local media just prints what they say without question. The GA DOT needs to take some remedial middle school science classes! Unbelievable. Everyone I know is laughing at the GA DOT for such a ridiculous statement. Remember what Mark Twain said: if you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed; If you read the newspaper, you are misinformed. How true today re the media.

Still waiting! I don't understand the USPS delivery system. Ralph got his issue a week ago; I haven't received mine! We both get our mail routed through the USPS facility on Boggs Rd in Gwinnett County, GA. Does that mean my local post office in Jasper, GA is holding the magazine until they feel like sending it on? I like to think the publisher sends all copies to a given area in bulk to save $$. Then it is up to the USPS to deliver. bb

Can you come back on Sunday too Saturdays are always hectic at the show. Bridge collapse on I-85 should not impact you too much until you approach I-75/285 where the Cobb galleria is located. Check out the Gwinnett Woodworkers display. I'm told a new Seyco scrollsaw will be there to view. bb

My shop is in a big room in the basement. Basement has s separate HVAC system. No cold air return in shop. All tools connected to an Oneida Air System with a cartridge filter. Also have an overhead Jet dust collector unit which I only use when I do a lot of sawing on the table saw. Dust control is very effective except for the table saw.

I can't believe you would write such a thing on a public board. Invitation for the tax man to pay a visit ! Well I do pay taxes on the tax money I collect at shows! When I collect taxes on a sale I will definitely report it and pay the tax! There is no statue of limitations on tax fraud! Last show I had a lady pay in cash and didn't want to pay sales tax because she was paying in cash. I told her I had to collect the sales tax according to the law and pay it PLUS I had to buy a business license to boot. She still purchased from me. She was an anomaly. I price my puzzles such that I can't absorb the tax. bb bb

I've been doing a great show in an unnamed city for 4 years now. Some artists don't get invited back despite having nice work. Other artists have been doing the show for 15 years! The show includes state, county, and city tax forms and tax is due several weeks after the show by mailing directly to the state and to the county/city. I know some artists fudge their sales for tax purposes. Some artists who don't have a "good" year don't get invited back the next year. I inquired about the jury process and was told each year there is a different jury and they come from all parts of the country. I think there is more to the jury process and selection. Sure, I think the jury ranks the applicants and then submits the results to the show sponsor. Then I think there are other many other factors which decide acceptance. I am convinced that the show sponsor looks at reported sales via the tax forms submitted. And if reported sales don't meet a minimum value for returning applicants then I think they don't get invited back. Just a theory. Comments welcome.

I hope there are a boatload of puzzles in the new issue! I took the Nosy Dragon puzzle that was in the last issue to my first craft show of the year and it was a hit! Sold all I took. But I did relabel it to "Watchful Dragon". bb

The Buffalo pattern appeared in the Fox Publishing "Animals" book by Judy Peterson. It just would not sell at shows until I added a plastic eyeball and a genuine Buffalo nickel. Bingo!
